SECTION A - READING
Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow: 12
Servants of People
1. The Father of the Nation wanted ministers and bureaucrats of the new independent India
not to live as „Sahibs‟
2. This is evidence from Gandhiji‟s allusion to the ministers of Bengal when they came to
pay their respects to him on August 15, 1947.
3. He said, „Today you have worn on your head a crown of thorns. The seat of power is a
nasty thing. You have to remain ever wakeful on that seat. You have to be more non-
violent, more humble and more for bearing. You had been put to test during the British
regime. But in a way it was no test at all. But now there will be no end to your being
tested. Do not fall a prey to lure of wealth. May God help you. You are there to serve the
villages and the poor.‟
4. The emphasis on serving the people had always been the cornerstone of Gandhiji's
utterances on the role of public men. These days when the word „public servant‟ is used
so freely, it may be apt to recall Gandhiji‟s concept of the term. In fact, he said in clear
terms in The Harijan of January 12, 1942, „Legislators are not the masters, but the
servants of their electors- the nation‟.
5. Such a public servant or public worker, according to Gandhiji, should place the country
above him and should reduce himself to a „cypher‟. He can have no pride, no power, no
prestige except such as his service gives him.
6. As for their private lives, they should be so simple as to inspire respect or reverence
rather than provide material for tabloids; „An Indian minister or Governor should use as
far as possible only Indian-made goods- bungalows and motor cars should be ruled out.
Of course, if he has to go far on an urgent business, he should certainly use a car, but its
use should be definitely very limited- he should give one hour to productive physical
labour….Members of his family, including children should do all household work
themselves. Servants should be used as sparingly as possible.‟ says Gandhiji.
7. Today, there is a growing demand for greater transparency in spending of money by
political parties and auditing of party accounts, as also the incessant demand for
disclosure of all assets of all candidates standing for elections.
8. It is ironical that such demands be made in the country of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji was
meticulous in keeping accounts and in making these accounts public. Public money
belongs to the poor public of India- there is none poorer on earth. Carefully kept accounts
are in sine qua non for any organization. If we do not account for every single paisa we
receive and do not make a judicious account of the funds, we shall deserve to be blotted
out of public life.
9. Writing in Young India on August 20, 1928, he said, „The safety of the public fund lies
more even in an intelligent vigilance of the public than in the strict integrity of those who
are in charge of funds. Absolute honesty of the trustees is a necessity, but public inertia is
a crime.‟
10. With regard to spending of public money, Gandhiji always exhorted his workers to be as
miserly as he himself was and not become lax or extravagant simply because the money
was not their own! Also he said, „We must learn to make our expenditure commensurate
with our national resources, not with what generous donors may give us.‟
11. Wasteful extravagant expenditure, such as reception committees often indulge in,
amounted to „criminal misappropriation‟ of funds and he laid down a certain conduct and
code: recruit a few volunteers, minimize motor hire for local purpose, maintain separate
account for those who bear their own expenses and collect the same from them, reduce
printing costs, „purse‟ money not be spent on decoration and no addresses be presented
out of „purse‟.
12. He asked the organizers of his tours in provinces to be simple and economical in catering
for the party. He admitted, „I know that of my party I am the costliest member to feed but
let my hosts not ponder on my weakness, by importing, tempting superfluities.‟ Public
men were only trustees of the public and they should not abuse the trust reposed in them
by using the money for personal use.
13. Gandhiji was perhaps the only political leader who owned no property or had no bank
account of his own. Asked how he bore his expenses, he had said, „I draw nothing from
the AICC or Gujarat Committee. Friends fund my travelling expenses including food and
clothing. My hosts cover me with kind attention. People present me with much more
khaddar than I need. The balance goes to clothe those who need it or is put in the general
khaddar stock in Khadi Bhandars.‟

