    GREETINGS FROM YOUR EXALTED RULER

Wow! What a month it has been. The Lodge has picked up in activities and events. Things are going exceptionally well. I am starting to see familiar faces coming back into the Lodge. The Oktoberfest in the beginning of October got us off to a good start and, as usual, was successful. The food was excellent, thank you Heike and Lee Wil-bur. The entertainer, Tony “O”, the One-man Band, was exceptional, one of the better en-tertainers we have had here at the Lodge

As November starts we first want to remember all veterans on November 11, as they have preserved the rights and freedom of our great country. November is also the month of giv-ing thanks for all we have received throughout this year, for our families and friends and all

the blessings that God has given us. Remember all those who have gone to a better place.

Regarding upcoming events - don't forget to mark your calendars for:

November 10: Memorial Service for Brother Gerard Barnhart

November 11: Veterans Dinner- Whether you’re a Veteran or not I encourage you to join us Sunday, Novem-ber 11th for a great meal and special program. Jim Flanders will be here with a special program to honor our Veterans. All Veterans and Active Duty Military will receive a complimentary dinner that evening. Please call the club to reserve your seat!

November 17: 23rd Annual Charitable Trust Golf Tournament – This is our annual fundraiser for our Charita-ble Trust, which funds our events and activities for youths on Greater Pine Island. Please support this event by sponsoring a hole $100 and/or signing up your foursome to play.

November 22: Lodge Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner – Please make plans to join your fellow Elks for great food and fellowship.

November 27: Please join us in welcoming the District Deputy, Samuel Wenzel, who will be visiting our Lodge.

Lots of good things are happening at the Lodge. Make sure to drop by and check them out. I want to personal-ly thank all the volunteers for helping in the month of October. Don’t forget that our volunteers are what makes our Lodge and club a success. We are always in need of volunteers for numerous activities, so please contrib-ute; you will be happy that you did.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone that our Lodge Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month (2nd only, in December), so if you have any ideas or concerns, or just want to see first-hand what's going on in terms of Lodge business and activities, I would encourage you to attend. Often, information that "floats about" is not exactly accurate. In fact, I heard of a sign that is posted in the Club Room of one of our Elk Lodg-es, that reads as follows: "Your comments at the Bar are useless; Your comments at a Lodge Meeting are priceless."

  • FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK

We are anxiously awaiting all our snowbirds as a few are returning. The office continues to be busy with improvements for the lodge. Our delinquent list is down to 21. We contin-ue to try to remind these people to submit their dues. On a brighter, note our membership has grown to 407. I am available by email, text and phone, [email protected] or 443-562-8501 7 days a week. If you need anything don’t hesitate to get in touch. I look

    MEMBERSHIP

    New members by transfer demit:

    Larry Morgan

    John Krugle

There has been a big Membership awareness push to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Our Order. We cannot allow our Membership recruiting to fall apart in this Lodge year. Our Order thrives on new, active members. Yes, we are all volunteers and yes, our society has changed over the years making it more diffi-cult to bring new members into our Lodges. Please continue to stress the good deeds the Elks do for the Youth, the Veterans, and the communities in which we live. Once a new member is initiated, please go out of your way to make him or her feel welcome. If you know of someone who has lapsed contact them invite them to a dinner or event, let them see what a wonderful place our lodge is and perhaps they will rejoin. Sometimes all it takes is a personal invitation from a fellow member to bring them back. Membership needs to be a top priority of everything we do. By focusing on membership growth in our Lodge today we will also be focused on the future of our Lodge. We have a great Lodge that I can proudly call my 2nd home and family, let’s grow our numbers. Let’s get everyone we can, to join and become our brothers and sisters. If you have some ideas about recruiting new members or bringing back lapsed members and or would like to chair this committee please contact the ER Judy Hopkins, [email protected].

