Dear Parents and Carers,

It is lovely to be back at school and to see how all

the children have grown! What a difference a

staff are continuing to work very hard to ensure

that they are all making the progress they need

to. I am pleased to see new initiatives like

increased for the second year running. We are

confident that this will continue to be the trend

this year. Similarly Y2 and Foundation Stage

results were very pleasing again; with Y1 Phonics

Thank you for supporting the Christmas shows

and services across the Federation which have all

been lovely—well done children. Although it is

for best drama kings and queens of 2018!

I trust you are all looking forward to the

Christmas break with family and friends and on

behalf of the staff at both sites I wish you a very

happy Christmas. We look forward to working

with you all in the new year.

Mrs. Wanda Roberts

This year Year 2 went to the Church for their

Christmas performance. We told the Christmas story

through song and words, finishing with an amazing

rendition of „A Million Dreams‟ from The Greatest

Showman. The children sang beautifully and looked

very colourful in their Christmas jumpers. At the end

of the performance we all had a mince pie to really get

us in the Christmas spirit. Mrs Bristow

The Nursery children have had a

great term and are getting excited

about Christmas! We have been

doing lots of cooking recently and the children have

enjoyed making festive biscuits for our 'Craft and

Songs' extravaganza on Friday. We've been working

on our fine motor skills and practising name writing

for our beautiful Christmas cards and decorations -

coming soon to a home near you! Our Nursery

library has been a great success this term and we

are delighted to see so many children taking lots of

lovely stories home to share. Looking

forward to more fun together in the New

Year. Mrs Van der Worp and Mrs Horn

Nursery

Reception

Yr 1

What an amazing half term we have had in

Foundation! We have finished learning all our initial

sounds in phonics, are moving at super speed learning

one more and one less in maths and most exciting of all

received our first reading books!! The Christmas play has

been performed and was fantastic both times, such a

great effort to learn all of our songs, dances and lines! I'm

sure everyone will agree the hard work was worth it. The

role play area has been turned into santas grotto, with

presents being wrapped, trees decorated and mulled

water being supped! Mr Davidson

Year One have had a fantastic half term learning about transport. We were

very lucky to have a visit from the local PCSO's and their dog Bravo. The Police

officers showed us round their police vehicle, took our fingerprints (which we

got to take home) and we even got to try on some of the

uniform. It was a great way to end our topic. We then

practiced and practiced and practiced some more so that

our Christmas Show was absolutely amazing. The teachers

were incredibly proud of how well every single child sang and

joined in with the performance. We wish you all a very

peaceful Christmas and can't wait to welcome you back in

the New Year with our new topic; Marvellous Medicine.

Mrs March

Yr 2

Year 3

Yr 6

Year 4

Year 5

Year 5 have had an „Out of this World‟ experience during

this half term. They have been learning all about planets in

our Solar System, exploring how day turns to night. They

also made some wonderful paper mache planets to help

create our Space Room, setting the scene for us to widen

our knowledge on the sizes and distances between them.

There was something in the atmosphere (or at least we were hoping!) on our rocket launch day

when the children got to conduct a science experiment investigating what forces send rockets

into orbit. Back down to Earth and into the classroom, the children showed off their ICT skills by

creating amazing presentations to enlighten Year 2 with fun facts and information about Mars,

Neptune and all the other planets. We hope you all have a relaxing Christmas and a Happy New

Year! The Yr 5 team.

Year 6 had a fantastic trip to Nothe Fort as part of their Weymouth

Through Time topic this term. The children became evacuees for the

day and many of them had very convincing costumes so they could

really get into the spirit of things. They experienced what it was like

in a WW2 classroom, learnt about rationing and „old

money‟ and even dashed into an Anderson Shelter

when an air raid went off. It was an enjoyable and

very informative day.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all

very happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing

you in the new year. The Yr 6 Team

In Year 3 we have enjoyed our topic of The Dark this half

term. We have written tales of fear in dark settings,

written 'brightly' poems, looked at shadows, and have

produced a nativity performance in shadow form for our

Christingle. We shall also be looking at electricity and

producing some Christmas decorations that light up!

Mrs Banner

Year 4 have been enjoying the preparations for Christmas. We have

looked at the poem 'The Night Before Christmas' and included a

performance of it in our Christingle service. We particularly

enjoyed watching the sugar plum fairies dance! The Christingle

service itself was beautiful and the children should be very proud of

themselves and their contributions towards making it such a

special service, putting us all in the Christmas spirit. Well done Year 4!