2.1 Read the passage given below: 8
The word „depressed‟ in common usage means sad, frustrated, fed up, bored up and
pessimistic. The mood of a depressed person is much lower at his or her best moments than
the mood of the normal person at his or her worst. Depression is a state of mind. It is
specifically a mental disorder characterized by a lowering of the individual‟s vitality, his
mood, desires, hopes, aspirations and of his self-esteem.
Depression arising out of environmental factors is called reactive depression whereas
depression arising out of some biochemical changes in the brain is called endogenous
depression. If depression is mild or moderate and if the individual is in touch with his
surroundings, it is known as neurotic depression. If the individual is severely disturbed and is
not able to comprehend what is happening around, such a state is called psychotic depression.
At present, social structures and values are undergoing transformation from traditional to
modern. There is a rapid stride in urbanization and industrialization leading to the breaking
up of joint families and property. This has ultimately weakened the traditional families, social
position and status of the aged in the family. From time to time changes in the institutions of
marriage and family have diminished the control of parents over their children. It has
increased the freedom of children and they view the aged as a useless and non-productive
entity. Modernization has eventually led to the degradation of their status and authority.
Consequently the integrity of the family and the existence of the elderly as an integral part of
the family are being uprooted. The importance of their functional positions thus declines and
consequently their authority and much of the respect and prestige that they enjoyed earlier get
faded. These changes generally bring about depression in older people.
As old age advances events at home may also contribute more to their problems. The„empty
nest‟ feeling arising as a result of the grown up children leaving the home, daughters
departing as a result of wedlock and sons leaving station in pursuit of higher education or
jobs may make the aged more lonely. The loneliness also arises because of premature loss of
spouse. This would deprive the person of a long standing emotional bond that had provided
plenty of emotional succour and security. The loss wherever it might occur in the later years
leaves the individual terribly lonely and at the mercy of the sons and daughters-in-law. Added
to these the increasing gap and interactional stress and strain in the family may leave the
elderly without peace of mind. The elderly as a result of these developments feel
marginalised, alienated and left out of the main stream. The foregoing are the common
problems faced by most of the elderly. These either directly or indirectly lead to a state of
depression and make ageing for many an unwanted and unpleasant event to be abhorred.
Usually, the mild depression which is caused due to environmental factors is temporary. The
person reconciles within a short time and tries to forget the loss. Kind words, and timely
support of friends, relatives and family members help one recover from depression.

3. a) What is a tuple? How is a tuple different from a list? (3)
A tuple is an immutable sequence. It is represented by () Where as a list is mutable. It is written in [] (1) A tuple is used when there is no chance of changing the data. T=(1,2,3) l=[5,6,7] T[0]=4 l[0]=0 is valid (1) T=T+(4,) will create a new object of T, old T is inaccesible now. In a list, such an operation will not create a new list object. i) Finding the ascii code of a character. - ord() (1/2) ii) To make the first letter capitalized. <string>/capitalize() (1/2)
d) Explain the role of linker and loader in compilation of a program. (2)
Linker – Object code of the program that reaches the linker is a bianry. Still the system cannot execute it because some important libraries needs to be linked to run the program successfully.Linker links the libraries to the object code with the help of OS. (1) Loader is part of the compiler that loads the entire program(source code+libraries) into the memory for execution. (1)
4. a) What is the difference between del and pop()? Give an example of each. (2) - Both statement can be used with lists, dictionaries (1/2) - del will not return the value, where as pop will return the value that is deleted (1/2) - del can delete whole object where as pop() deletes an element (1/2)
4
l=[3,4,5,6] l.pop() - returns 6 and deletes 6 from the list (1/2) del l – deletes the whole list, del l[2] will delete 5, without returning.
b) Write a program to find the sum of the following geometric series for n terms: s= a + ar + ar^2 + ar^3 + ......+ar^n (3) import math a=float(input(“Enter the value”)) n=int(input(“No: of terms:”)) r=float(input(“Enter the value”)) sum=0 (1/2) for i in range(n+1): (1/2) term=a*math.pow(r,i) (1/2) sum+=term (1/2) print(“Sum of the given series is “, sum) (1)

When vehicles go through turnings, they travel along a nearly circular arc. There
must be some force which will produce the required acceleration. If the vehicles
go in a horizontal circular path, this resultant force is also horizontal. Consider
the situation in which a car of weight mg is moving on a horizontal circular road
of radius r with a constant velocity v.
The external forces acting on the car are

friction Fs
The tires have a tendency to slip outwards. Hence, the frictional forces act
towards the center. Thus, for a safe turn we must have
However, there is a limit to the magnitude of the frictional force. If µ S is the
coefficient of friction between the tires and the road, the magnitude of friction
cannot exceed µ S R. We know that

23. Conservative Force: A force is said to be conservative if the work done by the
force (or against the force) in moving a body depends only upon the initial and
final positions of the body and is independent of the path followed between the
initial and final positions.
The gravitational force is a conservative force.
Non conservative Forces: A force is said to be non-conservative, if the work
done by the force, or against the force, in moving a body from one position to
another, depends upon the path followed between the two positions.
The best example for the non-conservative force is friction.

