AWARD-WINNING FAIRYTALE MUSICALTHE PERFECT CHRISTMAS TREAT FOR ALLTHE FAMILY

DIRECTED BY ROBERT READMANMUSICAL DIRECTOR ADAM LAIRD

Be careful what you wish for!

Sondheim and Lapine’s fabulous fractured fairytale is the perfect

family treat this Christmas. Pick Me Up Theatre are delighted to

perform this multi award-winning musical ahead of the 2015

Disney film starring Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp.

A Baker and his Wife venture into the woods on a quest to reverse

a curse laid on them by the Witch next door. Along the way they

encounter an ambivalent Cinderella, a greedy Little Red Riding

Hood, a tower bound Rapunzel with hair to die for, a too-trusting

Jack of Beanstalk fame, a couple of not-so-princely Princes, three

Little Pigs, two ravenous Wolves and the one and only Milky White

the cow, but will they all live ‘happily ever after’?

Based on Grimm’s fairytales, Into The Woods features some of

Stephen Sondheim’s most famous songs including Agony, Giants In

The Sky and Children Will Listen. Don’t miss this hilarious musical

from the company that brought you Ghost and Peter Pan.

‘A RIP-ROARINGCALAMITY JANE’NEWBURY WEEKLY NEWS

A BRAND NEW PRODUCTION OF THE CLASSIC MUSICAL

Following numerous highly acclaimed productions that include Sweeney

Todd and Sunset Boulevard, The Watermill Theatre returns with a new

production of the classic musical Calamity Jane. Starring Jodie Prenger

(Oliver!, Spamalot and One Man, Two Guvnors) alongside Tom Lister (The

Water Babies, Emmerdale) and a cast of multi talented actor musicians,

this brand new production gets to the heart and soul of the musical.

Calamity Jane can outrun and outshoot any man in Deadwood.

Hard, boastful and desperate to impress, she travels to Chicago on

the Deadwood Stage to recruit a star, Adelaid Adams. But things

don’t go too smoothly for Calamity, as everyone in town favours the

new girl and she struggles to keep her jealousy and pride in check.

It takes her long standing enemy Wild Bill Hickok to make her

see sense, and realise her Secret Love.

With an Oscar nominated score that includes The Black Hills of Dakota,

The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away), Just Blew in from the Windy City

and the award winning song Secret Love, don’t miss this new production

which blows into York for one week only.

gallops back out on tour to bring the West End

production to theatres across the land (to the sound

of banging coconut shells). Lovingly ripped off from the

classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail,

Spamalot is a kind-of-new musical with a book by Eric Idle

and an entirely new score for the new production (well,

almost), created by Eric Idle and John du Prez.

The latest tour, which is directed by

Christopher Luscombe, follows hot on the heels of

the can’t–believe-how-successful-it-was Monty Python

Reunion at The O2 and Eric Idle’s acclaimed performance of

Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life at the 2012 Olympic

Closing Ceremony - the world sang along, and Spamalot

audiences get the opportunity to do so too!

During the run, there have been 21 onstage moustache

incidents, three suspected cases of swine flu (French pigs!),

three outbreaks of nits and 92 pairs of coconuts.

THE WEST END’S FAVOURITECOMESTOYORK!

Loveable teen-dreamer Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big

hair and an even bigger heart who becomes the unexpected new

star of local TV dance programme, The Corny Collins Show,

much to the frustration of the show’s villainous

producer, Velma Von Tussle.

In a tale of teenage tantrums, triumphs and trials, the

backdrop for Hairspray is 1960s Baltimore, America, where

black is black and white is white and ‘pleasantly plump’ girls

certainly don’t dance on TV. Never shy of standing up for

what she believes in, Tracy launches a riotous campaign

to integrate The Corny Collins Show, making many

enemies and friends along the way.

With songs such as You Can’t Stop The Beat, Good Morning

Baltimore and Welcome to the Sixties; audiences are

sure to be mash-potato-ing all the way home.

DIRECT FROM ITS RECORD BREAKINGWEST END RUN

WRITTEN BY REGINALD ROSEDIRECTED BY CHRISTOPHER HAYDON

Following its record breaking West End run, this powerful new

production of Reginald Rose’s gripping courtroom thriller Twelve

Angry Men has been hailed as the ‘classiest, most intelligent drama

in the West End’. It brings to the stage the taut brilliance of the 1957

threetime Academy Award nominated film which starred Henry Fonda,

and is considered to be one of the great ‘must-see’ movies of all time.

A jury has murder on their minds and a life in their hands as they

decide the fate of a young delinquent accused of killing his father.

But what appears to be an open and shut case soon becomes a huge

dilemma as prejudices and preconceived ideas about the accused,

the trial and each other turn the tables every which way, until the

nail-biting climax.

Star casting to be announced.

A MAGICAL, MUSICALDELIGHT

Tall Stories’ magical musical stage adaptation

of Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson &

Axel Scheffler flies into town direct from

a smashing West End season!

How the cat purred and how the witch grinned,

As they sat on their broomstick and flew

through the wind

The witch and her cat are flying happily along on

their broomstick when a stormy wind blows the

witch’s hat, bow and wand away into the night.

A helpful dog, bird and frog find the witch’s lost

things and all hop on the broom for a ride. But

this broomstick’s not meant for five and –

CRACK! - it snaps in two! When a hungry dragon

appears, who will save the poor witch?

And will there ever be room on the broom for

everyone? Songs, laughs and scary fun for

children aged 3 and up (and their grown-ups).

‘A GUARANTEED CROWD-PLEASER’

Three programmes of exhilarating ballet in one evening,

featuring works by British greats Sir Frederick Ashton and

Sir Kenneth MacMillan, and an exciting new work by

Alexander Whitley.

Ashton’s Les Rendezvous is flirtatious and lighter than air,

an irresistibly charming showcase of pure dance technique.

Kin. by Alexander Whitley, is an athletic, abstract piece danced to

a pulsing, hypnotic score by Phil Kline. And in Elite Syncopations,

a dance hall bursts to colourful life with jazz syncopation and a whirl

of waltzes and cakewalks. One of MacMillan’s best-loved creations,

Elite Syncopations is flashy and laugh-out-loud funny. Birmingham

Royal Ballet’s live orchestra accompanies all three ballets.

RECENTLY VOTED THE NATION’S FAVOURITE PLAY

Called ‘one of the finest plays Alan Bennett has ever written’ by

The Daily Telegraph, The History Boys opened at the National Theatre

in 2004 to rave reviews and a sell out run and went on became one

of their biggest ever hits, winning over 30 major awards including the

Olivier and Tony Awards for Best New Play. In a recent national survey

this comic masterpiece was voted the nation’s favourite play.

Set in the 1980s, The History Boys is the story of a group of bright,

funny and unruly sixth formers in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at

university. Their maverick English teacher is at odds with the young

and shrewd supply teacher, whilst their headmaster is obsessed with

results and league tables. Staff room rivalry and the anarchy of

adolescence overflow, provoking insistent questions about history

and how you teach it. Their A Levels may be over, but their true

education is only just beginning.

This brand new production is an hilariously funny and exceptionally

moving play about the true purpose of education.

Alan Bennett’s numerous plays include Enjoy, The Madness of

George III, Single Spies, Talking Heads and The Lady in the Van.
