The 18-year-old, from Goulburn, was in a serious but improving condition in Canberra Hospital yesterday after being airlifted from the crash scene. Police Rescue had to free her from the Hyundai Accent hatchback she had been driving west along Crookwell Rd at 3am. Her 19-year-old male front seat passenger sustained minor injuries. Officers have charged a 30-year-old Goulburn man with negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm. He decamped from the scene, police alleged. The man handed himself into police five hours later, Inspector Rob Post said. He and his three passengers were driv- ing south on Marys Mount Rd in a 2001 Holden Calais sedan when it impacted with the hatchback. The 18-year-old girl in the Hyundai was trapped before being flown to Canberra Hospital by Snowy Hydro SouthCare heli- copter with serious head injuries and multiple fractures, police said. A 20-year-old woman who was travelling in the rear seat of the sedan also sus- tained multiple fractures, while the 28- year-old male front passenger and 17-year-old male rear passenger escaped with minor injuries. They were taken to Goulburn Base Hospital after being treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics. On Saturday some of them underwent x-rays and scans. The 30-year-old was also later taken to hospital for mandatory blood tests. Four ambulances and NSW Fire and Rescue also attended the scene, the latter as a precaution. All of the people involved were from Goulburn. Inspector Post said on Saturday there was a “high possibility” of further charges pending.
