Quick Start Guide

1. Introduction

This document is a quick start guide, to allow the customer a basic startup of the system, using theconfiguration preloaded on the modem during QC test at the factory. For more detail information refer to the“GPRS GPS software guide” and supplied drawings.

2.   System Description

The system includes the following equipment:a. One or more, GSM controller with GS902B modem (black) with GSM and GPS antennas, used on the

remote locationb. One GPRS modem (Aluminum) with GSM antenna, used on the control center

Each one of them will require a GSM SIM card. Customer will need to buy them from a local telephonecompany. If GSM capability is used, modem will be able to call or text local phone numbers under alarmcondition.

3.   Connection

Install a SIM card on each modem.

Quick Start Guide

Connect GSM and GPS antennas to the GS902B modem; connect battery to the controller according withsupplied drawing. DO NOT connect the USB cable to the computer, drivers MUST be loaded first. Data andGPRS red LEDS on top of the modem will start blinking. After a minute only GPRS LED blinks, indicating thatthe modem is ready for communication.

Connect GSM antenna and power cable to the GPRS modem. Data and NET LEDs on top of the unit startblinking, after few minutes, DATA LED stay solid ON and NET LED blinks, indicating that the modem is readyfor communication. Connect serial cable to an available serial port or USB to serial adaptor on the computer.This modem does not need special drivers. Note serial port number used, you’ll needed for furtherconfiguration.

4.   Software and Drivers Installation

On the software package supplied, find the folder “Window Drivers”. Run the appropriate installer for 32 bit or 64 bit OS.

After the installation is completed, connect the USB cable from the GS902B modem to the computer. Check onthe “Device Manager” in your control panel, for COM port number.

From the software package supplied, run the setup to install on your computer the “GPS setup – GS902B”application.

You will need the following product key:

After the installation is completed, run the application.

5. Retrieving Factory Configuration

First, you will be asked to choose the GSM modem type, select the one shown below.

On the “Device setup windows”, choose the right COM port for the GSM controller and click on the “Connect” button.

If the connection is established, a GREEN indicator will turn ON.

Go to the “Phone Book “ tab, add connection number “1”. Phone number must be the number for the SIMcard on the GSM controller. Note that corresponding country and area code may need to be used.

You can use default password number, as shown. After all the boxes are filled up, click on the “ADD” button, toadd the connection.

Go to “Device Setup” window, from the pull down “Connection” menu, choose connection “00000001”. If thecommand is successful, it’ll show a GREEN indicator ON, in the upper right corner of the window.

Now you are ready to start retrieving information to fill up the main windows tab.

5.1.   Device Setup tab:

Click on “Read Parameters” button“1” first, and wait for the command success GREEN indicator to comeON.

“Alarm Phone Number” is the phone number where the alarm messages are sent to, they MUST bechanged for the corresponding local phone numbers belonging to maintenance personnel. After phonenumbers are changed, click the button to save changes.

Click on “Read Parameters” button“4” to establish communication with the GPRS network.  “GSM module”, “SIM card” and “Fixed IP” GREEN indicators, should turn ON.

5.2.   Digital/Relay Channel Setup:

Click on “Read Parameters” button“3” first, and wait for the command success GREEN indicator to comeON.

Alarms are set as “close trigger”, meaning that a short circuit of the digital inputs will trigger an alarmcondition. Refer to the supplied drawing for terminal connections for each one of the digital inputs.

In alarm condition, a text message will be sent to the designated phone number. You can check the alarmoperation by short‐circuiting any of the digital inputs.

Note that the current configuration is just an example; you can modify the “alarm type”, phone alert orrelay for any of the digital input using the pull down menu. After any modification, click on the “setbutton”, for the corresponding digital parameter, to keep the changes.

5.3.   Analog Channel Setup:

Click on “Read Parameters” button“6” first, and wait for the command success GREEN indicator to comeON.

Note that “Analog Channel” are analog input according with industrial standard for current input, 4 to20mA, so “Analog Channel” must be programmed as shown.

Using the above setting, alarm messages will be sent for current in “analog 1” or “analog 2” below 6 andabove 18.0 mA.

You can produce an alarm condition to check receiving a text message on the designated phone number.

6.   Remote Operation:

Remote operation is carried out using the GPRS modem (aluminum).

Disconnect the USB cable going to the controller, connect to an available COM port on your computer,connect the supplied power supply, check for the COM port to establish connection and run the application.

First, you will be asked to choose the G902B modem type, select the one shown below.

On the “Device setup” tab, make sure to check mark “GSM modem” option. On the “Port” pull down menu,choose the COM port where the modem is connected. The GREEN indicator should come ON. Select theconnection, same as created before. Now the Control Center modem will establish a connection with theremote modem (controller) box, after the command succeeds, you can repeat 5.1 to 5.3 to retrieve theinformation through the GSM network. Note that this connection is slower than the USB connection,meaning that will take more time to complete each command; this is normal.

You have finished the basic configuration, for more information refer to the complete Software setupsupplied.
