Introduction
The identity of any organization or institution is established and/or strengthened, at least in part, by the appearance of its publications and by materials used in various presentations. Even the appearance of something as routine as a letter, helps create an image of the organization. A unified look is important. A consistent, clear appearance conveys a subtle message, one that says the organization is methodical, organized and systemic in its approach. Anything less can create the impression that the organization is disorganized, and not particularly concerned with quality.
This guide provides a model for the use of the CLIU #21 logo and production of effective communications in the most common formats used by the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit programs—-i.e., letters, bro-chures, business forms, and others. While it does not describe every pro-ject or situation you may encounter, a sufficient number of topics are cov-ered to provide a clear understanding of how CLIU #21 communications should appear.
Whatever the task, from writing something as simple and routine as a let-ter, to a project as complicated as a detailed series of special reports, follow the guide. By doing so, you will create a unified image of the CLIU #21. You will also help to strengthen awareness of our programs and services.

The first step toward developing an organization’s “personality” is to create basic mes-sages to be perpetuated in all communications with key audience segments. The descrip-tions will then be applied to all future communications defined herein, and all employ-ees must become emissaries for the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit through consistent depiction of the organization. In other words, everyone must use the messages in printed materials and be able to deliver the “elevator pitch.”
