Le Creuset 3-Ply

The saucepan set comes in 3 graduating sizes and lids. Its multi-layered technology combines the cooking benefits of both stainless steel and aluminium, allowing the heat to evenly spread throughout the pan.

Apart from being induction-safe, the Pans can also be used in grills and ovens up to 220 degrees Celsius. They come with a lifetime guarantee, making them a bit more expensive.

Owners of the 3-Ply set have remarked on its design and ergonomics, noting the good quality and the ease of cleaning them.

Circulon Infinite

Circulon Infinite boasts being the only cookware with hard-anodized non-stick surface with stainless steel lids. It also has a fully-encapsulated base which supports induction cooking, spreading the heat evenly and reducing hot spot build-up.

Circulon Infinite is a 5-piece set with 2 frying pans and 3 saucepans of several different sizes. All pieces are dishwasher friendly , resistant to abrasion and durable.

Though some have mentioned that the stainless steel handles were prone to heating, the Infinite has been lauded for its price and quality. Owners of Infinite also find the design and the weight fantastic.

Meyer Select Stainless Steel

Meyer Select Stainless Steel is an induction and oven-friendly cookware set. The 6-piece cookware includes 1 stir-fry, 1 French skillet, 1 milk pan, and 3 saucepans in graduating sizes. The sauce and milk pans are also equipped with twin pouring lips.

The main attraction is the set’s unique glass straining lid, which allow a safer and easier handling. The pans are non-stick, and they clean easily.

The set is affordable, and owners have mentioned that they are a steal given the number and types of pans included.

Karcher Jasmin

The Karcher Jasmin is a 20-piece cookware set comprising 1 saucepan, 4 pots of graduating size , 1 roasting pot , and 4 stainless steel bowls with sealable glass lids.

The pieces in the set are all rust-proof and stainless steel. The base is encapsulated, with a heat-retaining conductor that is suited for induction cooking. All pieces are dishwasher safe and easy to clean.

One buyer saw a flaw with the lids which, although snug, tended to swivel. But generally, those who bought Karcher Jasmin are happy with its space-saving design. If you want to get pretty much everything you need in terms of saucepans for induction hobs then at just under £70 this is very good value for money.

Tefal Banquet

The 5-piece Tefal Banquet cookware set comes in highly durable stainless steel. It includes 1 milk pan, 2 saucepans equipped with glass lids and 2 different sized frying pans.

The Banquet is compatible with induction hobs, and the set is also the least expensive of the 5. Although stylish, the pans weigh fairly more than most other saucepans for induction hobs.

The big problem is that the two frying pans are non-stick but the other three saucepans are not. We think you should give this set a miss.

Induction Pans Guide

Induction hobs are the future of cooking! A lot of modern kitchens make use of induction hobs for cooking and they are great alternatives to the traditional gas or electric stoves. Many homeowners and restaurants are switching to induction hobs to reduce accidents and for energy efficiency. The main concern with induction cooking is that only certain pans can be used on them

Essentially Induction hobs require saucepans which contain iron. Aluminium, copper, glass or Pyrex cookware will simply not work with induction hobs, unless the pans are coated with a magnetic material to make them suitable for use with induction hobs. However, most modern cookware uses different types of metal on different parts of a saucepan.

Page 12: Great saucepan sets

So how do you know if a saucepan can be used on an induction hob? There are two ways of determining this. The first is to carefully read the label and check if it says “induction pan” or “induction ready”; The second option is to check the pan with a magnet. Any magnet will do. If the magnet sticks or clings readily to the base, then what you have are induction saucepans or induction-ready pans. If the magnet does not stick to the pan or does so feebly, then it is not an induction compatible saucepan. If you are shopping online and unable to physically check the saucepan then check out the reviews by customers to see what they say about cooking with saucepans on an induction cook-top.

What if almost all of your cookware or one favourite pan you’d like to use is not induction friendly? Should you just throw it all away? There is a way that you can make your saucepans compatible by using an induction disc which helps to create a magnetic field between the saucepan and the hob. Unfortunately the saucepan won’t be as efficient or effective as when you’re using induction specific pans which is why we recommend investing in new cookware.

Why Quality Cookware Is Important with Induction Cooking

One thing that is not mentioned very often is that inferior cookware has been known to make irritating sounds on induction cooking tops. For example slack fitted handles on saucepans, usually the type riveted on, can vibrate creating an annoying sound. On higher power settings light weight lids may vibrate and pans with uneven bases can also vibrate on the glass surface.

