Cedar Grove Bridge Closure As many residents and commuters have noticed, the bridge over the railroad tracks on Cedar Grove Road, just east of the Conley Package Store, has been closed indefinitely. As a result, both residents and businesses that normally use this road to access Moreland Avenue should now use Cedar Grove Road to Bouldercrest Road. Many residents have complained that large trucks have begun using smaller side streets, such as Moore Road. These side streets were not designed for truck traffic and there is not a sufficient turning radius to accommodate these trucks' wide turns without destroying property or running off the road, which blocks local traffic. The DeKalb County Police will begin ticketing truckers who continue to use side streets and will redirect them to Cedar Grove and Bouldercrest roads. The CID has requested detour signage be placed throughout the area to help truckers not as familiar with this area. We value the area residents and are sympathetic to the present situation due to the bridge closure. While the CID understands this issue is inconvenient, we're asking for patience. Stay tuned to the CID's social media platforms and future newsletters for updates on the situation. GTIB Awards $1 Million to Metro South CID for Infrastructure Improvements The Metro South CID received a $1 million grant towards the Constitution Road Freight Corridor improvements project from the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB)! This is an exciting first step in financing the project, expected to cost a total of $9 million. The CID continues to work diligently to find added project funding. This project will improve a 1.6-mile stretch of Bailey Street, Fayetteville Road and Constitution Road, including a truck roundabout at the five-leg intersection of Fleetwood Drive, Fayetteville Road, Woodstock Road and Bailey Street. The project also includes signalization at Bailey Street and US 23. Constitution Road will be resurfaced and widened from 20 to 26 feet and its intersection with Fayetteville Road will be realigned. The project will address safety issues, improve traffic flow and better accommodate the high levels of freight traffic within the corridor.
