The Royal Thai Government approved the green public procurement plan to be implemented on Jan. 22nd , 2008.
The first phase of the plan (2008 – 2011) was focused only on the central departments.
The 11th NESDP and the EQMP 2012-2016 has integrated the GPP into the sustainable consumption and production plan as GPP is one of the success indicators.

For green procurement, the price does not have to be the lowest one.
For green procurement, the green products and services have to be approved by the green procurement committee.
For green procurement, there must be at least 3 producers of the green products or services.

There are 42 green product categories/criteria and another 8 categories under study in 2009.
There are 191 product-models awarded the green label under 18 product categories.

Objective :To initiate Green Public
Procurement Implementation among the central Government Agencies
Objective :To reinforce Green Public Procurement Implementation among Government Agencies, including the provincial administration.
To expand number of green products and services in the market by encouraging manufacture and service provider to change vision and manufacturing process to greener products and services.
To promote social vision and public market towards sustainable consumption.
• Green labeling to products is a scheme undertaken by Thailand Environment Institute (TEI)
• Initiated by the Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development (TBCSD) in 1993
• Formally launched in August 1994 by collaboration of TEI and the Thailand Industrial Standards Institute (TISI),Ministry of Industry
• In consultation with the Federal Environmental Agency of Germany for setting up the label
GIZ (2012-13) provided assistance to develop a national sustainable production and consumption plan. Green procurement is one of the indicators.
GIZ presently provides assistance to develop green labeling criteria for 6 products.
Thai green labeling scheme has a member of GEN (Global Eco-labeling Network) since 2001.
Thai green labeling scheme has mutual agreement with Taiwan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand on acceptance of standard laboratory test results.
Common Core Criteria with 3 countries in Asia (South Korea, Japan and Taiwan).
Conducted ʻOn-Site Assessmentʼ under the MRA with Australia and Taiwan.

At present, there are only 2 big companies are implementing the green procurement, namely PTT Group and SCG Group.
SCG has their own procurement regulations. PTT Group has followed the government
procurement, and begin to make their own list of green products and services.
TEI has targeted to promote the green procurement among TBCSDʼs members and those active companies in the Thai Stock Market.
