StatementfromtheFamilyofAlexanderM.GrantRegardingAutopsyFindingsThisweek,aftermorethansixagonizingmonthssincehistragicandsenselessdeath,wehavereceivedandreviewedthefinalautopsyresultsofourbelovedson,AlexanderMaxwellGrant. Ourfamilyremainsheartbrokenathispassing,butarestrivingtocarryoninamannerwhichwearesurewouldbeconsistentwithhiswishes. Receivingandcomingtogripswiththecontentsoftheautopsyisofcourseanimportantcomponentofoureffortstoputourlivesbacktogether,and,inlightoftheinterestinourbroadcommunityaboutourtragedy,wewishtomakethefollowingstatements.First,wewanttoexpressourheartfeltthankstotheMedicalExaminerandOfficeoftheDistrictAttorneyofSaratogaCounty,fortheireffortsincompletingthisprocess. Itisourimpressionthatextraresourcesandfocuswererequiredontheirparttoensurethecompletenessandaccuracyofthereport,andwewantthemtoknowwearegratefulfortheseexertions. Perhapsmoreimportantly,wewishtoofferourcontinued,profoundgratitudetotheSaratogaSpringsPoliceDepartment,whichwebelievewentaboveandbeyondthecallofdutytotrytosaveAlex,andwhichhascontinuedtosupporttheGrantfamilytoalevelthatextendsbeyondourabilitytoexpress. Wecanonlyaddthattheyhavelightenedourburdenduringourdarkesthours,andthatwewillnotforgettheirprofessionalism,kindnessandhumanitytowardsusacrossthefulltimeperiodofourtragicordeal.Wealsowishtonotethatwefindsomesolaceinthefactthataccordingtotheautopsyreport,Alexwasnotundertheinfluenceofnarcoticsonthenightofhisdeath. This,ofcourse,isentirelyconsistentwithwhatweknewofourson,akind,intelligentandthoughtfulyoungman,astudentinthehonorsprogramatoneofthenationsleadinguniversities,whowascarefulinhisjudgments,andhighlypredisposedagainsttherecklessnessofexperimentationintheusageofchemicalnarcotics.Thatbeingsaid,theautopsyresultsfailtoanswerkeyquestionsastohowtheyoungmanwelovedsomuchcouldhavesustainedthestateofdisorientationthatcharacterizedhislastfewhoursonthisearth. Weviewitasoursolemnresponsibilitytodoeverythinginourpowertobetterunderstandthistragedy,andwillcontinueourlaborsinthisregardforaslongasittakestoobtaintheanswerstowhichweareentitled. WeremaindisappointedanddisheartenedthatsomeofthepeopleinvolvedinthistragedyhavenotcomeforwardwiththeinformationnecessaryforustounderstandwhathappenedtoAlexonthenightofMarch5,2011. Wecontinuetoimploretheseindividuals,and,indeedanyoneelsewhomayhavepertinentinformation,tocomeforwardtoeitherus,ortotheSaratogaSpringsPolicewithanyassistance,howeverseeminglysmall,thatmightbeusefultousinourquestforanswers.Beyondallofthis,wewishtothankourfamilyfriendsandcommunityatlargeforthesupporttheyhaveshown

us

during

our

period

of

unimaginable

loss

and

mourning.

and

prayers

have

meant
