  • album, including Keith Frank, Corey Ledet, the Lost Bayou Ramblers, Willie Tee &Cypress, and “The Band Courtbouillon” project by Wayne Toups, Steve Riley andWilson Savoy.

Also, “Holy Ghost Power,” from Lafayette’s Mercy Brothers, is under consideration as anominee in the Americana category. New Orleans fiddler, singer and songwriter GinaForsyth’s “Promised Land” is vying for a best folk album nomination.

Papa Grows Funk recorded “Needle in the Groove” (http://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/2012/02/papa_grows_funk_gets_its_groov.html) withtwo well-known producers: Allen Toussaint and Better Than Ezra bassist TomDrummond, each of whom produced several songs on the album.

“We would like to thank the Recording Academy members for their consideration,”keyboardist/vocalist John “Papa” Gros said. “We love and admire the other bands inthis category, and this honor blows us away.”

Said Drummond, “With Allen and I each producing half of the songs, it is a uniqueproject and it is wonderful that “Needle in the Groove” is up for Grammy consideration.Papa Grows Funk is well-deserving of this kind of recognition.”

The Creole String Beans are thrilled that their well-received 2011 debut(http://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/2011/10/creole_string_beans_pull_on_th.html), “Shrimp Boots and Vintage Suits,”earned a slot on the nominees ballot. “We are honored and elated to be included in theGrammy conversation,” bassist Rob Savoy said. “To be mentioned in the same categorywith such Louisiana greats as the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Lost Bayou Ramblers, andKeith Frank is overwhelming.”

The String Beans CD, as well as Davis’ “It’s Not the Miles, It’s the Years,” Sanchez’s“Reclamation of the Pie-Eyed Piper” and the Honeypots’ “Something Sweet,” were allreleased by Threadhead Records, the non-profit label created by New Orleans musicfans to fund local recording projects.
