Activity: Yesterday we explored our addition and subtraction tens fact families by looking at the parts and the whole. Today you are going to continue to look at the link between addition and subtraction.In the following story, you will explore the link between addition and subtraction.Ethan had 7 toy cars and Anthony had 4 toy cars. How many cars did they have altogether?This can be shown using the fact family grid below. I know that 7 and 4 more is 11, so the whole is 11.

For example, Sofia and Phoebe have 12 pencils altogether in their tub. If Sofia takes 5 pencils, how many does Phoebe have?Again we can use a fact family grid

I can solve this problem by counting up from 5 to get to 12 OR I

can take 5 away from 12 to find Phoebe’s part. Phoebe’s part is 7. I can now write my 4 fact families.5+7=127+5=1212-5=712-7=5

Task: Mothers Day/ Special person exploration. Design Brief- Mothers Day/ Special person Card

Learning Intention: To create a design brief for my card

Success Criteria:I can;

Choose what I would like to say in my card

Choose which font and colours I will use

Choose how I want my card to look for my special person

The next step of the design brief is to create a design: the front and the inside.

There are different design ideas at the bottom of the page. They are also attached to the Compass post.

You need to use what you already know about your special person to guide your design. You are to use the notes from your investigation to begin planning what the front and inside of the card will look like. Think about colours, drawings, where you are going to put your writing etc.

ACTIVE LEARNING(20 minutes)

Learning Intention: To improve my hand eye coordination

Success Criteria: I can

- Throw directly above myself in a controlled way

- I can catch with one hand

Warm Up:Set a timer for 1 minute (60 seconds) and record how many of the following exercises you can complete.

- Star Jumps - Sit ups - High knees

Example:I can do 30 star jumps in 1 minute.

Activity:Using a ball or rolled up socks practice your throwing and catching. Begin with your right hand and catch with your left. To avoid having to move to make the catch, attempt to throw the ball or sock directly above where you are standing. Continue to do so and time yourself to see how long you can do this before dropping the ball or socks. Record your personal best time and see if you can beat it. Challenge: Try balancing whilst trying this activity. Put your left leg up and see how you go!Reflection:Record your personal best time and challenge a family member to see if they can beat it!
