What is “Greater Than Camp?”This summer is a little different from most in that Falls Creek has been cancelled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In lieu of this, we have tried to come up with a meaningful alternative. One thing that has not changed is our belief that Jesus is greater than anything. Knowing and trusting Jesus is what makes it “Greater Than Camp.” We long for our students and families to embrace Jesus’ soul-satisfying vision for their lives. Because of limited resources and because we have a specific goal for this camp, we do limit attendees to the students that actually attend Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. We loosely and graciously define this as any student who has attended any combination of five church functions during this past school year. For example, a student who attended two Sunday morning worship services and three Wednesday night youth meetings would qualify. The age range for this camp is students who will be entering 7th–12th grade for the 2020-21 school year.

What is the new plan?We have a plan to hold our retreat at Angel Fire in New Mexico, and instead of the traditional camp programming we are used to at Falls Creek, we will be doing our own unique camp. While it is impossible to re-create the Falls Creek experience, we are hoping that a more intimate setting in the mountains of New Mexico will provide a backdrop for a fun and memorable week together. The teaching content for this year’s camp will revolve around the “God Story.” The purpose of the “God Story” is for us to learn the major themes of the Bible in order to create a framework for understanding who Jesus is and how we can share Him with others.

We are still in the process of planning this trip, so most of the details are tentative at this point. Here are a few examples of things we hope to do: disc golf, mountain biking, horseback riding, team-building challenges, hiking, board games, card games, fishing, etc. If you have any questions or concerns about “Greater Than Camp,” feel free to contact me at (580)334-7903.

Shorts must have at least a 5” inseam or longer.

No pants or shorts with writing on the back.

Dresses must include accessory wear under or over any straps that do not cover the shoulder.

Tank tops are not allowed at Falls Creek.

Sleeveless shirts are acceptable, but must go from the neck to the shoulder seam and not split down the sides.

Shoes and shirts must be worn at all times outside cabins, except when swimming.

All shorts and dresses should be modest in length.

Dresses and skirts must be 4” from the top of the knee or longer.

Dress and skirt slits should be modest in length.

All apparel must cover the shoulder.

The brand or style of short cannot be used to determine their appropriateness. For instance, if NIKE shorts do not have a 5” inseam they are not permissible.

The intent of the Falls Creek dress code is to provide an equitable dress code for all campers that will encourage modesty above legalism. Parents and church leaders are urged to see that only clothing which meets the policies and regulations of the conference center is brought to Falls Creek.

(this includes e-cigarettes and facsimiles) is not permitted on the grounds during any week of camp. The possession of offensive weapons of any sort is prohibited at Falls Creek. Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center reserves the right to perform a random drug and weapon search at any time and confiscate items that distract form the camp goals or that violate the code of conduct of the camp.

Pets/animals (other than service dogs), fireworks, rock throwing, water fighting, laser pointers, and shaving cream fights are prohibited on the grounds. Masks or any other disguise over the face cannot be worn by anyone outside of their cabin. For the safety of all guests, skates, rollerblades, and skateboards are permitted only in the SwiftSkate Park area and only at designated times. All cycles (uni-, bi-, or tri-) are prohibited on the grounds. Violation of this policy could result in confiscation or equipment. No wading or swimming is allowed in the creeks of lake unless there is a Falls Creek lifeguard present. No swimming/wading pools are allowed at cabins.

All guests are required to show proof of registration or ID to enter or re-enter the conference center grounds. Day guests should leave grounds by midnight. Courtesy Crew will be on duty 24-hours

per day. Courtesy Crew, when called upon, will assist the adult leadership of any cabin in dealing with discipline problems that may arise. Courtesy Crew is authorized to enforce the code of conduct and policies of the conference center.

Unnecessary and careless traffic is prohibited on Falls Creek grounds. Only conference center operated golf carts, utility carts, or low speed vehicles (LSVs) are permitted. Delivery trucks are not permitted during summer camp weeks except to supply conference center-owned concessions. Motorcycles may only drive to and from the gate to their cabin or meeting place. Recreation vehicles for living or sleeping purposes are permitted only in designated areas and must register in advance with the Falls Creek Office. All passengers must be seated in the vehicle according to its designated capacity—no passengers are allowed in pickup beds or in the back of vehicles with hatch doors raised.

Falls Creek is a Christian environment that promotes personal encouragement and spiritual development of every camper. Falls Creek does not condone or encourage any activity on grounds that humiliate any camper, including initiation, hazing, and pranks.

CLOTHING: Clothing for six days- t-shirts, shorts, pants, jeans, swimwear, active wear, pajamas, etc. During recreation times you may get sweaty and dirty, so please pack accordingly. Please see the modesty guidelines at the bottom of this sheet.

TOILETRIES: Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, towel, wash cloth, sunscreen, etc.

BEDDING: We will have various options for sleeping. You can bring a tent, sleep on a covered patio, or indoor on the floor. Please plan accordingly by bringing your own Pillow, sheets and blanket, sleeping bag, cot, sleeping pad, air mattress.

BIBLE AND WRITING UTENSIL: If you do not have a Bible, please let us know; we will provide you with one. You will be given a student booklet at camp, but you may also want to bring your own notebook.

LUNCH MONEY: About $20-$30 to cover lunch on Monday and lunch on Saturday (on the road).

WATER BOTTLE: Angel Fire is high and dry. You will need to have a water bottle you can carry with you to keep yourself hydrated. Most of the students who get sick at camp are those who do not drink enough water or eat enough at mealtimes.

OPTIONAL:

EXTRA MONEY: You will need money to purchase lunch on the way to camp and on the way home from camp. There may be an opportunity to purchase souvenirs from Angel Fire at some point. If you would like to bring extra money for that you may. CELL PHONES: STUDENTS CAN BORROW PASTOR ANDREW’S PHONE DURING FREE TIME TO CALL HOME. IF YOU CHOOSE TO SEND A MOBILE PHONE WITH YOUR STUDENT ALL MOBILE DEVICES WILL BE COLLECTED ONCE WE GET TO CAMP: ALL phones will be locked up in a storage bin for safe keeping and can be checked out during the afternoon for short periods and then returned to storage bin.

DON’T BRING:

EXTRA FOOD: You will be well fed at camp; there is no need to bring extra refreshments. Please let us know if you have special dietary needs or food allergies.
