Using our prior knowledge we came up with a list of variables needed for plants to grow successfully. We have been running an experiment since then to see which plants will grow better. Some of our little rocket seedlings have been sprouting well, while others have not been so lucky. So far, it appears that the plants with access to sunlight, air and water are growing much better than the ones kept in a dark space, unwatered and sealed off from oxygen. Ms Grace Stuart.

Last week 5/6R began to look at a unit of work on what plants need to grow.

Netball success. Our netball team did us proud in Sydney last week when they competed in the PSSA Finals. The draw went against us as our first game was against Orange City Primary School, the eventual winners. We started the game strongly losing the first quarter 8-5. Orange skipped away in the second and third quarters but we won the fourth quarter 8-6. We then played Turrey Park Primary School and beat them for the third position. Narrallen Public School played Orange Public School and were soundly beaten. Orange Public School had beaten all rivels by 50 goals plus until they met the Westies so our team can hold their heads up high. A big thank you to Leanne Collison who over the years has put in the hours to build netball to what it is today. Also it would not have happened if the team Taylah P, Ciara C, Leonae H, Nevaeh J, Melaya H, Breyalee T, Alyssa R and Xavier C were not so good at what they do.Congrats to all and with the girls coming on from Year 4 bring it on for 2020.Mr Gary Hughes. Sports Organiser.

P&C Meeting new time!!!Tuesday 12 November 2019

12:30pm. Child minding available.

Colour Fun Run forms were handed out on Monday.

We may be able to let the kids out for a play today. The smoke has cleared considerably and the playground is safe to enjoy. On days where the smoke is too thick be assured that we will keep the kids inside air conditioned rooms.Let’s all hope that the state gets some significant rain soon so that we see an end to these terrible fires. Our value this week is PATIENCE. We have given two weeks to this value as being patient is a strength that can see students grow in so many ways. Our PBL lesson is snakes. This is timely as a couple of brown snakes have been spotted around the bushes in the school. Please talk to your kids about snakes and the importance of letting adults know as soon as possible. Students are being told never to go near the snakes as they are very fast and even baby browns are deadly. It is great to be able to walk in all our classes and see the students so engaged. They are using technology to research and learn. This is very important as future jobs will require workers to be very capable with these electronic devices. The more our kids understand how and when to use them, the better chance they have in obtaining a great job.Our Future Dreaming day was HUGE last week. Thanks so much to everyone who contributed. The small schools who attended were so happy with the day, as were our kids. Thanks to Mrs Horne for organising the day and thanks to Mr Campbell who started this program almost a decade ago.As I mentioned earlier in the term, I will be retiring at the end of the year. The process of selecting a new principal has been completed and I can tell you that, pending the 10 day appeal process time, Mrs Lesley Mills will be the new Casino West Principal. Mrs Mills was relieving principal term 2 2019 and has been the principal at Tabulam Public School for many years. I would like to personally congratulate her on this appointment and wish her all the best.Casino West has been a very important part of my life and I will miss the kids and the community so much. I have enjoyed all my years with the Education Department but the last thirteen at this school have been very special to me.Hope to see you all at the school festivities which will be upon us over the next few weeks. With regardsMr Michael Taylor, Principal.

This week we are focusing on eating food in lunch and recess times. We will be focusing on eating food in our break times. Students will learn the importance of not eating in class.Mrs Tami Chadderton, Stage 3 Assistant Principal.

Our value this week is PATIENCE• Having patience means you can remain calm, even

when you’ve been waiting for a long time or trying to teach someone how to do something and they just don’t get it.

• It is wonderful to see our students waiting while someone is speaking and not interrupting.

It is a joy to watch our students carefully explaining the rules to a game in different ways so their friends understand. • We all love witnessing everyone lining up at the canteen

calmly and patiently.

Patience is important in overcoming frustration. It allows us time to think and make good choices. Patience creates confidence, decisiveness, and a thoughtful outlook on life.

~ Patience leads to wisdom and success ~