Another induction related glitch is sometimes caused by the encapsulated slugs in the base of the cookware. Basically, clad cookware uses layers of different metals and if the centre piece is not welded, it can move about at high power settings. This can cause a high frequency sound which may not be loud but can be very irritating.

Page 14: Great saucepan sets

This is why it is worth investing in high quality cookware but remember high quality does not necessarily mean expensive!

Why Quality Cookware Is Important with Induction Cooking..

When buying induction hob pans, there is no set rule for style or shape. What’s important is that the pot or pan you’re buying is well suited to the type of dish you’re going to cook and that it fits well with the size of your induction hob. Remember, getting the correct induction pans for you is crucial to improving your overall cooking experience!

Circulon Pans

With over 150 five star reviews on the British Amazon site the 5 piece circulon pans in the Infinite range are very popular. However, I had not read much about how they fared on an induction hob so thought I would run a test for myself.

For this test I am using a Circulon Infinite 20cm French skillet. This should give us a good indication of the quality of infinite meyer pans and help you decide if it’s the right cookware for you.

Page 16: Great saucepan sets

Circulon Infinite cookware test

I want to start by saying that I am not a good cook. I’m not even an OK cook. I bought my circulon pans to make it easier for me to cook and as motivator to improve my cooking skills. I started with the Circulon infinite 20cm French skillet because it was the cheapest item and I didn’t want to buy the 5 piece set and end up not using it. The first thing you notice about this circulon infinite skillet when you take it out of the box is how stylish it looks. Pick it up and it feels strong and sturdy. Minor complaints about circulon infinite cookware is that it’s heavy but this isn’t a problem with this 20cm skillet because it’s quite small. All anodised cookware is heavier because of the way its made. When you study the saucepan more closely you can see the famous circulon circles. Unlike cheaper non-stick saucepans the non-stick element is fused into the infinite circulon saucepans so you don’t need to worry about flakes.

Could you fry an egg?

I think eggs can be tough to fry. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve done it and split the egg yoke trying to scrape the egg from the saucepan onto the plate. So my first test was an egg cooked using gas on a low temperature with no oil. This is where I had my first disaster! I put the egg in before the circulon infinite saucepan had properly heated up. Fortunately, the egg heated up and I was able to flip the egg over without splitting the yoke or having to do any scraping. The result was one beautifully cooked egg, intact and not covered in oil. The next egg I cooked was on an induction hob. It was the perfect shape for the ring on my hob and connected well. It heated well and cooked the egg beautifully. The next test of my cooking prowess was easy, bacon. It won’t surprise anyone when I say that it cooked well, because even I don’t mess up when cooking bacon.I decided to not bother washing the saucepan straight away and left it for a few hours. When I went back to it the fat from the bacon was well and truly stuck on. I probably should have tried hand washing it but instead I put it in the dishwasher to run overnight while I went to bed. I opened the dishwasher the next morning to discover a beautifully clean saucepan. So far these circulon pans have impressed me. The next time I used the pan I left the remains of the cooking on again for a few hours. This time I washed it by hand with a cloth and cheap washing up liquid. Again it cleaned beautifully.

Are circulon pans too hot to handle?

So one of the main things that puts people off buying circulon pans is the question “do the handles get hot on these meyer pans?” Well the short answer is yes BUT …. Yes the handle does get hot near the base of the saucepan which I’ve shown in

the picture below BUT …. On this 20cm saucepan, the smallest in the range I have yet to burn myself and I

have big hands! The only reason I found out it got hot is because I had the temperature on high and prodded it with my finger.

If this is the only thing holding you back from buying then the circulon elite

range has silicon handles or you can buy silicon handles to put over the top but like I said before, the hot handle has not been an issue for me personally.

Circulon Pans - Pros

They work really well on induction hobs.

No oil needed for healthier eating.

You can use low heat.

I love the circles and the look and feel of these circulon suacepans.

Dishwasher friendly, as you can see from the image below.

The before and after effects of cleaning the saucepan in a dishwasher.

Page 22: Great saucepan sets

Circulon Pans - Cons

The handle gets hot near the base of the skillet, although I have yet to burn myself with it.

You need to be slightly more careful when looking after these meyer pans. No scouring!

20cm is not very big so you can only do so much with a saucepan this size.

If I keep this up I might have to shock, horror, do more cooking!

Page 23: Great saucepan sets

My Rating : 9 out of 10 The Circulon Infinite 20cm skillet is a great pan that makes me believe that Circulon saucepans are worth purchasing. It’s a pleasure to use and makes cooking simple things like eggs a doddle. They make great saucepans for induction hobs. Like I said in the cons section, this is not a very big saucepan so what you can do with it is limited. I guess it’s time I invested in some more circulon pans!
