GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE HAYATHNAGAR
NSS UNIT 2 (GIRLS) - GDC HAYATHNAGAR
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
National Service Scheme was started on 24th September, 1969. The NSS Unit of our College
started in 2013, it is always in the forefront to render services to the Society thus fulfilling the
aims & ideas of our Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. The cardinal principle of the N.S.S.
programme is commitment to social service their motto being ‘Not Me But You’. National
Service Scheme (NSS) is one of the institutional strengths through which the College attempts to
sensitize and inculcate the spirit and values pertaining to community service. It is one of the best
platforms to encourage students’ participation in various extension programmes which is indeed
significant for community development. The students who decide to join NSS should put in 240
hours and attend 2 special camps. The students who fulfil these two criterions are awarded two
additional credits.
NSS activities are held under the supervision of the NSS Programme Officers appointed by the
NSS Coordinator, Osmania University, on the recommendation of the Principal. GDC
Hayathnagar. College has two NSS units including one NSS unit exclusively for girls. NSS
volunteers have been actively taking part in various extension programmes benefitting not only
the students but also neighbourhood community and other stakeholders. The NSS volunteers
participate in programmes like the Green Run, Tree Plantation programme organized by the
MCH, National Integration Communal Harmony programmes, Blood Donation camps,

The students and teachers come together in the cause of social service and this activity helps
them in realizing their potential. 100 volunteers are working in the Unit 2 Girls of N.S.S. in the
College. They participate in youth festivals conducted by different universities. N.S.S. volunteers
actively participate in a special camp programme in which they adopt a village and work for its
