Special Assembly

Students of Grade III of Shalom Hills International School put up a special assembly before their parents in

the spacious school auditorium on 16 th

May‟13. The assembly was a fore-runner to the thematic assemblies

which will be presented by each class turn wise throughout the year. The children enthralled their parents

and teachers alike with their delightful performances as they spoke, danced, sang or emoted to their best

ability and more importantly, to their heart‟s content.

The cultural extravanganza on the theme of „Our dream of a green world‟ was a specially conceived

platform for each and every student of Grade III to come centre stage and share through evocative

dance sequels their vision of making our Mother Earth green and robust again. The school‟s choir group paid

reverence to God through stirring prayer songs; there was a special song aptly titled „Save Energy‟ on the

theme of the day‟s programme. Loud cheering and clapping reverberated across the hall when the gathering

was shown a presentation on the school‟s recent successes and glories particularly Shalom Hills being

adjudged as the Best School, Best Progressive School, Best School in Innovation and Mentorship as well as

making to the elite 100 best schools of India. Ms. Sara Noorana, the school principal revealed how the school

had been personally hand-picked by Cambridge University, England and enjoys the distinction of being the

only school in India to feature in its Guide to Excellence 2013 edition.

The special assembly began on a high note with a soul-stirring dance sequel, „I have a dream.‟ The parents

were immeasurably moved when 5-6 speakers shared with the audience their youthful yet big dreams of

a united world; a world green and blue; a world where all children live, learn and love like the proud

Shalomites do. An immensely affecting message was given out by the children about the power of prayers.

Through an emotive prayer dance, the talented Shalom juniors displayed their school‟s belief in prayer and

how they are taught the importance of seeking God‟s blessings. Emphatic speeches and powerful poems on

„Deforestation‟ and „Shalom efforts to greenify‟ the city‟ added an extra depth and dimension to the

assembly. The entrancing programme drew to a close with the grand finale and Shalom prayer.

POSTER MAKING COMPETITION AND ENVIRONMENT BASED

GAMES MARK THE 2nd DAY OF ENVIRONMENT WEEK

CELEBRATION IN SHALOM HILLS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

A Poster Creation Competitions was organized for Classes VI-VII & IX-XI on 20th April‟12 as a way to alert the

children about the myriad problems ailing our mother earth; to create awareness among the students about

conservation of environment as well as offer a platform to gather their youthful representations on possible

solutions for a greener environment.

The atmosphere in the school virtually turned green as children made vivid use of all hues and shades of green

and earth colours in the Poster Making Competition to creatively

express their ideas on „Green Earth‟. The senior students exhibited their imaginative prowess coupled with „out of

the box‟ thinking as they drew and etched their designs on the topics of „Greener Gadgets of Tomorrow‟ and

„Green Environment.‟

Some of the inventive gadgets drawn and pithy captions penned by the students bespoke a maturity beyond the

tender years of these youngsters. The participants showed a deep understanding of the environmental issues and

problems as they made full use of the Poster Making Competition to offer solutions to remedy the same.

The youthful sprites of Classes IV-V were engaged in extremely interesting Guessing Games in which they were

blindfolded and by touching the pulses, cereals or vegetables put in their hands, they had to identify the same. The

children had fun while hazarding guesses and prompting their friends. Through this innovative game, they learnt

the importance of cereals, pulses and different vegetables in our diet.

FOUNDER'S DAY CELEBRATED IN SHALOM HILLS

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (13th AUGUST, 2012)

13th August 2012 dawned as a golden day in the school calendar of Shalom Hills International School as it

celebrated its Founder‟s Day. The school put up a lavishly mounted cultural extravaganza to commemorate and

honour Dr. Mrs. Lilly George, an eminent philanthropist and visionary who is its Founder-Managing Director.

The school has been born out of its founder‟s vision of contributing to world peace through educational activities,

it is founded on her unwavering principles of integrity and morality and of course, its entire edifice is built on her

personal ideology of compassion, love, devotion and commitment.

The function started off with choir songs and the lighting of the lamp. It was graced by its guest of honour –

Managing Director as well as the Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Director of the school. The students put up

evocative dance cum song sequels on the meaningful themes of „Save the girl child‟, „Communal Harmony‟

followed by nimble-footed western numbers showcasing the verve and vivacity of the little Shalomites. The

Senior Grade students gave a power-packed performance in a street play on „Inflation‟. The hard-hitting

dialogues and expressive emoting by the students drew thunderous applause from the audience. An Indo-Fusion

dance was presented by senior students marked the epoch change that took place in Ashoka the Great‟s life after

the Kalinga War.

The emotional quotient of the day was upped when „straight from the heart‟ poems, presentations, speeches and

Page 5: Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School ... · Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School present a Special Assembly Students of Grade III of Shalom Hills

messages dedicated to their Managing Director were put up by the students and staff. A special item recorded the

school‟s impressive progress sheet and growing list of accomplishments and successes.

