PrintlayoutWhile with Leave a Mark, a small marketing and design firmlocated inWoodstock, NB, I had the opportunity to work onthe Canadian art magazine, Arabella. As the lead designer forthe issue, I worked closely with the owners, Debra and BrianUsher to ensure their standards were met for every page.

This was my first layout project of this magnitude and calibre.A rewarding experience where I learned a great deal inaddition to providing some process optimizations along theway.

Mobile AppDevelopmentIn 2015 the Conservation Council of NB wasattempting to launch a Buy Local applicationto assist the public in locating local foodproducts.

They were in a bind as the hired developerhad deserted the project and they needed aprototype to meet a funding deadline. Withlimited funds and limited time remaining, I wasable to provide a solution by using the Ionicframework to create a hybrid mobileapplication linked to a custom MySQLdatabase containing their data.

It was launched on Google Play for the fallseason as well as available as a web app viatheir website. All project funding requirementswere met before the deadline.

LogoDevelopmentI’ve had the opportunity to design several logos over theyears. Most were for small businesses with equally smallbudgets, so my goal is always to provide them the mostaffordable solution without the typical discovery andcreative process larger projects would demand.

My makeover of the LuminUltra logo done in 2014 is stillin use today, seen globally among their industrial andcorporate clients.

IndustrialDesignMymost significant project to date took nearly four years andshowcases my problem solving and self-directed learning abilities. Idesigned and developed the world’s first USB-powered andcontrolled portable luminometer for field use in industrialapplications. Put simply, it detects low levels of light. Very low. Downto single photons and then it counts them.

Describing the project would require a small booklet in terms ofproblems to overcome and learning outcomes. It was a project thatpushed me far beyond what I thought my capabilities were. Thedevice is still used today, sold globally and to my knowledge, highlysuccessful, representing a major portion of the company's revenue.

PrototypeDevelopmentA Nova Scotia Startup associated with my industrial designproject approached me to help themwith their idea – to allowusers of their carbonation system for craft breweries to beable to connect to the device via their mobile device. Thiswould allow them to see what was happening while awayfrom the brewery and log crucial data.

From my past experience, I was able to help the lead engineerput together an IoT solution utilizing off-the-shelf equipmentbased on Arduino technology. Within two weeks, we had afunctional prototype. Over the following year, it progressedinto a nearly production-ready product. I developed a webapplication, databases, user UI system, training materials, instructional video and marketing materials.

startupMarketingFor a time I was helping a fair number of startups at variousstages with their marketing materials in different forms.Whether prototyping their application in a PowerPointpresentation for investors, turning their product concept intoan illustration to make it more understandable, or a website.

The more interesting solution was for Trispectra, communicating to potential investors of how their power linemonitoring devices functioned. Taking their promotional videoshot using drones of power lines, I used animation software toillustrate their devices as beacons on the power linestransmitting from device to device. The short 10-second videolooped on the homepage. The theme was continued on thepages of the site by showing the same illustrations on photosof different transmission power lines.
