As you spend your first few weeks getting accustomed to college life, I encourage you to consider Northern’s largest student group, Greek Life! Despite what the media portrays, the values of the Greek community at ONU include being academically focused while demonstrating leadership skills and being active in the community to further the world around us.There are 4 sororities on campus—Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Zeta Tau Alpha. All share common values including scholarship, service, philanthropy, leadership, and most importantly sisterhood! Of course, being a member of a sorority is also lots of fun.

Worried about being homesick? Whether it’s a sisterhood activity or social or leadership building program, there is always something to do or attend when it comes to Greek Life.

So many opportunities can arise from membership in a sorority including leadership and communication development as well as networking.

Need guidance in choosing the right classes? Being a member of an organization with upperclassmen can assist you in accommodating to the new workload, and members of the Greek community have very di-verse majors from pharmacy to business to art to engineering, so there is always someone willing to help!

I hope that you will take advantage of the opportunities that are avail-able to you and at least inquire more about Greek Life! I know that I am so very thankful for all the positive experiences and leadership opportunities that Greek Life has provided me, and I hope you can experience that too.

Ballroom.• Mingle with sorority members during the Progressive dinner at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 in Affinity Village.• All sorority recruitment events are alcohol-free.• The ONU Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council adhere to a strict anti-hazing agreement. Any form of hazing, on or off campus, is not tolerated at any level within the Greek community, according to Ohio Northern University, the Office of Student Involvement, the national organizations and local chapters.

Alpha Xi Delta“Alpha Xi”Gamma Tau Chapter

The Gamma Tau Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta is a very close-knit, diverse group of women. We pride ourselves on being the first sorority on campus. We were Tau Kappa Kappa before we became Alpha Xi Delta in 1959.

We are very active on campus as a chapter and as individuals. Every sister is involved in at least one other campus organization, including athletics, groups like Kappa Phi and Kappa Epsilon, musical groups such as University Singers, and honors societies. We also take great pride in giving back to our community. Alpha Xi Delta proudly supports Autism Speaks, our national philanthropy, through events held throughout the school year including participation in the international event, Autism Speaks “Light It Up Blue.” Additionally, the sisters of Alpha Xi Delta can regularly be seen at philanthropic events for other campus organizations.

Alpha Xi Delta encourages all of its members to realize their potential through our core purposes: knowledge, leadership, service and sisterhood. By exemplifying these values individually and as a chapter we are able to benefit not only ourselves, but the community around us.

Delta Zeta“Dee Zee”

Zeta Kappa Chapter

Delta Zeta is the second largest social sorority worldwide. But Delta Zeta is more than just a sorority, it’s a sisterhood. Founded on the virtues of friendship, loyalty, trust and academics, Delta Zeta is all about creating everlasting and lifelong bonds. Delta Zeta is active throughout the year and holds multiple social and philanthropic events. Delta Zeta not only supports its national philanthropy, speech and hearing, but also strives to better the community through other philanthropic activities such as making cards for and dancing with the elderly residents of Elmcroft at their Valentine’s Day party. The sisters also helped out with the David Dellifield 5K with the brothers of Sigma Pi. Delta Zeta sisters are involved in more than just Greek life and can be found in other organizations and activities all over campus. Delta Zeta is a sorority that cannot be explained but has to be experienced.

Kappa Alpha Theta“Theta”

Theta represents most of the things you come to college searching for: meaning and lasting friendships, enough laughter for a lifetime, a support system that catches you even before you fall and a desire to uphold the scholastic achievements of those who came before you. Kappa Alpha Theta came to ONU in 1994, making us the newest sorority on campus. Most members of Theta are involved in many other organizations and activities on and off campus. Kap-pa Alpha Theta provides the home away from home that you know you can count on. Its value and excellence are things that can only be fully appreciated from the inside.

The sisterhood exists to nurture each member throughout her college and alumnae experience and to offer a lifelong opportunity for social, intellectual and moral growth as she meets the higher and broader demands of mature life. Zeta Tau Alpha“Zeta”

Delta Theta Chapter

The Delta Theta chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha was installed at Ohio Northern University in 1959 after years of being known locally as Theta Phi Delta. Since then, Zeta has kept strong traditions of sister-hood, academic excellence and leadership on campus.

Proudly displaying their letters, the Zetas are highly active in student organizations from Habitat for Humanity and Mortar Board to Home-coming Court and SPC.

More than anything though, the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha take pride in their chapter’s willingness to serve the community. Throughout the year, Zetas encourage the campus to THINK-PINK!® as they continue to suc-ceed in supporting their cause breast cancer education and awareness. At Ohio Northern University, the ZTA Race for the Ribbon 5K stands as the most successful philanthropic project in Greek life, raising over $5,000 each year. The sisters of ZTA take great pride in their philanthropy, know-ing that tens of thousands of women have been affected by breast cancer.