  • HOUSE COMMITTEE MESSAGES

As we head into the Fall & Winter months, the Lodge is going to at-tempt to have some type of entertainment every Friday. We are in the process of getting the schedule together so if you have an idea or suggestion or a small function that you would like to put on, pro-pose it to the House Committee. Remember these events don’t have to be large functions, just something for a few hours. We are willing to try anything new here at the Lodge so that members can come and enjoy themselves on a Friday night. Also don’t be afraid to step up and lend a hand to make Friday Night events successful.

The new foot rest has been added to the bar, if you haven’t seen the wonderful transformation to the social quarters please stop by.

We have also added a new Point of Sales System, it should make it easier for our bartenders and cashiers to serve you. If you have shied away from helping in these area because of the POS system this would be a great time to come in and learn this new friendlier system.

    Save these Dates for December:

Sunday December 2 – Greater Pine Island 2781 25th Anniversary Party Saturday December 8 – Christmas Dinner/Dance Monday December 31 – New Year’s Eve party

  • ENF CORNER

A Letter from Erika J. Barger, PER, State Chairman, Elks National Foundation Certificates

    October 8, 2018

Exalted Rulers, Secretaries, and Members All:

It’s October! That means ENF Month is finally here – a chance for Elkdom to show support for the Elks National

Foundation and its programs! From dinner dances to 50/50 raffles and everything in between, Lodges across

our state and country will host special events to recognize ENF donors, programs, and accomplishments, as

well as to raise funds and get members excited about ENF. ENF Month is about Elks making a difference in

their communities - from helping scholarship recipients attend the colleges of their dreams to providing care

packages to lonely veterans. It’s also about YOU – generous supporters who make these programs possible.

ENF Month is a perfect time for members to become involved with Elks programs in your community.

Last year, Florida Elks donated a total of $345,257.14 to the Foundation, and, in return, received $792,850.00

from the ENF in the form of various scholarships and grants which helped our local communities. That's a ratio

of 2.296 for every dollar the Foundation received from our state last year!

In order to help our lodges, districts, and state meet the Grand Exalted Ruler’s $4.75 per-member giving goal

this year, please consider sponsoring an ENF event at your Lodge this month and share with your new mem-

bers why you support the Foundation. One of the easiest ways for members to support the ENF year-round is

by joining the Fidelity Club, ENF's monthly giving program, recognizing giving via automatic, regularly sched-

uled payments. Eligible donors have a monthly or quarterly payment deducted by credit card or direct deb-

it. Those interested should visit enf.elks.org/FC for more information.

Together, we can exceed this year’s goal and “Make the Best Better!” Thank you for your continued support

    of the Elks National Foundation.

2018-2019 GRAND LODGE AMERICANISM ESSAY CONTEST

“What Makes You Proud of America?”

A message from Dennis A. Ramsey, Chairman, Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee

I am pleased to announce that Members of the Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee have selected the theme, “What Makes You Proud of America” for the 2018-2019 Grand Lodge Americanism Essay Contest. The contest starts with the Local Lodges, progresses through District and State levels, and ends with the naming of our National Winners at the Grand Lodge Session in St. Louis, Missouri in July 2019. This very important Patriotic Contest gives school children in grades 5-8 the opportunity to express views on their pride in America. Nationally, first-place winners in each division will receive a bronze plaque. Many Lodges, Districts and State Associations also may offer different types of awards to their winners. Now is the time for all Lodges to contact their local school districts and pro-vide them with the new topic. Ask them to add the essay contest to their fall curriculum. The material can be found by clicking on this http://www.Elks.Org/grandlodge/fraternal/. This contest is most im-portant because it involves school children in your area, showing them Americanism at its best. The contest also demonstrates that Members of your Lodge are proud to be Americans, proud to be Elks and proud to participate in the Americanism programs of Grand Lodge. Your Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee is committed to serving and assisting you as we all show pride in America.

Our lodge is in need of a member to chair the Americanism Committee. I want to emphas ize that this is a committee no one person has to be responsible for all the work. Get 2 or 3 of your friend or members to help. Please consider taking on this role. Contact your ER Judy Hopkins, [email protected]
