OUR STORY

Page 3: Grants for STEM Learning: Finding Resources for Your Program

Paige & Paxton leverage the power of storytelling

to introduce little learners to big concepts in STEM.

Page 4: Grants for STEM Learning: Finding Resources for Your Program

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

FOR KIDS FOR TEACHERS

FOR OUR NATION

80% of adults in STEM fields had at least one

parent in the field.

This means a huge number of our kids are missing out on opportunities that can

be life changing.

Early elementary teachers need time-saving resources

that enable them to make small shifts in their

classroom lessons now to drive STEM interest and create a STEM mindset.

We’re losing the battle. Thirty years ago, 40% of

the world’s scientists and engineers came from the

U.S. Today, it is 15%.

STEM fields are where the well paying jobs are and

will be in the global marketplace.

STEM GRANT RESOURCES

5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT GRANTS

Page 15: Grants for STEM Learning: Finding Resources for Your Program

1. Grants are intended to fund new projects, not supply new sources of dollars to cover existing expenses.

Page 16: Grants for STEM Learning: Finding Resources for Your Program

2. The average grant will take 4-8 weeks to complete.

Page 17: Grants for STEM Learning: Finding Resources for Your Program

Things to think about when creating a timeline: How complex is the narrative? What data is needed to support the project? How many forms and attachments are required? What budget requirements are given and how detailed?

3. Grant deadlines are not negotiable! Although the grantees timeline for response and distributing funds is always negotiable.

Page 19: Grants for STEM Learning: Finding Resources for Your Program

4. Creativity and sustainability will go a long way!

Page 20: Grants for STEM Learning: Finding Resources for Your Program

5. There is not a grant to fund everything… This isn’t a wish list! You can include related expenses that accompany the initiative but it’s never a guarantee.

Page 21: Grants for STEM Learning: Finding Resources for Your Program

The hardest and one of the most time consuming parts of

the grant process is the budget.

THE BUDGET

THE BUDGET: 6 TIPS TO PUT YOU AT EASEUse a Form1

3 Keep a Running Log

4 HR Department

5 Round Up

2 Use Real Numbers

6 Check & Check Again

If the RFP or Grant doesn’t require a form, create one! It’s the easiest way to stay organized and succinct throughout your application.

Don’t know how much an item cost? Look it up! Check with vendors directly, shop online, and verify.

As you work on your proposal, keep a running list of every cost that is associated with each activity. This includes salaries, equipment, supplies or consultant fees. This will also make writing your budget narrative a piece of cake!

Check and double check with your HR department for salary, benefit and new hire requirements. Is there a maximum amount per week of hours for hourly employees? What are the insurance requirements?

Round off to a whole number instead of using dollars and cents. It doesn’t hurt to have a little cushion.

Ask someone to review the math, grammar and layout!
