The Mahindra and Mahindra Limited (M&M) is an Indian automobile company
formed in 1947. Even though they are making all types of passenger vehicles they
are famous for their utility vehicles.
The M&M has four Sport Utility Vehicles in their stable. All of them are 7+
seaters except for the Quanto which is a 5-seater. The Thar is the cheapest
among them and the XUV 500 is the costliest. The Scorpio is the most popular of
the Mahindra SUVs because of its affordable prices and loaded features. With a
sales figure of nearly 5000 units per month the Scorpio regularly finds a place in
the list of the top ten best selling cars of India.
Launched in 2002 the Mahindra Scorpio has undergone many facelifts, the latest
being in 2014. On 16th July 2015 the M&M released the two automatic variants of
the Scorpio. Now the Scorpio comes in 12 diesel variants in trims of S2, S4, S6, S8
and S10. Four of the variants have all wheel transmission and two have 6 speed
automatic transmissions. The variants are priced Rupees 8.83 to 14.33 lakh.
The Mahindra Scorpio is the best off-roading Indian SUV with a ground clearance
of 180 mm. The Scorpio comes in colours of regal blue, fiery black, molten red, mist
silver and diamond white. The base variants have black bumpers, projector type
head lamps, LED tail lamps and roof rails as standard features. Top variants have
LED daytime running lights.
The cabin of the Scorpio is spacious and can seat 7 to 9 persons. The standard
features include an engine immobiliser, child lock facility, central locking with key,
fabric seats, power tilt steering and externally operated body coloured ORVMs.
The S4+ onwards additional features like 2 air bags, ABS and EBD are provided.
From S6 variant onwards a central locking system and a music system are provided.
S8 onwards electrically operated ORVMs are available. The S10 AWD and AT
variant have an automatic AC, rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, touch
screen controls, GPS system and Bluetooth connectivity for audio controls and
telephony.
The S2 powered by 2523 cc, 75 bhp engines and the other variants powered by
2179 cc, 120 bhp engines give mileages of 15.4 kmpl. The dimensions of the Scorpio
are 4456 mm length (4430 mm for S2), 2680 mm width and 180 mm ground
clearance. The wheels are 215/65 R15 for the base variants and 235/65 R17 for
the top. The accelerating time from 0 to 100 kmph is 16.5 sec and the top speeds

The loaded cabin features, affordable prices, rugged build and good mileages make
