Lastyear, the United States added 5,244 megawatts of wind power —more than 25% of the world total. The U.S. installed base of windpower grew 45% in 34 states, accounting for more than 1% ofthe nation’s electricity supply and powering more than 4.5 millionhomes. The United States is on pace to surpass Germany as havingthe largest installed base of wind power by the end of 2009.

The renewable energy sector had record IPOs in 2007, with overall investments in clean technology increasing by 35% to $117 billion.