In her inspiring address to the students, the Managing Director thanked the school staff and students for their love

and regard. She told the students how to tune off the negativity around them and spread the message of

perseverance and positivity by regaling the audience with a telling story.

TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATED IN SHALOM HILLS INTERNATIONAL

SCHOOL

“The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes, and inspires the

listener with the wish to teach herself/himself.”

Shalom Hills International School celebrated Teacher‟s Day with great joi de vivre on 5th September‟12. This

day is celebrated as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society and also to

commemorate a great visionary, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education, a

well-known diplomat, scholar, President of India and above all a Teacher.

Mutual affection, appreciation and understanding cement every relationship and lend it strength. That is the description that fits the student-teacher equation in Shalom Hills to the tee. For that reason, the „special connect‟ between Shalom faculty and students was manifest in abundance in the cultural programme that the students had put up for the teachers‟ enjoyment. The non-stop entertainment started with a beautiful message and poem dedicated to the teachers and their

immeasurable contribution to the cause of education. Senior students performed with their usual nimble-

footedness and panache on the latest chartbusters. Amid laughter, music and excited chatter, the teachers played

musical chairs and other games. The high point was the live performance by the school band on the popular

numbers of

„Rock On‟. Ms. Madhuri Parti, the Strategic Head-Shalom Group of Schools conveyed special greetings and

blessings on the behalf of the Managing Director through which the teachers were encouraged to become a cut

above the others, A Special Shalom teacher.

A Pandora‟s Box of talent and brilliant acting was unveiled as teachers belonging to MI-III to Classes XI all

performed on the theme of “Bollywood.” All the teachers looked like eye- candy as they adorned the looks, style

and ensemble of the Bollywood divas. A spoof on the all time great „Sholay‟ presented by the teachers of Grades

VI-VIII had everybody doubled up with laughter and cheering loudly. Rousing applause greeted another set of

teachers as they danced on evergreen numbers from Rajesh Khanna movies. Another group of teachers paid a

tribute to the first family of Bollywood, „The Kapoors‟ through a medley of songs.

The school management had made elaborate arrangements for a sumptuous lunch for the teachers in the

sprawling school gardens. The teachers went back with their hearts and stomachs full and spirits high after an

enjoyable and eventful day.

Street play on „Female Foeticide‟ put up by Shalom students in

Summer Fields School on 7thNovember‟12

“No nation, no society, no community can hold its head high and claim to be part of the civilized world if it condones

the practice of discriminating against one half of humanity represented by women,” Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Street plays are a powerful medium of communication because of their mass appeal and the socially relevant message they

convey. Furthermore, the audience, on the whole identify themselves with the characters. Yet another reason for their

popularity is that it can be presented without using any props, stage, makeup, costumes etc.

aimed to develop the spatial intelligence and also inculcate the traditions involved in festive celebrations.

Rangoli Making Competition 12th

Oct‟12-Class I & II

„Rangoli‟ signifies creative expression of art by means of colours and is also considered a symbol of good-luck. Rangoli is

made on the entrance doors of homes, to welcome guests and goddess Laxmi. The talented juniors of Classes I & II thought of

celebrating this festive season in a very joyful and colourful manner by way of an Intra Class Rangoli Making Competition

held on 12th October ‟12. For the competition, the children were divided into small groups of five children and were given one

hour to complete their vibrant rangoli. Spices, glitter, pulses, rice, flower petals and even pebbles! These were just some of the

materials used by participants to make, adorn and embellish the rangoli design. Various meaningful themes were portrayed by

arranging the rangoli materials in different patterns. It was a delightful experience and spectacle to watch the artistic creativity

of the students.

Rangoli making 7th November

Rangoli is a traditional Indian art of decorating the entrance to a house. Diwali is celebrated, to herald the coming of the goddess

Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Rangoli is created at the entrance of the house to welcome the goddess herself.

Traditional rangolis were made of rice powder and with time, people started using variety of colours. The reason why our

ancestors used rice powder was to feed birds, insects and the other lives that thrive in the soil. Rangoli is a timeless tradition that

is followed all over India. Children with the help of teachers created beautiful patterns to welcome the festival of lights.

teachers.

The competition portrayed the imaginative and the ingenious side of the students. Prizes were awarded to the best rangoli

from each section based on choice of material, pattern and intricacy of design.

Page 8: Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School ... · Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School present a Special Assembly Students of Grade III of Shalom Hills

National Art Gallery and National Museum on 14.9.13(Saturday) as part of the school's experiential learning

programme. It was a day long trip amply dotted with thrilling experiences and exciting moments. The senior graders

were accompanied by Mr. M.K Quadri and Ms. Shikha Nagpal.

