Heritage Hotel Classification

• “Heritage Hotels” cover runing hotels in palaces/ castles/ forts/ havelis/ hunting loges/ residence of any size built prior to 1950.

• The facade, architectural features and general construction should have the distinctive qualities and ambience in keeping with traditional way of the area.

• If expansion/ renovation is done, the newly built up area added should not exceed 50% of the total built area including the old and new structures.

Classification of heritage hotels

• Heritage Basic- this category will cover hotel in residencies/ havelis/ hunting lodges/ castles/ forts/ palaces built prior to 1950. The hotel should have a minimum of 5 rooms (10 beds).

• Heritage Classic- this category will cover hotels in residences/ havelis/ hunting lodges/castles/ forts/ palaces built prior to 1935. The hotel should have a minimum of 15 rooms(30 beds).

• Heritage Grand- this category will cover hotels in residences/havelis/hunting lodges/ castles/ forts/ palaces built prior to 1935.the hotel should have minimum of 15 rooms (30 beds)

Special Features

• Heritage Basic- general features and ambience should confirm to the overall concept of heritage and architectural distinctiveness.

• Heritage Classic- The hotel should provide at least 1 of the sporting facilities.

• Heritage Grand- all public and private areas including rooms should have superior appearance and décor. At least 50% of the rooms should be Air conditioned.

• Basic- The hotel should offer traditional cuisine of the area.

• Classic- The hotel should offer traditional cuisine but should have 4-5 item which have close approximation to continental cuisine

• Grand- the hotel should offer traditional an continental cuisine.

Management

• The hotel may be managed and run by the owning family and/or professional.

General features

• There should be adequate parking space for cars.• All public rooms and areas and the guest rooms

should be well maintained and well equipped with quality carpets/ area rugs/ good quality duries, furniture, fittings, etc.

• The guest rooms should be clean, airy, pest fre without dampness and musty odour and of reasonably large size with attached bathrooms with modern facilities.

• Reception, cash and information counter• Money changing facilities • The kitchen and pantry should be

professionally designed• There must be 3 tier washing system with cold

and hot water, hygienic garbage disposa arrangements.

PROCESS OF CLASSIFICATION

• HRACC inspects and assesses the hotels based on the facilities and services offered.

APPLICATIONS FOR PROJECT APPROVALS• Applications for project approvals under 4 & star

category as well as heritage category along with the requisite fee should be sent to

MEMBER SECRETARY(HRACC) HOTEL AND RESTAURANTS MINISTRY OF TOURISM

• Applications for project approvals under 1,2& 3 star categories along with requisite fee should be sent to REGIONAL OFFICES.

• Operating hotels may opt for classification at nay stage. While hotels seeking re-classification should apply for it for atleast six months prior to the expiry of current period of classification.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DOCUMENTATION

• Name of the hotel.• Name of the owner/promoter with a note on their

business antecedent in not more than 60 words.• Complete postal address of the hotel with

telephone,fax and email.• Address• Status of the owner/promoter.• Date on which the hotel became operational.• Details of hotel site with postal address and distance (in

kms.) for 1. AIRPOT 2. RAILWAY STATION 3. CITY CENTRE

• Upon receipt of application complete in all respects, the hotel will be inspected by a classification committee which will be constituted as follows :

A. For 4,5, and Heritage Category - Additional Director General, Govt. of India - Chaired Person ( HRACC ) - Representative from FHRAI - Representative from HAI - Representative from IATO - Representative from TAAI - Principle Institute of Hotel Management - Member Secretary HRACC - In case of Heritage Category , a representative of India Heritage Hotels Association IHHA

• The recommendations will be sent to HRACC Division(Ministry of Tourism.Govt of India) within 5 working days and the recommendation of the the HRACC inspection committee will be approved by the Chairperson HRACC.

• Any changes in the plans or management of the hotel should be informed to the HRACC,Ministry of Tourism,Govt of India within 30 days otherwise the classification will stand terminated.

• Classification will be valid for a period of 5 years from the date of approval of chairman HRACC.
