www.yourlibrary.ws Greenville Public Library March 2015 Newsletter February 3, 2015 The Board of Trustees of the Greenville Public Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Doro- thy Swain as the new Director of Library Services. After a national search of candidates, the board chose Ms. Swain as its Director. She was the Assistant Director from 2001 and had worked closely with her pre- decessor, Christopher LaRoux, who left to take a posi- tion in another community. She has been employed with the Library since 1988. She received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Library Science degrees from the University of Rhode Island. The Board looks forward to her leading the pro- fessional Library staff and the continuance of excellent service to the Library’s patrons. We are confident that with her experience and knowledge of the community and its leaders, that she will further the educational and cultural programs of the Library. She was awarded “Ambassador of the Year” in 2014 by the North Central Chamber of Commerce and was recently elected its president. She is also a member of the Rhode Island Library Association. Family program – March 7, 2015. Learn an Irish jig at 3:30 pm. At 4:00 pm en- joy lively Irish tunes and songs and, as always, laugh along with the blarney. Mary, Phil, & Dan will be joined by Kather- ine from the Blackstone River Theatre Tir Na Ng Group on fiddle and Irish dancing. Phil Edmonds, a native of Killaloe, Country Clare, Ireland, learned to play the tin whistle in a place where he says: “The backyard was the fields.” Mary King's parents are from Ireland and she was raised in that culture, taking Irish step dance lessons by age 4 and lis- tening to her mother sing the songs of Donegal, where she was born. St. Patricks’s Day Fun @ the Library

Come to the library on Tuesday 3/17/15 at 4:00 to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with stories, songs, related crafts and refreshments. This lively program is for children ages 6-10 and their parent/caregiver. Please register for this program at the children’s desk or by calling 949-3630 x2.

Bedtime Story TimeChildren ages 3-6 are invited to join us for a special eve-ning story time at the library! Children will hear stories and songs and make a fun craft! This story time will take place on Wednesday, March 18th at 6:30 PM. Registration, which begins March 1st, may be done at the children’s desk or by phone at 949-3630 ext 2.Children may wear their pajamas.

Read Across America Monday March 2nd

“You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child." Celebrate the birthday of beloved author Dr.Seuss by dropping by the children’s room and checking out a book or two written by this beloved children’s author! See you soon in the children’s room!

PAWS to READDoes your child need practice in reading skills? Here’s an opportunity to practice this winter with a therapy dog who LOVES to listen to stories! Children ages 6-11 may sign up for one 20 minute session per week. The next session is on Monday March 9th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Please register for this program in person or by calling the children’s room at 949-3630 x2.

Share – A – Story Book Discussion

Group The book discussion group for 4th and 5th graders and their parent /caregiver will meet on Wednesday March 11th @ 4:00. Each month we meet to discuss a book we have read that is cho-sen by the children’s librarian. Come join in the fun! Please call 949-3630 x2 for more information.

with Miss AdeleArtist and teacher Adele Karbowski will continue with the monthly art class-es on Thursday March 12th at 4:00 pm. Children ages 6-10 may register, beginning March 1st.

Baker AfterSchool Center Need a place to go any afternoon after

school? Everyone between the ages of 11-17 or in grades 6-12 is welcome. The hours

are from 2:00-5:30 on Monday-Thursday and

2:00-5:00 on Friday. It is located in the Baker Room which is on the lower level of the library. There you will find computers, tables to use for homework or group projects and a librarian to assist you. No sign up is needed! Check our Facebook page for updates on special craft projects, snacks or gaming days. Scheduled this month in the Baker Room between 3:00-5:00---