National Gallery of Modern Art was founded in 1954 as the premier museum of modern art of the then newly

independent nation; it houses and showcases masterpieces of the changing art forms of modern India spanning more

than one hundred and fifty years. The main objective was to inculcate in the students sensitivity, awareness and

understanding towards our art expressions which is necessary in them as the students of Fine Arts. The visit was a

deeply insightful and learning experience for the students as they were exposed to facts/exhibits which they found

highly engrossing and relevant to their discipline.

The next visit was to the National Museum of Delhi which was inaugurated in 1960 by Jawahar Lal Nehru. It exhibits

and showcases various archives, sculptors and historical remains from the period of Harappan Civilization to

Mauryas and Shungas period and also the contemporary tribal cultures. A guide chaperoned the students and

showed them the museum in chronological order. She gave the scholars useful and fascinating information about

some relatively lesser known facts relating to the exhibits. The visit drew to a close with all watching a movie on

'Harrappan Civilization' and 'Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali' in their sprawling AC auditorium.

The visit was almost an information revolution for the youngsters as they added interesting, lesser known and

unknown facts to their cache of subject knowledge by way of experiential learning.

Special Assembly of MI-II conducted in Shalom Hills International School on 26th October’13

Whenever the tiny tots of MI-II of Shalom Hills International School come on stage with their endearing dances, lovable looks and of course high-octane energy level, the occasion automatically turns into a Special Assembly.

On 26th

October‟13, a delightful cultural programme was presented in front of the parents by the little ones of MI-II along with their school mates of Grade VI. The event began with a prayer and soulful choir songs.

The school had ensured the 100% participation of every student and each student came under the spotlight, shook

a leg, wriggled, twirled, danced and thoroughly entranced, much to their parents‟ pride and their teachers‟ delight.

The brilliant choreography of each dance sequel and the special sound-lighting effects evoked the admiration of

the entire gathering. Foot-tapping numbers, the piquancy of expressions, the brilliant props, the cherubic

performers, and the trendy costumes all added up to making the special assembly a „spectacular extravaganza‟. The

high point came when the students of Grade IV set the stage on fire with their electrifying dance performance „Jai

ho‟ and peace dance.

Morning Assembly conducted by Grade X B on 15th

October’13

Page 9: Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School ... · Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School present a Special Assembly Students of Grade III of Shalom Hills

At Shalom Hills, we believe in imparting values; education being a part of it. For this reason, each and every

activity of school strives to inculcate right attitude in children and equip them with values which will make them

a better person, a caring human being and face the competitive world with confidence. Morning Assembly at

Shalom Hills is unique in the sense that it is always value based. Every class is turn wise given a value based

theme like individual differences, humanity, peace etc- on which to conduct its assembly for a week.

On 15

th October‟13, Class X B conducted the Morning Assembly under the guidance of their class teacher, Ms.

Dipika Dalal. The theme of today‟s assembly was “values”. Through their thoughts, views, story narration and

presentation, the student‟s emphasized that “If life is so important, the values of life are even more important.

They portrayed before the other students how values are guiding principles, or standards of behavior which are

regarded

desirable, important and held in high esteem by a particular society in which a person lives”.

The assembly began with a welcome note for everyone present followed by “News Headlines”, “Word of the

Day”, “Thought of the Week” and “Health Tip of the Day”. Interestingly, the health and fitness conscious

senior graders of X B demonstrated deep breathing before the assembly and asked all the students to do the

same, thus start their day on a healthy note.

It was followed by an interesting demonstration of the story “Lesson Learned”, which was about a father and son,

who were discussing whether money is more important or happiness. After a quick rundown of the story and the

valuable lesson of life to be learnt from it, an amazing activity was conducted wherein 2 students from each class

were called and they were asked to pen down the “values” they have learnt from the assembly on a leaf and make a

necklace of these leaves and hence design a unique garland of values.

Finally, through the vote of thanks, each and every one present was thanked for their contribution.

importance of Christmas and its spirit based on a popular saying about the festival, “It is the Christmas in the

heart that puts Christmas in the air.”

The assembly began with a welcome note for everyone present followed by “Word of the Day”, “Thought of the

Week” “News Headlines” and “Health Tip of the Day”. Interestingly, the health tip was about how to protect

ourselves from winter allergies and home remedies, thus start their day on a healthy note.

It was followed by an interesting narration and enactment of the story of birth of Christmas. The students

extolled the quintessence of Christmas spirit which is “Love, Peace, Thanksgiving and Joy”

Morning Assembly conducted by Grade XI A

No two leaves are alike, and yet there is no antagonism between them or the branches on which they grow.

