GRAND COMMUNITY SUPPORT FROM GRAND MOTORS TOYOTA Community Service is a main agenda for this Southport Toyota dealership. Throughout the year Grand Motors have hosted a number of information sessions relating to driving and personal safety for motorists. In association with Queensland Police they have covered areas including general safety when motoring, women driving alone at night, dealing with “road rage” and general maintenance of a vehicle. Other sessions have been designed for young drivers gaining their first licence with displays from Emergency Service personnel, including accident awareness and what to do if you come across one. Being a community based radio station, 94.1FM has been able to support Grand Motors in promoting these events as part of our community service announcements. Last year Grand Motors and 94.1FM entered into an exciting sponsorship deal and we now have a brand new Rav4 to use as our sales and promotions vehicle. You’ll see us out and about on the Coast every day. This year once again Grand Motors has come to the party in supplying our Major Fundraiser Event Prize, a brand new Toyota Yaris. To go into the draw to win the car, you must be a member of the 94.1FM supporters group. Existing supporters of the station need to renew their yearly membership. To get 2 entries in the draw, you must renew before 29 th February to get the DOUBLE ENTRY. To become a new supporter or to renew your existing membership go to our website www.941fm.com.au and click on the Yaris. As an added incentive for every new person that you introduce to 94.1FM that signs up as a “new member” YOU will receive another BONUS entry. TRANSMITTER CONTROL

94.1fm wins macca award

best community radio program 2015

Hot on the heels of John Kerr winning his Gold Coast Media Club Award for Kerr’s Country, the station has now added another award to the list. Gary Field’s “Beatle Magical Musical Tour” won the 2015 award for the “Best Community Radio Program”. The show has been running for two years every Sunday night at 6pm. It highlights the Beatles as a group and as solo artists after the group split. The program also highlights the many albums they produced and the backroom stories of the production and management of the group. Gary said “Whilst I’m a big fan of all music and many other groups and artists, I really don’t believe so many shows, over 55 so far, could be produced from any other group or artist. The four Beatles were just so prolific in all genres of music producing a massive amount of material. But I’m a realist most of their music was brilliant but I also believe some was pretty out there.” Join Gary every Sunday at 6pm for a little bit of Beatle Mania

A lot of new technical equipment has arrived at the station. Our techs are busy designing a new heat transfer system for our transmitters and shortly we’ll be able to control our transmitters from the studio and even our I-phones. This means when a problem occurs, we can be anywhere in the world and still control our transmitter switching. We’ve also made technical advancements with the expansion of our internet streaming service. With internet costs getting cheaper, more people are choosing to listen to radio via the net. According to TUNE-IN figures 94.1FM is the 3rd most listened to Gold Coast station. Next step will be a new studio/production facility with equipment purchased from previous fundraisers.

94.1FM has the best disco in town every

Saturday night!

Out of hospital

Graham Webb spent most of the start of the year in hospital. Graham took ill just before Christmas but in typical Webby style he says “My time wasn’t up and I still have the grass under my feet.” Graham is back home being cared for by his sons. “Webby’s Golden Years Of Radio” was one of the first shows on 94.1FM and is still heard every Friday from 10pm after Kerr’s Country.

94.1FM LOCAL GIG A HUGE SUCCESS

As part of 94.1FMs community involvement, the idea to put together a locally produced show to feature local bands and singers was an obvious choice. 94.1FM’s LOCAL GIG is ticking all the boxes in promoting new Gold Coast music by local performers. We’re really lucky to have two great presenters in Karen and Stewy who are passionate about the local music scene and have been building up a loyal following ever since they hit the air waves. The guys get the musos to send in recordings and after its been approved as appropriate to go to air, they’re played during the show.

To date nearly 300 original recordings have been received with most of them making to air. Each week a song is chosen to become “Song Of The Week” which is then inserted into the 94.1FM daily playlist. “The variety and quality of the music is amazing.” According to Karen & Stewy who produce and present the show every Tuesday night at 7pm. Stewy and Karen produced a show which highlighted the Top 40 for 2015 which was a hit with all those involved and their Facebook response was fantastic. We all look forward to another great year of the Local Gig. Make sure you tune in next Tuesday at 7pm!

We know 94.1FM has a great range of listeners, who enjoy everything from country to rock ‘n’ roll, modern to classic hits….but we were very surprised to meet Roger Macaw. Roger and his owner Simone came in to the station to say hi and Ann-Marie did her best to interview him – you’d think he’d talk a lot but apparently he just likes to dance to the music and he just loves 94.1FM! Gary and Roger have a chat about whether the ‘Beatles’ are in fact the greatest band to ever exist although for the record – Roger’s favourite group is The Byrds.

If anyone has any idea where or when this photo of Gary Boughen and Rhonda Sharratt was taken, please let us know. They can’t remember! These guys have been around the radio and entertainment scene on the Gold Coast since the early days when 4GG was THE station to listen to.

Gary and Rhonda are the best of the best, and our audience has grown substantially since they joined us and became our breakfast and morning announcers respectively. Mornings on 94.1FM offer a relaxed style of entertainment that’s a bit of fun, weather and traffic updates and fantastic music - tune in weekdays from 5am.
