Socially Responsible Investing

Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) is a broad-based approach to investing that has grown to over $5 trillion worldwide. SRI recognizes that corporate responsibility and societal concerns are valid parts of investment decisions. SRI considers both the investor's financial needs and an investment’s impact on society. SRI investors encourage corporations to improve their practices on environmental, social, and governance issues. (Social Investment Forum (www.socialinvest.org)

As stated by Deutsche Bank's Pavan Sukdhev, the team leader in the preparation of a new report for the United Nations Environmental Programme about the potential impact of greening the global economy...“An investment of $50 billion a year in around 100,000 conservation areas worldwide could secure $5 trillion worth of services provided by these natural assets while generating millions of new jobs and securing the livelihoods for rural and indigenous peoples.“ (United Nations Environmental Programme Report)

Re-Shaping a Global Green EconomyFor Social and Environmental Justice

The Green City Clean Industry Program is based on a vertically integrated ‘Seed to Market’ business model, similar to the petrochemical ‘Well to Wheel’ business model. To accelerate community beautification, brownfield reclamation, and sustainable agriculture and forest restoration, we have designed a microlending based green cooperative project ownership model that will maximize project replication and local equity sharing to encourage communities worldwide to be a part of the emerging agro-forestry and waste-to-resource green industries.

The program creates the shortest window possible from project investment to positive cash flow while meeting the objectives of the UN Green Cities Declaration, as well as the need for sustainable local green economies that achieve 100% recycling, food security and energy independence.

United Nations Green Cities Declaration

The United Nations Green Cities Declaration is a collaborative platform and a call to action for cities across the globe to recognize that a majority of the world’s population now reside in cities, and that cities consume 75% of the world’s natural resources creating severe environmental challenges. The Urban Environmental Accords lay the groundwork for addressing the seven universal urban environmental issues of energy, waste reduction, urban design, urban nature, transportation, environmental health, and water.

Page 5: Green City Clean Industry Initiative

How can Cities become 'Green Cities'?

Energy – Convert agro-forestry, urban and industrial waste into clean, reliable and low-cost transportation fuels, electric power, thermal energy and district heating and cooling networks. Convert all coal burning plants into multi-product clean coal gasification facilities with CO2 capture and utilization technologies to achieve zero emissions.

Waste Reduction – End the era of landfilling waste by mandating 100% recycling into green fuels, power and products. Integrating recycling with gasification based power, fuel and drinking water production systems can convert waste into usable resources for communities.

Urban Design – Convert recyclable metal, glass, wood, concrete and plastics into building products that improve the appearance and functionality of towns and cities. Integrate all power, gas, water, sewage, fiber optic, and distributed heating and cooling utility networks into bundled underground pipelines to reduce installation and maintenance costs, enhance community aesthetics, improve safety, and avoid power and utility outages caused by fires, storms and severe winter weather. No unsightly wires or pipes should be visible in modern urban design.

Urban Nature – Creating an urban forest and garden environment with extensive parks and open space provides a connection to nature for city residents and provides additional green waste for conversion into green fuels, power and products. Cities should have 25% to 40% green space.

Page 6: Green City Clean Industry Initiative

Transportation – Providing carbon neutral, non-toxic and ultra-clean transportation fuels for automotive, marine and aviation fleets helps ensure clean air, land and water for communities. By converting waste streams into revenue streams, cities can then invest in new infrastructure for plug-in electric hybrid fleets and next generation mass transportation systems.

Environmental Health - The key objectives of eliminating landfills, brownfields, coal power plant emissions, and sewage and industrial waste discharges to waterways is to improve the environmental health of our cities, and to attain the highest possible level of health for the people of our communities. Our primary goal is to stop infectious disease caused by poor waste management. CO2 extraction systems will be applied to the production of environmental medicines, nutraceuticals, food purification and the monitoring of local ecosystems to identify possible environmental toxins.

Water – Our planet's surface area is 70% water, yet millions of people are dying every year from a lack of access to drinking water. We should be able to live and travel in any community and know that we can enjoy pure and safe drinking water of the highest quality. Gasification systems produce significant waste heat that can be used to provide safe and reliable drinking water for community residents. Many areas in Africa, America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East that experience persistent water scarcity can now use solar powered gasification desalination systems to change ocean water into drinking and irrigation water for distribution through pipeline networks to arid and drought prone regions.

