The woman who buys a sealskin coat buys well, for after the. coat has out- lived its usefulness much of the pdt may be cut Into strips for trimming a broadcloth suit. Fur Coats Shorter. There is a decided tendency toward Jauntlness and dash in the new seal- skin coats. The vogue for skating is responsible for this, and skating prom- ises to be more of a fad than ever through the coming winter season. The smart for ooat for a young wom- an reaches Just below the hips and is edged with fox or some other fluffy fur. A collarette of the fur enriches the neck and there may be cuffs of it also, though often cuffs are omitted, the muff of contrasting fur furnishing the proper note when the hands are tucked into It. These short seal coats are loose,- with loose sleeves, a belt usually drawn, the garment In at the waistline and there is a decided flare and ripple below. More stately'coats of sealskin and caracul fit the figure rather smoothly above the waistline and flare below, tlie waistline being raised a trifle at the back to give a long, sloping line from shoulder to knee. A. coat pf this sort, made of Hudson seal of soft, fine quality, has a flaring skirt edged with Belgian hare and a high, choker collar of the same fur. Buttons of hare, plaoed about four Inches apart at the back of the raised waistline, gave a very Bmart finish. The "long" fur coat does not cover the skirt, but swings four or five inch- es above its hem; and since all skirts are four or five inches from the ground, revealing the high-heeled hut- toned walking boot to advantage, the 'long" fur coats are really not very long, though the shortness of the skirt makee them appear so. Motor coats are of leopard, of muskrat, of heavy English wool mix- tures with fur lining and trimming. A new coat fabric called reindeer cloth Is admirable for warm motor coats. There arc also coats of pon- tine, a new waxed material with a reverse side of satin, cloth or velvet. These pontine coats for motoring and skating have collars and cuffs of skunk, beaver or Belgian hare, and are exceedingly chic. X muskrat coat is not graceful, hut even its clumsiness Is smart, for such a coat costs a sub- stantial sum, and there is nothing so warm and cosy for a wintry ride. BUY FURS Now at Summer Prices.
