It is located in our beautiful courtyard, which opens into the school and is located near our Full Day Kindergarten classrooms. Throughout the year, FDK to Grade 5 students access the sensory garden, plant and participate in learning centres related to Eco Literacy, Math Literacy and Art. In the colder months students help transform it into a "Winter Wonderland". It is a space we treasure and enjoy. Learning Together at Greenland. Greenland is a small, neighbourhood school with a true community feeling. Our goal is to create a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment where all students pursue excellence through balanced and challenging programs. Greenland is a multicultural school that reflects the diversity of Toronto. We have two on-site childcare facilities: Playhouse Daycare and GRASP Before and After School Program. The staff and parents/guardians at our school value education and share a strong commitment to providing a caring and respectful atmosphere. We offer a variety of extra-curricular activities including sports teams, the Ambassadors' Program, Chess and Art Clubs and K-Kids. Greenland is a great place for learning and growing together! A Brief History of Greenland Greenland Public School is located south of Lawrence Ave. and east of Don Mills Rd. It was opened in 1956 as part of Don Mills, the first planned community in Toronto. Greenland's roots can be traced to early pioneers who settled in this area. A building bee was organized to build the first Don School a mile north of Lawrence Ave., on Don Mills Rd. in 1837. The second and third schools were built on the northeast corner of Don Mills and Lawrence. As more families moved into the area more schools were needed. Greenland School was organized in September 1955.

GREENLAND CARESGreenland students are committed to giving back to theircommunity.  Every year they raise money for a number of worthycauses, including the Terry Fox Run, Jump Rope for Heart.We also care about the environment. As a certified Eco School andsupported by our Eco Club, students are committed to reducingwaste and conserving energy.

Student Council and Giving Back to the CommunityOur active Student Council provides many opportunities within theschool for student leadership and voice. At our school we enjoyparticipating in Spirit Days, Pizza Days and Bake Sales. We lookforward to giving back to the community by participating in initiativessuch as Bags2Schools, Toy Drives and Food Drives.

SCHOOL COUNCIL - Supporting Student SuccessOur School Council has an enthusiastic, committed executive andactive parent members. It provides advice and the parentperspective to the school principal.Members bring our community together by organizing fundraisingevents, such as Craft Night, The Talent Show and Pizza Lunches.Proceeds buy resources and fund events to enrich the schoolexperience for students.

BEING THE BEST THAT WE CAN BEGreenland is committed to helping students become the best theycan be by enhancing character development and modelling mutuallyrespectful relationships. Leadership opportunities help our studentslearn the importance of being responsible and we celebrate theiracademic growth, achievement and positive behaviour andattitudes, in our monthly assemblies.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Students at Greenland are engaged in learning all day,every day. Our teachers help make the curriculum comealive. Students also learn from a variety of visiting expertssuch as scientists, authors and performing artists. Theyhave enjoyed hands-on science with Scientists in Schoolsand watching Prologues. There are opportunities for studentleadership through Student Council, the Eco-Club, includingOffice Helpers and Student Announcers.  OurJunior students also provide support to younger studentsthrough Reading Buddies and as Full Day KindergartenLunchroom Helpers.Excursions to the Don Mills Public Library, ROM, RoyThomson Hall, Forest Valley Outdoor Education Centre andthe Toronto Zoo, provide students with the opportunity toenhance their understanding of the curriculum material.

Parent and Community Engagement

Through phone calls, student agenda, newsletters, conferencesetc., teachers and parents/guardians discuss and share currenthappenings in the classroom. Our doors are always open to discuss curriculum and student progress. We believe that a solidhome/school partnership enhances student learning and growth.At Greenland, parents/guardians, community volunteerscollaboratively with our staff to support student learning. Whether itis reading with a grade one student, shelving library books, servingpizza at Pizza Lunches, or escorting students on a trip to theToronto Zoo, we value all our volunteers. Members of the Greenlandcommunity are always willing to lend a hand. They help makeGreenland a special place in which to learn.