24. Law of conservation of energy states that the energy can neither be created nor
destroyed but can be transformed from one form to another.
Let us now prove that the above law holds good in the case of a freely falling
body.
Let a body of mass 'm' placed at a height 'h' above the ground, start falling down
from rest.
In this case we have to show that the total energy (potential energy + kinetic
energy) of the body A, B and C remains constant i.e, potential energy is
completely transformed into kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy = 0 [the velocity is zero as the object is initially at rest]
Total energy at A = Potential energy + Kinetic energy.
Total energy at A = mgh …1
At B,
Potential energy = mgh
= mg(h - x) [Height from the ground is (h-x)]
Potential energy = mgh - mgx
Kinetic energy = ½ mv2
The body covers the distance x with a velocity v. We make use of the third
equation of motion to obtain velocity of the body.
Here, u=0, a=g and s=x
1 ½ ½
Kinetic energy = mgx
Total energy at B = Potential energy + Kinetic energy
Total energy at B = mgh …2
At C,
Potential energy = m x g x 0
Potential energy = 0
Kinetic energy = ½ mv2
The freely falling body has covered the distance h.
Here, u=0, a=g and s=h
Kinetic energy = ½ mv2
Kinetic energy = mgh
Total energy at C = Potential energy + Kinetic energy
½ ½
Total energy at C = mgh …3
It is clear from equations 1, 2 and 3 that the total energy of the body remains
constant at every point. Thus, we conclude that law of conservation of energy
holds good in the case of a freely falling body.
25. Elastic and Inelastic Collisions. A perfectly elastic collision is defined as one in which there is no loss of kinetic energy in the collision. ... Momentum is conserved in inelastic collisions, but one cannot track the kinetic energy through the collision since some of it is converted to other forms of energy.

27. All gases are made up of molecules which are constantly and persistently
moving in random directions.
The separation between the molecules is much greater than the size of
molecules.
When a gas sample is kept in a container, the molecules of the sample do
not exert any force on the walls of the container during the collision.
The time interval of collision between two molecules, and between a
molecule and the wall is considered to be very small.
All the collisions between molecules and even between molecules and
wall are considered to be elastic.
½ ½ ½ ½ ½ ½
All the molecules in a certain gas sample obey Newton’s laws of motion.
If a gas sample is left for a sufficient time, it eventually comes to a steady
state. The density of molecules and the distribution of molecules are
independent of position, distance and time.

