Sea OttersSea Otters live in the coastal waters of the Pacific Ocean, Bering

Sea from northern Asia and the Aleutian Islands south to lower California. They eat many different things such as clams, snails, abalone, crabs, starfish, mussels, scallops, squid, chitons, small octopuses, and so much more! They eat up to about 160 different types of food!

There are many reasons why Sea Otters are extinct.

The first reason is because people love to hunt them due to their soft thick fur.

Another reason is because fishermen thinks that they eat to many fish and the only way to get the fish back is to kill the Sea Otters.

Oil spills also take a roll in Sea Otters going extinct. In 1989 a huge oil spill happened in Alaska killing 1,000 sea otters!

Why are they extinct?

What causes Sea Otters to get sick?Sea Otters tend to get sick

due to the pollution in the water. When an oil spill occurs, their force to live and swim in it. They eat other things that have oil in and on them because they also live in the same water. So when an oil spill happens that is all the Sea Otters is around.

Sea Otters eat at least 25% of their own body weigh, So they consume quit a bit. They eat so much fish that fishermen in the areas of Sea Otters have a hard time finding fish sometimes.

Though Sea Otters eat a lot of fish, if we didn’t have Sea Otters then the food chain will get thrown out of balance. What ever Sea Otters eat will increase dramatically but when ever eats Sea Otters will decrease dramatically and become endanger also.

How do Sea Otters affect the environment/What will happen if we

no longer have Sea Otters?

Protecting Sea Otters and increasing the number of

themGovernments, organizations and more are

trying to protect the Sea Otters. Laws were made so

hunters could no longer hunt them in certain areas and their trying to prevent oil

spills from happening. They are trying to breed them to

raise more and release them into the wild and trying to keep the ocean clean so nothing can harm them.

Humans tend to not think about keeping the ocean clean or how we can harm animals. Sea Otters are hunted for their fur or killed just because they eat to much fish. Fishermen don’t think about what they leave behind, an animal could get stuck in it nor when an oil spill happens how much damage it is truly doing. Sea Otters live in the ocean and can’t just move to a new location. They must live in the waters they live in and can’t prevent anything from harming their homes. Due to all listed above Sea Otters are extinct and need help raising the number of how many Sea Otters are out their.

How did Sea Otters become extinct?
