Patsy and her family are from a small town in Missouri and had moved to South Carolina a few years ago. Both she and her husband Tim had served in the military and Tim was working as a teacher. Several months ago, Patsy, a mother of 4, suffered a significant stroke requiring life support and has been in the hospital ever since.

During this time Tim also lost his teaching job. Tim called Grace on Wings for the first time on

a Thursday, a week before the flight. I took his call and he shared with me their story. He told me he was able to find a teaching job back in their hometown in Missouri and a facility that Patsy could rehab at but they did not know how they were going to be able to get her home. He had contacted some other transport options all of which were quite expensive. After providing him with our quote and further explaining that our medical staff consisted of volunteers, he was much relieved that it was much less compared to the others; but he was still unsure of how he and would be able to pull this off. I encouraged him to reach out to his family, friends, and church and then to sit back and allow God to do the rest.

Praise the Lord, a week to the day we were on our way to take Patsy back home. As Matt and I were preparing to leave, I was looking over her paperwork and something really caught my attention....Woe Patsy is only 16 days older than me! I must say that weighed a little heavy on my heart.

We arrived at her bedside and I was pleased to see how well she was doing. Although weak she was able to move all of her extremities and speak softly, having just recently had her

tracheostomy removed. She tolerated the flight very well and when we arrived at her new facility her sisters were there waiting on her and so very glad to finally have her home.

As we were flying from South Carolina to Missouri we were listening to the song "Even If" was playing. As I listened to the words: "even if the healing doesn't come, You are God; You are good, forever faithful One, even if the healing doesn't come" I reflected on how God was working in Patsy's life: He had made this flight possible, He allowed Tim to find a job back home, and now was bringing Patsy back closer to her family.

So many times we are so focused on the negative and in doing so we miss so many blessings. God wants us to focus our attention on Him not to look behind us or before us but to allow Him to equip us for whatever journey awaits. He does not allow us to see all of our life at once because we could not bear it. He uses "time" to be a protection for us. Stop and look around you this very minute and take your eyes off of yourself, take the time to see the blessings He has given to you. Thank you to all who made this mission possible including Hal our pilot, Mike our flight follower, and as always Matt. It is a blessing to serve with you all. !Gen. 28:15."I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you un t i l I h a v e d o n e what I have p r o m i s e d you.” !!Shelli

THE REAL YOU. BY PASTOR LONNIE RICHARDSON A pastor was approached by a father who was discouraged with the gap between his Christian profession on Sunday and his devilish performance during the week. "I am going to quit going to church," he told his pastor. "My wife and I fight at home, yell at the kids and experience a miserable existence all week. Then Sunday I get dressed up, put on a smile and come to worship. I feel like a hypocrite at church." !

The pastor smiled with genuine warmth and answered, “you have it backwards. That's the real you on Sunday, smiling and happy. You are acting like a hypocrite the rest of the week!”. He answered: “I never thought of it that way!" He was in church the next Sunday and his home life changed! !I have a basic conviction that people really want to be right, do right and feel right. As we struggle with disappointments and uncontrolled change, one is inclined to react instead of positively responding to life's challenges. Possessions should never posses you. We do not have to settle for those things about ourselves with which we are not happy. Embrace those times of fulfillment and peace that comes from the activity of nurturing Christian faith. Decide that is the real you. You will soon discover that you become what you expect.

Matt Guy joined the full-time staff of Grace on Wings in January of this year serving as the Chief Flight Nurse & Paramedic for our organization. He will be directing our team of volunteer nurses, respiratory therapists, and paramedics. His love for the Lord, his servant’s heart, and his clinical skills make him uniquely qualified for this job. Matt has worked as an RN in the Critical Care and ER units

for Lutheran Health Network in Warsaw, Indiana since 2011. He also has extensive clinical experience as a Paramedic. !Matt was one of our most faithful volunteers for the past five years, earning the award of Medical Volunteer of the Year in 2011. He has been chief medical officer onboard our aircraft during many patient transports. In addition, he has provided continuing education lectures to our volunteer medical staff during training sessions. !One of Matt’s strengths is developing and upgrading our patient charting and reporting system. He has been instrumental in helping us transition to the proper use of our electronic medical record which is required by the Indiana State EMS commission and all insurance agencies. !Matt’s hobbies include listening to music and reading. He devotes much of his free time to helping others learn about nutrition, health promotion, and disease prevention.