PAINTING
1. The Konark temple was built in the form of a huge and colossal chariot drawn by a team of
seven horses depicted in the galloping mode. The entire temple was fitted with twelve pairs
of exquisitely decorated stone wheels. The horses were conceived in such a way that the Sun
God (Surya) himself drives this chariot, his place being inside the garbhagriha. The Konark
temple also marks the culmination of the temple building architecture in Orissa. Dedicated
to Sun God (Surya) 24 Chakras are seen around the entire structure which denotes the 24
hours of the day (time) and eight spokes within denote the eight fold path or the teachings
of Buddha. It got the name Black Pagoda by the Britishers due to its color and the view one
gets from the sea.
The humble beginning made in temple building activities in the 7th century A.D. The temple
consists of a deul (sanctum sanctorum or the sanctuary), antarala jagmohana (porch or the
mahamandapa) and a bhoga-mandapa, the latter being detached from the main temple
complex as a separate unit, but along the same alignment with the main temple. it stands on
a huge platform, the sidewalls of the platform utilised for the depiction of the richly
embellished stone chariots. The deul is a typical rekhadeula of the Orissan order marked by
the curvilinear sikhara, which could have originally marked with the typical karma-amalakas.
The jagmohana (frontal porch, mahamandapa) is the typical pidhadeul with receding pidhas
resembling a pyramidal roof. Both the rekha and pidhadeuls were crowned by amalaka and
a stupi. The rekha and pidhadeuls are square on plan inside, while the outside is a typical
example of a pancha-ratha structure known as rathas or pagas in Orissan architecture. Main
Extra information - (Temple Complex The temple complex consists of the Temple 1 (main
temple complex), Temple 2 (Mayadevi Temple), Temple 3 (Vaishnava Temple) and many
other subsidiary structures like the gateway, well, kitchen, enclosure wall, etc. the entire
temple was conceived as a huge and colossal chariot drawn by seven horses (three on the
northern side and four on the southern side) over twelve pairs of stone wheels. The twelve
wheels may symbolise the twelve months of the year. The grihas which are depicted include
that of Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Mangala (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Brihaspati (Jupiter),
Sukra (Venus) and Sani (Saturn). The Rahu and Ketu are also depicted nearby.)
2. Indo Islamic architecture and its influence - the introduction of arches and beams, the
arcuate style of construction while the traditional Indian building style is trabeate, using
pillars and beams and lintels. The early buildings of the Slave dynasty did not employ true
Islamic building styles and consisted of false domes and false arches. Later, the introduction
of true arches and true domes start to appear, the earliest example is the Alai Darwaza by
the side of QutbMinar. The different religious beliefs are reflected in the mode of
construction and architectural styles. The Islamic style also incorporated many elements
from the traditional Indian style and a compound style emanated. The introduction of
decorative brackets, balconies, pendentive decorations, etc in the architecture is an example
in this regard. The other distinguishing features of Indo-Islamic architecture are the
utilisation of kiosks (chhatris), tall towers (minars) and halfdomed double portals. The
buildings and other edifices were generally decorated richly in geometrical and arabesque
designs. These designs were carved on stone in low relief, cut on plaster, painted or inlaid.
The use of lime as mortar was also a major element distinct from the traditional building
style.
The tomb architecture: The tomb architecture consisted of a domed chamber (hujra), a
cenotaph in its centre with a mihrab on the western wall and the real grave in the underground
chamber. The Mughals added gardens all around the tomb. The Mughal tombs are generally
placed at the centre of a huge garden complex, the latter being sub-divided into square
compartments, the style is known as char-bagh. The Mughals also built large gardens in various
levels and terraces on the char-bagh pattern. They also introduced the double dome system of
dome architecture and the pietra-dura style of inlay decorations. Indo-Islamic architecture into
three broad classes consisting of monuments erected under patronage of the Sultans such as
Qutubudd in Aibak, monuments erected by governors of independent provinces, and landmark
construction of the Mughals. It was around 610 AD that the prophet Muhammad (c. 570 -632)
heard God's message for the first time in Arabia, in the city of Makka. His teachings disseminated
rapidly as Islam grew into a world religion ruling from Spain to the Central Asia by the 8th
century. Its essence is that God is one and every person is equal before God. As Muslims
worshipped with prostrations before God five times a day It was in 1206 that Islamic political
power was established in India for the first time, by Kutb al-Din Aibak. After that, five dynasties
appeared in succession in Delhi and the kings named themselves Sultans of Delhi, so those
dynasties are called 'Delhi Sultanate' as a whole. Their governing people were Turkish or Afghan
nations, but culturally Persia had been ruling Central Asia from Iran, Islamic architecture brought
to India was Persian Islamic architecture too.
THREE CATEGORIES of ARCHITECTURE
At the end of the 12th century when the first Indian mosque was to be constructed in Delhi, India
had been developing stone construction for thousands of years and its technology and aesthetics
had almost reached the stage of perfection. Their religious backgrounds were Buddhism in ancient
times, Hinduism and Jainism in the medieval period. As they were born in the same region and grew
under the same climate, they did not have architectural differences basically. However, Islamic
architecture had grown under a completely different civilization and was alien architecture to India,
having principles and sense of beauty totally different from Indian traditional architecture.
’Sculptural architecture' treats buildings as massive objects and elaborates their sculptural effect as
