DESCRIPTION

This is our assignment in MSc Environmental Management Course. And this works also illustrate the Green Impact Indonesia concept on the Sustainable Urban, Agriculture and Tourism Development. Background Lim Chu Kang Village was founded by Neo Tiew (1883-1875), a Chinese immigrant, on the banks of the Sungei Kranji. Today, in spite of the urbanization of most parts of Singapore, Lim Chu Kang is still largely rural and serves as a water catchment area with the four reservoirs of Sarimbun, Murai, Poyan and Tengah. In recent years, many new farms have been set up in the area to take advantage of the area’s “rustic charm”. The area has also begun to attract day trippers and overnight farmstayers. In early 2005, a number of the “new” farmers banded together to form the Kranji Countryside Association to raise the profile of the area as a recreational and educational venue. The Planning BriefThe current brief thus calls for Lim Chu Kang to be planned as a mini township that could eventually accommodate an additional population of 5,000 households, about the size of a neighbourhood in a conventional HDB new town. However, given the existing rural character, the planning has to be sensitive to the existing environment. In addition, this area is seen as presenting an excellent opportunity to testbed new ideas of housing form, design and environmental planning. The Concept Neotiewpia was a mini-township consisting of 3000 households, which preserving the rustic environment. The town economy was proposed on Agri-business, Agri-tourism as well R&D for Water and Environment. The careful planning process, alternative environmental-friendly-housing concepts were suggested. Further, other environmental mitigation measures were suggested to mitigate the impact of the development to the rustic Lim Chu Kang and Kranji Reservoir. This is the first part of total of 2 PPTThank you
