Overview Caring for Ageing Rural Australians (CARA) is a targeted small grant program that assists community based, not-for-profit groups in providing programs and activities that support older people in rural and remote Australia. Grants may range from $100 up to $10,000. Applications are invited from rural, regional and remote communities in Victoria, Queensland and the local government areas of Gilgandra/Warren, NSW. Rural, regional and remote areas have an ageing population, just like the rest of Australia. The difference however is that often there aren't the extensive facilities necessary to care for aged residents in their local communities. Fortunately this situation is changing over time, but greater investment is required to enhance, and in some cases create, these facilities. This collaborative program is administered by FRRR and supported by The Ian Rollo Currie Estate Foundation, the Sylvia & Charles Viertel Charitable Trust managed by Equity Trustees, Estate of the Late John William Fleming, The Carleton Family Charitable Trust, Estate Late Harold Gordon Jones, Perpetual Foundation – the Rural Enhancement Endowment, and private donors. Projects and activities that directly benefit older people by: Helping to redress disadvantage caused by remoteness. Enhancing aged care services and facilities. Building community capacity for age-friendly communities to confidently engage older people in the community through:

active living programs; community- based recreational, social, and physical activities that support good health and

alleviate social isolation; community leadership and volunteering opportunities that promote the skills and

knowledge of older people ; and/or intergenerational activities.
