Open Day at GPS is over for another year. What an awesome day it was! Every single classroom across both campuses was overflowing with special visitors and our students were so proud to show off their school work. Visitors were treated to performances by our talented performing arts groups. Morning tea was lovely in the sunshine on our beautiful playground and we surprised our guests with a 638 voice strong impromptu song. It brought a tear to many eyes. All profits and donations from morning tea are being donated to the Cancer Council and the MND Foundation. Thankyou for your generosity, $736.60 was donated.

Education Week is always a special time at Grafton Public School both for our excited students who are keen to show off their work, and for our proud family members who love to visit.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service are soon holding their annual Chopper Day to raise essential funds

to keep this life-saving service running. Las week was Jeans for Genes Day to raise much-needed funds for

research into childhood diseases. Money goes to the Children’s Medical Research Institute to help

scientists discover treatment and cures to give every child the chance for a long and healthy life.

Annually in Term 3, we at GPS support these two important causes.

This Friday, 9 August, we ask all students Kinder to Year 6 to come dressed in a red and/or yellow

shirt and their jeans, and bring along a gold coin donation. All money raised will be split between the

Helicopter Service and the Children’s Research Institute.

MUFTI DAY FOR CHARITY

PREMIER’S SPELLING BEE

Congratulations to Charlie Rainbow, Vinh Coorey, Grace Kennedy and Poppy Ross, who have emerged

victorious in this year’s school edition of the Premier’s Spelling Bee. Competition was of a very high

standard, and the junior and senior events were both highly entertaining. These four master spellers will

now represent our school at the Regional Final to be held at Maclean Public School on the 5th of September.

HPV Central Every Friday morning, GPS conducts a Bike Bus, being supervised riding of bikes to school. A return home service also operates. The teachers accompanying the children take all reasonable care to ensure the safety of the children. Parents and carers are welcome to join us for the ride. Vital information to get you going: * Bike Bus operates every Friday (weather permitting) If you are new to Bike Bus check out the map below so you know where to meet the gang.

Please remember to LOCK UP your bicycle at school

HELPFUL TIPS

Where should I buy a bicycle??? There are many places from which a bicycle can be purchased; all have their benefits and of course pitfalls. The best way to determine where you buy a bike is to create a list of pros and cons for each option and then evaluate your list. Over the next couple of weeks I will help you with this list. Look at cost, your knowledge of bicycles, reliability, after sales service... Your options include: Your local bike shop, large retail store (Target, BigW, K Mart etc),

second hand, eBay etc. In the mean time get out and enjoy the cooler air and explore your local area on a bicycle.

STOP THE PRESS!!! Over the next two weeks Mr Avery will be giving out a $20

Grafton City Cycles voucher every day to someone who rides to school!!!
