A message from our

Grand Knight

Veterans Day, which always falls on November 11, is

a day to honor our Veterans. Few of us realize the

history behind the day. Armistice Day marked the

end of hostilities of World War I that occurred at the

11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

Therefore, this day is always recognized on

November 11, regardless of the day of the week the

11th falls on. This day was originally set aside to

honor the Veterans of World War I with a day of

parades and remembrances as well as a pause in

activities at 11am on that day. In 1938, it was made a

legal federal holiday for all. After World War II and

the Korean War, Congress saw a need to expand the

meaning of the day to recognize all of our Veterans

and not just those of World War I. In 1954, the word

“Armistice” was replaced with “Veteran” as a way to

formally include all Veterans of all American wars in

the day of remembrance. Veterans Day is not only a

Federal holiday, it is a day to remember those who

died in service to our country and to also remember

those that continue to service our country. Let us

Honor all of our Veterans by hanging our American

Flag proudly. We, as Americans, are encouraged to

say thank you to those who fulfill their patriotic duty

to maintain the freedoms of our country. We as

Knights are called to help those less fortunate or

those in need, to fight for them. That's exactly what

we do, whether it's Special Olympics, our

seminarians, food pantries, our shut-ins, our youth,

our un-born...As the Holidays are fast approaching,

Patty and I would like to wish you and your family a

Happy Thanksgiving and let us not forget our

Veterans who served our country proudly, nor those

who are less fortunate.

God Bless and Vivat Jesus. Greg Kirchmeier, GK

Novena for our Country

October 30-November 7th

In preparation for Election Day, the Knights of

Columbus is calling all its members and all the

faithful to join together in a novena to the Holy

Trinity through the maternal intercession of the

Immaculate Conception, patroness of the United

States. Join your brother Knights around the

nation for this novena on Sunday October 30th

and concluding on Monday November 7th. The

prayer for the novena is attached. Our country is

in desperate need of prayer. Please spread the

word to all your brother Knights and their

families, as well as our pastor and fellow

parishioners to pray this National Novena for the

protection, well-being and freedom of our

country.

Thanksgiving Table Prayer O Gracious God, we give you thanks for

your overflowing generosity to us. Thank

you for the blessings of the food we eat

and especially for this feast today. Thank

you for our home and family and friends,

especially for the presence of those

gathered here. Thank you for our health,

our work and our play. Please send help

to those who are hungry, alone and sick

and suffering war and violence. Open our

hearts to your love. We ask your

blessings through Christ your son. Amen
