Although hippos are cute they are dangerous. Hippos have been around for 60million years. Hippos stay in the water and mud during the day to stay cool. At dusk they come out of the water to eat grass. They spend time eating grass up to 4 to 5 hours. They can eat 68kg of grass each night. Adult hippos move to a speed of up to 8km/h (5mph) in water. They surface and breathe ever 5 min even when they are asleep.
