Grayslake Middle School Intramural Program Session 2 (Winter) December 5 th – February 22nd Dear Parents: At Grayslake Middle School, we believe that students learn best in a safe and nurturing environment where all students have the opportunity to participate. This school year, your child has the opportunity to participate in a variety of noncompetitive activities that will build your child’s academic and nonacademic interests and skills. Our intramural program will run in (3) three different sessions throughout the school year. A variety of courses will be offered during each session. Student interest and participation will determine the classes that we conduct. The attached forms provide course descriptions, dates and times, and other valuable information about the first (Fall) session of our intramural program. To make this program a complete success, we need your help! Please discuss the attached course descriptions with your child. If your child is interested in participating, please fill out the registration form and return it to his/her homeroom teacher no later than November 3rd. Dear Parents:

At Grayslake Middle School, we believe that students learn best in a safe andnurturing environment where all students have the opportunity to participate. Where: Grayslake Middle SchoolWhen: December 5th – February 22nd

Clubs will be offered after school from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday andThursday unless otherwise noted in the course description. A confirmation form willbe sent home with your child verifying your child’s enrollment in his/her selectedclub.

Registration: Registration forms will be accepted beginning Tuesday, October 31through Friday, November 3rd. REGISTRATION IS ON A FIRST COME, FIRSTSERVE BASIS. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO REGISTERBECAUSE THESE COURSES MAY FILL QUICKLY! Please turn registration formsinto your homeroom teacher.

Enrollment: Classes must meet a minimum enrollment (10 students). If this numberin not met, classes may be canceled. In this event, all registered participants will benotified as soon as possible and all registration fees will be returned. Furthermore,there will also be a maximum number of students that will be allowed to participate ineach course. Again, please be sure to turn in your registration forms as soon aspossible.

Transportation: There will not be a bus available to take your child home after his/herintramural club. You will be responsible for providing transportation for your child onthe days that he/she is participating in the intramural program. Please makearrangements for your child to be picked up promptly at the end of each class.

Cost: Most classes have a cost of $50 per student, per intramural session. Forexample, a class such as Newspaper and Yearbook Club will run for two intramuralsessions. Your child will again need to sign up for the second half of the club andalso pay a second $50 fee. Fees are due at the time of registration. Please lookclosely at each course description because some classes have different feeschedules.

Club Descriptions

Classes will meet in designated areas promptly after school. Classes run Tuesday andThursday from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted.

Club #1: Winter Crafts – Ms. Hauptly - (Wednesday & Friday)Min./Max. 10/30 students Materials fee: $35 Total fee: $85Do you like to sew? Paint? Create interesting projects? Do you like to makethings to give as holiday gifts? Or, would you like to learn how to do these things?If so, come join in the fun every Monday and Wednesday night after school until5:00 in room #173. We will be making at least 18 projects! You will be bringing

home something you have made every night that we meet!

Club #2: GMS Dancing with the Stars – Mrs. Van Laeke & Ms. Mansfield– (Tuesday & Thursday) Total fee: $100 Min./Max. 20/50 studentsInterest meeting: Tuesday December 12, 2006 @ 3:20**This Club will run 2 sessions…payment may be made in 2 payments, the 1st at thebeginning of this session and the 2nd may be made at the beginning of the SpringIntramural Session. Do you like to dance? Want to be the next GMS Dancing Stars?GMS Dance Team will introduce you to new dance steps. The Dance Team will create new dancesand perform them at assemblies and even the talent show! Perhaps there may be some dancecompetitions in the future as well! Costume uniform will consist of black shorts and white shirt.

Club #3: Dodgeball/Kickball – Mr. Ribordy (Tuesday and Thursday) Min./Max. 10/20 studentsCome release energy and exercise by participating in the great sport of dodgeball! If hanging out inthe gym, chucking balls at your peers and teachers sounds like fun, than dodgeball is where youbelong!

Club #4: Anime Club – Ms. Corey (Tuesday and Thursday) Min./Max. 10/30 studentsStudents will have the opportunity to learn all about anime! We will look atanime pictures, discuss the uses of anime, and learn how to draw anime! Thisis one you will not want to miss!!!!

Club #5: GMS Color Guard - Color Guard is the visual effects portion of a marchingband. They interpret the music through the use of show flags, ribbons, dance, and avariety of other equipment. There will be an interest only meeting Thursday,November 16th in the GMS Media Center, immediately after school.
