GREGORY ELIASGregory Elias and Global
Wine Consumption
Financial professional and Chairman of the United Group, Gregory
Elias, enjoys a good glass of wine.
Having lived in Curacao and the Netherlands, Elias has been exposed
to many different wine brands and varieties throughout his life.
Red wine happens to be one of his favorite choices, and he is surely
not alone in his appreciation for the darker wine variety.
When most people think about red wine, they instinctively picture
the famous places where red wine grapes are grown such as France,
Italy, and California.
Even though these locations may be the top producers of red wine,
they do not contain the top drinkers. In the entire world, China
drinks more red wine than any other country.
France is known to drink more red wine per capita, or per person, but
their numbers are small compared to the millions of liters consumed
each year in China.
Many believe that red wine has grown in popularity in this area of Asia
because the beverage offers health benefits and because it is red.
As red is considered to be a lucky color in China, it is the beverage of
choice when toasting a new venture, for example.
Of all of the countries and various places around the world, there is
one small location that drinks more red wine per person than
anywhere else, and that is the Vatican.
On average, each person in the Vatican drinks ninety-nine bottles of
red wine per year.
Throughout the years Gregory Elias learned many other interesting
facts about the fruit of the vine.