architectural expression. As seen in temples in Khajuraho, not only are their walls completely
covered with statues of Gods and other sculptures but also the building itself is regarded as an
enormous sculpture as a whole. Their interior spaces are quite narrow and inferior as compared with
its majestic exterior. 'Membranous architecture' or 'Enclosing architecture' that to the contrary
emphasizes their interior spaces or courtyards above all and relegates their exterior forms to second
place. It is represented by Islamic architecture, well-regulated composition and ornament in
geometric order and worship halls as magnificent interior spaces. 'Framework architecture' or
'Trabeated architecture' that consists of a post-and beam frame and its upper roof, not necessarily
requiring demarcation of space with walls. Inside and outside spaces become continuous as a result
of the lack of walls, and its sculptural effect of an exterior form is not so strong. Sculptural
architecture was the first category and membranous architecture as the second category conflicted
with and influenced each other through trial and error. Here Islamic architecture brought from
Persia would transfigure with Indianisation
WOODEN versus MASONRY PRINCIPLES : Wooden architecture was the mainstream for the
ancient India. As wood decreased monumental edifices came to be constructed of stone.
Indians had been totally involved in the trabeated structure and the aesthetics of wood
continued to persist in trabeation, that is to compose buildings with the post and beam
method, treating stone as if it were wood. Since stone is strong against a compressive force
but weak against a tensile force, it is not suitable to be used as a horizontal structural
member (beam and lintel). Indians persisted in the trabeated structure, eventually ended up
with the development of enormous temples. However they could not build a large span of
interior space with that techniques, having to stand many columns like a grove in large halls.
On the other hand, since there was little wood in the Middle East from its inception, they
erected buildings of brick or stone, inventing the masonry structure of arch and dome since
early in the ancient age. The arch is a device to stride a large span by stacking stone pieces
(voussoir) radially along a circular arc, with which one can cover a large hall of dozens of
meters in diameter without columns. Islamic architecture born in the Middle East made
possible the erection of all kind of buildings in the membranous way freely using that
principle of arch and dome.
Quwwat Ul-Islam Mosque in Delhi, India
The first mosque in India, Quwwat al-Islam Mosque in Delhi, was also built as a series of
arches and domes. But Indian craftsmen who did not know the principles of true arch and
true dome and how to construct them used another method of corbelling, which is to pile up
ashlars horizontally, making progressively higher protruding layers. Consequently, most of
those unstable corbelled arches and domes have collapsed, leaving a few arches and
cloisters constructed in a traditional Indian manner intact up to the pre-set. Indian architects
and craftsmen though gradually became versed in the techniques of true arch and dome,
and consequently built mosques, madrasas (schools), palaces, and caravanserais, using them
freely. At long last they were able to realize an outstanding piece of 'membranous
architecture' as a dome structure in diameter of as large as 38m without even one column.
ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE under THE MUGHALS During the ages of Delhi Sultanate, enough of
the construction techniques of Islamic architecture were transplanted to India even though
some of the roughness remained. Indian Islamic architecture would reach the summit in the
era of the Mughal dynasty from the 16th to 17th centuries. Its first realization was the
Mausoleum of Humayun, the second emperor, which became the prototype of tomb
architecture for subsequent Mughals. Its formation is such that in the center of a huge
'Charbagh' (four quartered garden) a large square platform is built, on which a mausoleum
with identical facades for its four sides
Jami Masjid (Friday Mosque) in Delhi stands symbolically and is capped with a large dome of white
marble. Persian architecture inherited 'Iwan' from ancient palace architecture as a square shape
framing a large arch opening, inside of which is vaulted half-exterior space, and Persian mosques
have four iwans facing each other around a courtyard, that is the form of 'Four Iwans. 'Indians who
loved 'Sculptural architecture,' developed extroverted building in order to enlarge sculptural effects,
settling those four iwans facing in opposite directions, back to back, and covering the central space
with a symbolic dome. This form is more suitable for mausoleums than mosques and it reached the
peak at the magnificent Taj Mahal in Agra. Akbar tried to merge Indian tradition with Islamic
architecture. For buildings in Fatehpur Sikri he constructed as a new capital and his own mausoleum
at Sikandra, he seldom used arches and domes and deliberately used traditional posts and beams in
spite of being Islamic architecture. A pavilion in Fatehpur Sikri protruding even stone slab eaves
protecting against the rainy season looks as if it were wooden structure. Akbar's Tomb at Sikandra
and a Chatri in the Taj Mahal precinct
As for Akbar's mausoleum at Sikandra, it became an unprecedented unique Islamic building, posts
and beams which were stacked up like a four-storied junglegym as 'Framework architecture' on a
high-rise platform. Its components are 'Chatri' (a turret with an apparently heavy roof supported
with four columns. This came to be used as an ornamental element for all sorts of buildings. It is
these chatris that make the strongest impression in the Indo-Islamic architecture. Even in the age of
Shah Jahan who made his buildings revert to Persian style, chatris continued to indicate that the
structures were still following Indian architecture.
3. Ajanta and Ellora are the highest form of cave temple constructions if the ancient India. It was
not only famous for its structural beauty but also the relief sculptures and the fresoe paintings

