TASK: Negotiate a grenade assault course.

CONDITIONS: During daylight hours, given a M4, ACH with eye pro, FLC, knee and elbow pads (optional), 6 hand grenades, and 4 simulated targets.

STANDARDS: Each competitor must throw a grenade at each target from a pre-designated point, so that it explodes within 5 meters of a target in the open, within an enclosure, or a fighting position. Competitors will move behind a covered position once the grenade has been thrown. Each target must be hit prior to moving to the next position. On the command “go” the competitor will engage each target in the sequence order stated: First, 35m throw “troops in the open,” second, 20m throw “trench,” third, “engage the bunker,” and fourth, 15m, 20m, and/or 25m throw “open window” depending on how many grenades you have left. Overall combined target hits and time will determine the score.

The start point and firing points will be identified to you in the testing area. Competitors will stay in the holding area until they are escorted to the testing lanes by a scorer. While in the holding area, the competitors will be given their grenades and fuses to inspect and prepare for firing.

The teams will be escorted to the start line by the scorer. Each competitor will be shown his firing points and targets. On the command “go” the competitor will begin to engage each target in the sequence order stated. First, 35m throw “troops in the open,” second, 20m throw “trench,” third, “engage the bunker,” and fourth, 15m throw “open window.” The competitors will high crawl to the second position keeping knees and elbows on the ground at all times. From the second to third target, they will 3-5 second rush getting down at least once and executing a combat roll for the second half of the rush. From the third position to the last position they will rush to the wall.

The competitor cannot move to the next firing point until the last grenade thrown has detonated. Upon detonation, you will be informed “killed” or “not killed.” Then you will either move to next position or throw another grenade until the target is killed. You will then immediately move to the next firing point and engage your next target. You will throw from the kneeling position for the 35m troops in the open and for the trench firing positions. At the bunker, you will be in the prone position on the side of the bunker so as not to expose yourself to the openings. At the window position, you will throw from the standing position, and engage one of the three windows, you can engage each target dependent upon how many grenades you have left at that target; each window you successfully engage will be worth 1pt for 15m, 2 pts for 20m and 3 pts for the 25m. Your time will stop once your last grenade has exploded. Your team score will be based on number of kills and the combined time it took to engage each target. If the grenade does not detonate in the designated kill zone, that target will not be classified as a kill. If a competitor is still exposed when a grenade explodes, that grenade will not be counted as a kill. If a competitor fails to use the correct movement technique the next grenade thrown will not be counted, it will be considered a “not killed”.

The weight of this event is 2.

This event is scored by combining total kills and total time for both competitors. The first competitor to start the event will attempt to kill all targets. Once that competitor has thrown his last grenade and it explodes, or when the last target is killed, the time will be stopped. That same stopwatch will then be used to start and stop the time for his partner. If for some reason a competitor throws a grenade and it fails to explode, and he was observed removing both safeties, it will be considered a kill if the grenade is in the kill zone. Each competitor will be observed by a grader and the OIC/NCOIC while he prepares his grenades. There will also be a grader down range observing the grenades, and he will provide confirmation of a kill or no kill. This grader will also verify that both safeties were removed from the grenade.

Teams will be ranked from the highest number of kills to the lowest, and then they will be ranked by the fastest to slowest times.

In the event of a tie, the points awarded for both teams will be added together and divided by two, each team receives the same amount of points.

What are your questions at this time?