Keeping this in mind, the students of Class XI A conducted the morning assembly in the school playground on

the theme of „Individual Differences‟. Nidhi of Class XI A gave a very warm welcome to whole of the school

followed by the Lord‟s Benediction read aloud by Pranay. The thought and word of the day were shared by

Binwant & Devashish respectively. Priya and Vedanth gave a quick rundown of current affairs and weather

forecast. The entire class also enacted a short play on the theme „Individual Differences‟. The basic plot of play

was how a teacher can change the life of a student by understanding that he is different from the rest of the

class.

By way of a health tip, Pranay conducted the laughing activity with the whole school and showed this simple way

of keeping our body healthy and giving a smiling start to our day. At the close of the assembly, an activity to

understand that it is not our differences that divide us; it is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those

differences was conducted by calling the names of best buddies from each class on the stage. Cassia brought the

day‟s assembly to a close with the rendition of the National Anthem.

Morning Assembly conducted by Grade XII A on 6th November‟13

The morning assembly for the week starting from 4 Nov to 8 Nov‟13 was conducted by the students of Class XII

A on the theme of NATURE. Other than the regular features of the assembly, a thought provoking poem on

nature closely followed by a crisply enacted skit on promoting afforestation were the special attractions of the

assembly.

The bright and highly enthused students of Grade XII A used the platform most effectively to reach out to their

fellow-mates in order to create awareness among other students and stress upon the dire need of saving trees.

The assembly concluded with a pledge by the students to save the MOTHER NATURE and finally a sapling

was planted by their class teacher Mrs. Geetanjali Sethi.

day. To give a musical start to the day, a song was sung by Akshita, Amulya, Archit, Dheeraj and Karnika to the

accompaniment of guitar played by Faiz Ali khan. This song energized all the students as they sang along and

enjoyed the vocal-instrumental musical presentation.

Teacher’s Day celebrations in Shalom Hills International School

on 5th September’13

Teachers, I believe, are the most responsible and important members

of society because their professional and personal efforts affect the

fate of the earth.

~ Helen Caldicott

In Shalom Hills International School, Teacher‟s Day is the day when one can

look back, admire and get inspired by Dr. Radhakrishnan, a small town boy,

who grew up to become one of the most respected politicians and revered

national leader in the history of post Independence India.

Yet another reason why Teacher’s Day is eagerly awaited by both the

taught and the tutors is that on this day students realize what it means to be

a teacher and what it means to control the future of several students in their

Page 13: Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School ... · Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School present a Special Assembly Students of Grade III of Shalom Hills

classes and also teachers are reminded what it felt like when they were the

students and at the same time, they realize that teaching is a true calling from

God and re-dedicate themselves to this noblest of all professions.

Most importantly, in Shalom Hills International School it was a fun-dappled and excitement dotted day with the dear students having planned a day of riotous enjoyment for their much loved teachers. The celebrations planned by the

Student‟s Council on 5th Sept‟13 were laced with emotional and fun quotient in equal measures. The songs, games and poems dedicated to the teachers were a true index of the close rapport and special connect that exists between the teachers and the students of Shalom Hills.

The non-stop entertainment planned for the teachers did not end with the cultural

programme presented by the senior graders, it only paved way for an exclusive

„fun party‟ planned for the teachers after the students left. One interesting game

after the other spiced up the festivities with the dance and music teachers adding

more liveliness to the programme through their dances and songs. A sumptuous

lunch was relished by the teachers who appreciated the management and the

school principal for not only the day‟s special celebrations but also for making

teaching in Shalom Hills ‘a truly ‘once in a lifetime’ experience for all the

faculty members.

Shalom Hills International School celebrates Grandparents’ Day

Shalom Hills International School celebrated Grandparents Day on 5th October 2013

and paid a befitting salute to the greatest treasure of a family – the grandparents

through a cultural extravaganza put up by the students and teachers that day.

Through evocative dance sequels, emotive poems and loving messages dedicated to

the grandmoms and grandpas, the school paid a debt of gratitude to these staunch

pillars of our society and nation. An atmosphere drenched in emotions engulfed the

gathering when the young artists of Grade V captured the pain and trauma of partition

that had tainted the euphoria of India‟s Independence in 1947 through a soul-stirring dance drama titled „History

comes alive‟. A spoof on today‟s politicians put up by the Shalom teachers had all

doubled up with laughter and it was followed by the riotous satire „Rupee vs Dollar‟ which humorously

conveyed the fluctuating fortunes of the rupee in the face of the rising inflation. It

was a day laden with fun quotient as well as the grandparents were engaged in one

Page 14: Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School ... · Grade III students of Shalom Hills International School present a Special Assembly Students of Grade III of Shalom Hills

lively game after another. The zestful grandpas and grandmoms vied with one

another to tie a necktie at lightning speed, balance balloons while dancing etc.

Through their performance on a medley of songs which were the rage in the 70‟s and

80‟s, the teachers took the grandparents down the memory lane as they joined the

teachers and danced to the tunes of chartbuster songs.