Yet beyond all of this, it’s important to remember that Zeta Tau Alpha is more than just a social group. Instead, is a tight-knit family with strong bonds of sisterhood that will last a lifetime. Within Zeta Tau Alpha, sisters serve as a source of devoted support, laughter, fond memories and encouragement to truly strive towards your dreams.

Theta Chi“Theta Chi”Zeta Kappa Chapter

Theta Chi was founded nationally in an effort to put an end to hazing. Today, all of the hundreds of international chapters stand firmly against hazing. Theta Chi upholds a strict alcohol-free housing rule: encouraging scholarship, philanthropy and alcohol-free activities. The magic of Theta Chi is in the fun times had, the leadership skills developed and the personal growth seen throughout all of our initiates. Due to the size of our international fraternity, our brothers find many employers are Theta Chi initiates from their college days. These employers know that all brothers uphold the same set of common positive characteristics. Theta Chi is composed of determined, committed, involved, fun-loving young men.

Delta Sigma Phi has been present on the Ohio Northern campus since 1920. We have enjoyed an enduring history with the University and have contributed much to Northern. We have several brothers who have taken leadership roles in various organizations, and many brothers have taken membership roles as well. We pride ourselves on our strong alumni relations and always strive to strengthen that bond further. Delta Sigma Phi has a lot to offer, and we extend our invitation to all Northern men to join this elite organization.

Phi Delta Chi is a professional/social fraternity whose mission is to advance the profession of pharmacy through fraternal activities. Phi Delta Chi sponsors a variety of professional projects designed to increase the public’s awareness of pharmacy and to provide financial and moral support to charitable groups. Phi Delta Chi links its members with a communal bond of fraternal spirit that binds them together as they partially fulfill their personal commitments to their profession. Besides the obvious benefit of belonging to a national organization of thousands of brothers, Phi Delta Chi offers many very important benefits in professionalism and scholastic encouragement. Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity develops leaders to advance the profession of pharmacy and promotes scholastic, professional and social development.

Sigma Pi“Sig Pi”Zeta Chapter

Founded in 1912 on Ohio Northern’s campus, the Zeta chapter of Sigma Pi has a tradition of excellence. Our pillared chapterhouse, overlooking the polar-bear-shaped pond and the campus beyond, houses many of our nearly 50 active brothers. Sigma Pi continually strives to set the standard academically, athletically and socially. The thing that makes Sigma Pi unique, though, is the unity of a true brotherhood. Although we are a diverse group of young men, we join together to promote our common ideals of scholarship, chivalry and character. We challenge each other to become active on ONU’s campus and in the community through various community service events. We encourage you to visit our chapterhouse during rush and discover the excitement and pride of being a Sigma Pi.

Sigma Phi Epsilon“Sig Ep”

The Ohio Alpha Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was founded at Ohio Northern University in 1905. The brotherhood upholds their three cardinal principles: virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. After more than 100 years on campus, the Sig Eps maintain a high standard of excellence academically, athletically and socially. The brothers are actively involved in campus organizations and are standout leaders in these groups. Additionally, Sig Ep is one of the largest fraternities in the nation, with countless leadership and development programs hosted each year. Becoming a member of Sig Ep is a tremendous experience that provides a lifetime of brotherhood and opportunity.

Interfraternity Council

Interfraternity Council, or IFC, is the governing body of the five national fraternities here on Ohio Northern’s campus. The council is comprised of nine elected positions of members from active chapters recognized at ONU as well as two representatives from each of the chapters. IFC promotes scholarship, service, and leadership through activities and speakers that the council brings to campus. IFC also works with the University’s administration to make sure that each chapter member maintains high social, moral, and academic standards.

A Letter From Interfraternity CouncilWelcome to campus!

I want to start off by congratulating you on your acceptance to Ohio Northern University and welcome you. I encourage you to take a couple of minutes to look through this booklet and consider Greek life as you start this new chapter in your life. This booklet will inform you and introduce you to the Greek chapters here at Ohio Northern.

You have chosen Ohio Northern as your college for a variety of reasons, many of which that make

ONU so unique. It is unlike any other college and the same can be said of the Greek system. Greeks at Ohio Northern strive for success through leadership, academic excellence, and service. Virtually all organizations on campus have Greek representation within them.

What separates Greeks from all other campus organizations are the lifetime friendships and bonds that form between Brothers or Sisters. The Greeks you build relationships with will help mentor you through college, offer advice, and be there when you need them the most. Networking is also an advantage to joining Greek life as you will be able to build connections within your profession and other interests.

I encourage you to keep an open mind when it comes to joining a Greek chapter at ONU. Each chapter has its own niche and everyone can find their right fit. There will be numerous rush events for you to get a chance to see which Greek organization best fits you and I challenge you to attend as many as possible and bring your newest friends along with you. You will not be disappointed with your decision to be more, to be Greek!