is the largest structure among all and the
Ajanta site in western India. It is located in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra.
It has 29 caves, including 4 chaitya caves.
It has the large Chaitya-Vihara and is decorated with sculpture and paintings (murals).

Vihara caves here are unfinished. The important patrons of Ajanta were Varahadeva,
Major paintings are in cave Nos. 1, 2, 16 and 17. Paintings have a lot of typological variations. Figures
in the paintings are heavy like the sculptures of western India.
Cave excavation and painting were a simultaneous process and dating of the paintings follows the
date of the cave excavation.
Almost in all the finished excavations, pictures have been painted, but very few have survived.
Various skin colours in the paintings represent multi-coloured society.
The themes of the paintings are events from the life of Buddha, the Jatakas and Avadanas.
Events happened in the jungle and events happened in the palace are separated by their locations.
Images of Padmapani and Vajrapani are very common in Ajanta.

Pillar designs grow from Buddhist caves and when they reach Jain caves (9th century CE), they
become very ornate and the decorative forms gain heavy protrusion.
Most of the caves of Brahamanical faith are dedicated to Shaivism.
The different avatars of Vishnu are also depicted here.
Cave no.16 is known as Kailas Leni or Kailasa temple.

east entrance (right door) middle courtyard connecting the east-end cave (left door). The
main cave, also called the Shiva cave, Cave 1, or the Great Cave, is 27 metres (89ft) square in
plan with a hall (mandapa). At the entrance are four doors, with three open porticoes and an
aisle at the back. Pillars, six in each row, divide the hall into a series of smaller chambers. The
roof of the hall has concealed beams supported by stone columns joined together by
capitals. The cave entrance is aligned with the north–south axis, unusual for a Shiva shrine
(normally east–west). The northern entrance to the cave, which has
1,000 steep steps, is flanked by two panels of Shiva dated to the Gupta period. The left panel
depicts Yogishvara (The Lord of Yoga) and the right shows Nataraja (Shiva as the Lord of
Dance). The central Shiva shrine is a Smaller shrines are located at the east and west ends of
the caves. The eastern sanctuary serves ceremonial entrance. Each wall has large carvings of
Shiva, each more than 5 metres (16 ft) in height. The central Shiva relief Trimurti is located
on the south wall and is flanked by Ardhanarisvara (a half-man, half-woman representation
of Shiva) on its left and Gangadhara to its right, which denotes the River Ganges descent

Extra Information - (Other carvings related to the legend of Shiva are also seen in the main
hall at strategic locations in exclusive cubicles; these include Kalyanasundaramurti, depicting
Shiva's marriage to the Goddess Parvati, Andhakasuravadamurti or Andhaka-suramardana,
the slaying of the demon Andhaka by Shiva, Shiva-Parvati on Mount Kailash (the abode of
Shiva), and Ravananugraha, depicting the demonking Ravana shaking Kailash. The main cave

and square pillars with custom capitals with Gupta artistic characteristics, like the depiction
of mountains and clouds and female hairstyles.)
5. The structure is composed of a cube, 47.5 metres (156ft) on each side, capped by a dome 44
m (144ft) in external diameter. "Eight intersecting arches created by two rotated squares
that create interlocking pendentives" support the dome. At each of the four corners of the
cube, is a dome-capped octagonal tower seven stories high with a staircase inside. The
upper floor of each opens on to a round gallery which surrounds the dome. Inside the
mausoleum hall, is a square podium with steps on each side. In the middle of the podium, a
cenotaph slab on the ground marks the actual grave below, "the only instance of this
practice" in the architecture of the AdilShahi Dynasty. In the middle of the north side, "a
large semi-octagonal bay" protrudes out. With an area of 1,700m2(18,000sqft) the
mausoleum has one of the biggest single chamber spaces in the world. Running around the
inside of the dome is the "Whispering Gallery" where even the softest sound can be heard
on the other side of the mausoleum due to the acoustics of the space.
