On Tuesday April 4th at 7pm the Board of Finance will
host its public hearing on the budget This public
hearing will take place in the cafeteria of Griswold
Middle School Please feel free to attend Keep in mind
that you can access all Griswold Board of Education
budget materials on our homepage and if you have any
questions feel free to call our offices
We want to remind all students parents and
community members that Friday April 7th is an early
dismissal day for students educators will have
professional development for the rest of the day There
is no school the week of April 10th as that is our April

The students have reached the goal of 300000 total pages read The total number of pages read was 544482 (what an amazing total for the 4th Annual Gris-WALDO Reading Challenge Consider the following reading statistics middot Student A reads 20 minutes per day = 3600 minutes per school year = 1800000 words per year middot Student B reads 5 minutes per day = 900 minutes per school year = 282000 words per year middot Student C reads 1 minute per day = 180 minutes per school year = 8000 words per year
Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) testing begins on Tuesday April 18th for grades 3 and 4 If you have any questions about the assessment please contact the school
Please note that we have had 3 school cancellation days due to inclement weather Our last day of school is Friday June 16th Dismissal for the last day of school is 110 pm

As we complete our third quarter and begin our final quarter of this school year we are excited about new lessons a new athletic season music concerts and warmer weather Eighth graders have switched to their final exploratory rotation and track season has begun The end of March brought us mild temps and a fabulous concert performed by our fifth grade band orchestra and chorus students Bravo to our grade 5 music students
Grades 5- 8 will begin the Smarter Balanced Assessments April 3rd and extend through the end of April We are asking parents to please avoid scheduling appointments on the days that your child is testing In addition we canrsquot stress enough the importance of students being well rested well-nourished and afforded some down time with family and friends during this window of time For more details (including the testing calendar) please be sure to refer to the GMS spring newsletter

will work to get report cards finalized before spring

On April 4th we will also welcome professionals for our
Mock Interviews Those students in Financial and
Professional Management will participate in this
important process in preparation for future job success
The SAT School Day for our 11th graders will be
Wednesday April 5th We will also be celebrating our
Freshman Laws of Life Essay winners that morning GHS will debut a Career Day on Thursday April 6th
We have employees representing many professions
coming into our school to speak with our students about
their experiences Our FBLA students will be escorting
our special guests around the building We are very
much looking forward to this exciting day
GHS proudly presents The Little Mermaid--this amazing
show will run from April 19-22 Many of the shows
have already sold out so get your tickets now

This timely program features EIGHT (8) INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS FROM JANUARY TO
APRIL (see schedule below) each lasting 2 12 hours Participants will engage in dialogue self-
discovery and activities in order to develop anti-racism leadership and advocacy skills that will
benefit the entire community
THE SUCCESS OF THIS PROGRAM begins with the support of the entire collaborative and so
it is vital to secure your participation and commitment This is challenging yet rewarding work
Simply put racial reconciliation is the unfinished agenda of this nation

Equity and Social Justice Subcommittee
Families and Community First Griswold (FCFG) will participate in a series of
trainings called SANKOFA which incorporates the historical context of race and poverty in
order to build a better future for those adversely impacted by these inequalities
This timely program features EIGHT (8) INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS FROM JANUARY TO
APRIL (see schedule below) each lasting 2 12 hours Participants will engage in dialogue self-
discovery and activities in order to develop anti-racism leadership and advocacy skills that will
benefit the entire community
THE SUCCESS OF THIS PROGRAM begins with the support of the entire collaborative and so
it is vital to secure your participation and commitment This is challenging yet rewarding work
Simply put racial reconciliation is the unfinished agenda of this nation
We also are seeking members of the community to lend their voices to this dialogue To
participate in the sessions an individual must first become part of the social justice and equity

ldquoGriswold Readsrdquo is a newly established book discussion partnership between the Griswold Public Schools and The Slater
Library During the school year we will host a book discussion series on select mass-market titles that explore relevant
topics pertaining to public education while casting a wide net on reader interest The book discussions will be held at the
Slater Library and the library will have a few copies of each title for circulation Griswold Public Schools educators will
partake and lead the discussions which will be an hour long and are open to the public The book discussions begin promptly
at 530pm We hope you can join us