Integrated biorefinery and urban agro-forestry programs enable cities and industries to achieve nearly 100% recycling of municipal and industrial waste into green fuels, power and products.

A Sustainable Economic Model for Financing Green Cities and Clean Industry

Cities and industries have an urgent need for capital to create employment opportunities and to address the critical environmental issues of energy, waste reduction, urban design, urban nature, transportation, environmental health and water quality.

Making community based investments in sustainable agro-forestry, recycling and integrated biorefineries provides reliable long-term income streams to project investors from cities and creditworthy industrial companies that purchase green fuels, power and products.

Page 8: Green City Clean Industry Initiative

The Paradise Green City Foundation has created a next-generation 'Seed to Market' cooperative based microlending business model that has the power to aggregate the human, technical and capital resources necessary to end the era of landfilling waste, deforestation and dependence on fossil fuels, while creating prosperity for the world's most underprivileged tribal groups, farmers and communities.

Green Cooperative members now have a unique opportunity to share in the project ownership and profits generated by state-of-the-art sustainable agro-forestry, recycling and integrated biorefineries, and to contribute to re-shaping a post crisis global green economy based on the principles of social and environmental justice.

The Paradise Green City Foundation and The Global Green Cooperative will collaborate with the United Nations Environmental Programme, the World Bank, government agencies, NGO's, foundations, and local community groups to maximize green industry employment opportunities, job training programs, microlending, affordable housing, water treatment systems, access to medical treatment centers, and agro-forestry, earth sciences and green technology education programs.

Closed Loop Gasification with Carbon Capture and Biochar Production is the Natural Solution for

Sustainable Agro-Forestry, Green Cities and Clean Industries

Page 15: Green City Clean Industry Initiative

Biochar – Restoring Earth's Natural Carbon Cycle'Biochar' is the very heart of sustainable agro-forestry, soil fertility and carbon sequestration. The application of biochar from gasification of biomass waste, and agro-forestry crops and residues is the natural solution for returning excess carbon in the atmosphere to our soil. The ancient Amazonian practice of Terra Preta has proven that biochar stores carbon in the soil for hundreds of years, providing the key to restoring global ecosystems and biodiversity by balancing carbon, nutrient and hydrological cycles.

The success of sustainable agro-forestry worldwide will require the implementation of the most advanced propagation, cultivation, and out-planting equipment and harvesting methods. Forest restoration, community beautification, and wildfire prevention programs must involve the wide-scale conversion of depleted soil and barren wasteland into fertile soil that can support the food, energy and resource requirements of communities.

Optimizing Growth with State-of-the-ArtSolar Powered Glasshouse Nursery Facilities

CO2 charged solar and biomass powered glasshouse nurseries will propagate native and endangered plant species, as well as the fastest growing, non-invasive trees and plants that offer high-value foods and botanical extracts. Tissue culture propagation is the fastest and lowest cost method for rapidly establishing large-scale agro-forestry plantations from elite plants. The most advanced glasshouse systems can achieve yields of up to 17x that of field grown crops and will include:

Page 17: Green City Clean Industry Initiative

CO2 supercritical fluid extraction is a breakthrough process for producing high value, contaminant free botanical extracts for use in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmeceutical and superfood industries. Under high pressure and low temperature beverage grade CO2 can selectively extract high-value medicines, nutrients, essential oils, aromas and flavorings that do not decompose salts, sugars, amino acids, peptides, aromas or other delicate nutritional compounds in plant materials.

CO2 extraction is the most logical solution for algae oil extraction, as it can recover 100% of the oil, while leaving all other valuable nutrients and protein for sale to the food, nutrient and pharmaceutical industries.

CO2 can also be used to purify food and beverage products by removing environmental toxins, heavy metals, bad fats and cholesterol.

CO2 can also provide a valuable environmental monitoring tool to help communities and industries to identify the types of environmental toxins that are being absorbed by plant and animal species within the local ecosystem.

100% Closed-LoopSingle-Stream Recycling Programs

Single-stream recycling programs eliminate the need for residents and businesses to separate recyclables from waste by allowing the use of a single container for placing all recyclables and waste materials together.

Single-stream recycling facilities automatically sort and separate all community waste resources without any human hands touching the waste. Recyclable metals, glass, wood, concrete and plastics can be re-manufactured into building and consumer products, while organic waste fraction is converted into high-value green fuel, power and products.

Residual ash from the gasification of carbon based waste is used for producing building blocks and non-toxic organic fertilizers.
