Speaking at a function organized by Jammu and Kashmir Association of Hajj and Umrah companies, Kumar said “we will call up the meeting of stakeholders and officials to chalk out how Hajj and Umrah companies can be registered.” “These companies will be registered with Tourism Department and Waqf for which due verification by police will be carried out so that character and financial status of the tour operator will be ascertained,” he said. He warned that anybody found cheating the pilgrims will have to face strict action. “It is unfortunate that previously some have duped pilgrim which is most unfortunate thing. But we try our best that no such incidents will take place in future,” he assured. Speaking on the occasion, District Development Com- missioner (DDC), Srinagar, Farooq Shah said: “We will make sure that only genuine Hajj and Umrah companies will facili- tate Hajj and Umrah. Otherwise it also creates problems for the administration, when pilgrims are cheated they come on roads to protest which causes law and order problems.” President, Jammu and Kashmir Association of Hajj and Umrah companies, Sheikh Feroz said this sector is providing livelihood to hundreds of people. “We want government to regulate Hajj and Umrah Com- panies so that this sector will become pilgrim friendly. Local companies facilitate Hajj of 3,000 pilgrims and Umrah of 10,000 pilgrims in year,” Feroz added. He said that during last year this sector did a business of around Rs 170 crore. “We want that the government should not only pay attention to inbound tourism and also to out- bound tourism which has a thriving market and can generate employment in a big way. The meeting was attended by DIG Kashmir, Afdul Mujtaba, SSP, Srinagar, Ashiq Bukhari, Director Doordarshan besides members of Hajj and Umrah companies and hoteliers. Govt to devise strategy to register Hajj and Umrah COs MUKEET AKMALI Srinagar: Mar 29: Minister of Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir today said tourism must be delinked from politics. “Tourism is unnecessarily being targeted. It should be seen only as a source of economy. It contributes major portion to our GDP and provides employ- ment to lakhs,” Mir said at a launch of Kashmir Spring fes- tival organized by Department of Tourism J&K here. “I appeal people to give tour- ism a chance. Don’t mix it with other things,” he added stating that the cancellations of book- ings by tourists are a hoax. “This is not true. Those people who spread rumors are enemies of tourism. I challenge anybody who says that 90 per- cent bookings have been can- celled. Violence happens every- where, whether it is Delhi, Mumbai or America, it leads to disruption for sometime, but again things move normally,” he said while responding to a question whether 90 percent bookings have been canceled in Kashmir. About the launch of the Kashmir spring festival, Mir said that main motive of the event is to send a message across the world that Kash- miris are ready to welcome them for the new tourism year. Pertinently in regard to spring festival, three main events were held at three dif- ferent locations in Kashmir to mark the beginning Islamic University of science and tech- nology (IUST) where the min- ister for tourism unveiled the logo of students spring festival. Srinagar, Mar 29: The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Shailender Kumar has said that the administration will chalk out strategy to register Hajj and Umrah Companies so that no aspirant will be duped in future.

Speaking at a function organized by Jammu and Kashmir Association of Hajj and Umrah companies, Kumar said “we will call up the meeting of stakeholders and officials to chalk out how Hajj and Umrah companies can be registered.”

“These companies will be registered with Tourism Department and Waqf for which due verification by police will be carried out so that character and financial status of the tour operator will be ascertained,” he said.

He warned that anybody found cheating the pilgrims will have to face strict action. “It is unfortunate that previously some have duped pilgrim which is most unfortunate thing. But we try our best that no such incidents will take place in future,” he assured.

Speaking on the occasion, District Development Com-missioner (DDC), Srinagar, Farooq Shah said: “We will make sure that only genuine Hajj and Umrah companies will facili-tate Hajj and Umrah. Otherwise it also creates problems for the administration, when pilgrims are cheated they come on roads to protest which causes law and order problems.”

President, Jammu and Kashmir Association of Hajj and Umrah companies, Sheikh Feroz said this sector is providing livelihood to hundreds of people.

“We want government to regulate Hajj and Umrah Com-panies so that this sector will become pilgrim friendly. Local companies facilitate Hajj of 3,000 pilgrims and Umrah of 10,000 pilgrims in year,” Feroz added.

He said that during last year this sector did a business of around Rs 170 crore. “We want that the government should not only pay attention to inbound tourism and also to out-bound tourism which has a thriving market and can generate employment in a big way.

The meeting was attended by DIG Kashmir, Afdul Mujtaba, SSP, Srinagar, Ashiq Bukhari, Director Doordarshan besides members of Hajj and Umrah companies and hoteliers.

Srinagar: Mar 29: Minister of Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir today said tourism must be delinked from politics.

“Tourism is unnecessarily being targeted. It should be seen only as a source of economy. It contributes major portion to our GDP and provides employ-ment to lakhs,” Mir said at a launch of Kashmir Spring fes-tival organized by Department of Tourism J&K here.

“I appeal people to give tour-ism a chance. Don’t mix it with other things,” he added stating that the cancellations of book-ings by tourists are a hoax.

“This is not true. Those people who spread rumors are enemies of tourism. I challenge anybody who says that 90 per-cent bookings have been can-celled. Violence happens every-where, whether it is Delhi, Mumbai or America, it leads to disruption for sometime, but again things move normally,”

he said while responding to a question whether 90 percent bookings have been canceled in Kashmir.

About the launch of the Kashmir spring festival, Mir said that main motive of the event is to send a message across the world that Kash-miris are ready to welcome them for the new tourism year.

Pertinently in regard to spring festival, three main events were held at three dif-ferent locations in Kashmir to mark the beginning Islamic University of science and tech-nology (IUST) where the min-

ister for tourism unveiled the logo of students spring festival.

Mir was flanked by Talat Parvez, Director Tourism Kashmir and Prof. A.R.Trag, Vice Chancellor, IUST who were present on the occasion besides members of civil soci-ety, students and the media.

In the afternoon Mir attend-ed a colorful event at Zabar-wan Park along the foot hills of the famed zabarwan hills. The minister symbolically communicated the prelude of the spring festival by cutting a ribbon and unveiled the spring festival logo.

This was followed by the flagging of the shikaras as well. Prize Distribution ceremony at Zabarwan Park for Shikara race, interschool

The Minister also tour Dal Lake and interacted with Shika-ra owners and listened to their grievances. He assured the speedy redressal and informed the owners of the house boats and shikaras that encouraging the tourist industry is on the top agenda of the Government.

This was followed by Paint-

ing competitions and snow-boarding Championships followed by Musical concert where variety of musical pro-grammed were organized to mark the show. Young artists participated in the painting competitions. The minister later visited the tulip gardens as well with senior officeres of the state Government. The min-ister had an interaction at a tea session with students regarding art scenario in the valley.
