RUSA Sponsored National Seminar on Quality Concerns in Teacher Education was organized by the college under the initiative of Internal Quality Assurance Cell on 24-25 February, 2016. RUSA sponsored workshops on innovative lesson planning in the pedagogy of Social Sciences, Languages, Science, Mathematics, Home Science and Computer Science under the initiative of Internal Quality Assurance Cell were conducted by the college on December 8, 2015 and February 26, 2016.LCD equipped Classrooms, computer and internet facilities provided facilitative research environment. Inflibnet helped access to latest pedagogic practices in teacher education. Action Research, Case Studies, PPT Presentation, preparation of innovative learning resource materials were undertaken by students as well as faculty members. Faculty adopted student centred approaches/experiential learning strategies for curricular transaction such as Field Trips,

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes:

College under the initiative of IQAC contributes towards quality improvement in teaching learning process by ways of organising Faculty Development Programs, orientation programs for students, Student body elections, seminars, conferences, workshops, quiz and debate contests etc. Power point presentation competitions and group/ panel discussions are also regularly organized.It also plays a vital role in monitoring and evaluation of the teaching learning processes through various academic and administrative committees, staff meetings and regular Student Feedback. The documentation of the various programmes/ activities helps in translating into quality improvement. Various academic activities are organized for effective execution of curriculum and evaluation process.

Faculty was encouraged for writing and presenting research papers and taking up research projects, organizing and attending national and international seminars and conferences. To promote research, college brings out its own peer reviewed refereed research journal with ISSN number ‘The Educational Beacon’ in which most of the faculty members contribute their research papers. This session IQAC took initiative to organise National Seminar on Quality Concerns in Teacher Education and workshops on lesson planning in the pedagogy subjects of Social Sciences, Languages, Science, Mathematics, Home Science and Computer Science.

2. NSS Day Celebrated with various competitions and Cleanliness drives on September 24,

2015.

3. World AIDS Day celebrated on December 1, 2015.

4. One day Blood Donation camp on March 15, 2016.

5. Yoga-asana, Pranayams and meditation performed by the volunteers under the guidance of

Sh. Balwinder Acharya, a veteran Yoga Expert.

6. Visit to Govt. High School, Sector-52 (village Kajheri), Chandigarh for undertaking the

survey regarding cleanliness measures to improve sanitation facilities in this village school.

7. Visits to RIMH, Sector-31, Blind School, Sector-26 as well as Old Age Home Sector-15.

8. Mr. Gurmit Singh, Chief Fire Officer of Fire Dept. along with Mr. Navin Kumar and the

team interacted with the students on fire safety and demonstrated the fire fighting operations

in action in the college premises.

9. A motivational lecture by Prof. K.P.S Shante, Dean PGGCG-42 and head of the Dept. of

Geography.

10. Door to door survey of Sector-29, Chandigarh regarding the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer)

Scheme of the Government of India and the need for Skill Based Vocational Courses of

these households by groups of students.

11. Birth anniversaries of Gandhi ji and Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri celebrated on Oct.02.

12. International Day of Non Violence observed by group discussions on the Concept and need

of Non Violence in our day to day life.

13. A special lecture cum interaction session was organized to make the students aware of

traffic rules and road safety measures. The Chief Marshal (traffic) of Chandigarh Traffic

Police Mr. Gurnam Singh along with Mr. Naveen Kumar, Ms Pooja and Mr. Paramjit Singh

from the Chandigarh Traffic Police interacted with the students.

14. International Youth Day celebrated on August 12, 2015.

15. Speech Competition on the theme Sadbhavna Divas was held on August 20, 2015.

16. Poster making and Slogan writing Competition was held on the theme: AIDS Awareness on

November 26, 2015.

17. World AIDS Day observed on December 1, 2015. A candle light rally was organized on this

day. More than 50 students participated in the rally with Placards in their hands and raised

slogans to eradicate AIDS/HIV and take preventive measures. College Red.

18. College is Study Centre of Panjab University Chandigarh for B.Ed. Classes through

correspondence mode. Personal contact programme was organized from October 5-19, 2015

and another was held from February 15-29, 2016. During these Contact program B.Ed.

Semester-I 61 and Semester-III 40, B.Ed. Semester-II 50 and Semester-IV 40 Students are

4.2 Computerization of administration and library

Installation of LCD Projector and Touch screen Interactive board was done in the Guidance

and counseling Unit cum Psychology Lab. Eighteen new tests have also been added in the lab

making a total of about five hundred and sixty.

LED television has been installed in the Educational Technology Lab. of the college.

Antivirus software was uploaded in the twenty computers of the Language Lab. The Lab also

has internet facility and is equipped with various language softwares. It aims at training

prospective teachers in effective language communication.

In the Computers Lab, Antivirus softwares were loaded in the required computers. Ten hp

make computers with TFT were purchased. Web site of the college was also updated.

Library is fully computerized with 7 computers and is linked through LAN. Libsys software

has been installed for library operations. In addition to computerized Issue/Return of books to

students, Barcodes, Spine labels, Catalogue cards and Library cum Identity card (SMART

CARDS) are generated through Libsys software. Library provides OPAC and internet services

to staff and students.

To approach e-books and e-journals ‘N-LIST programme of INFLIBNET’ has been

subscribed for college faculty and M.Ed. students.

Installation of LCD Projector and Touch screen Interactive board was done in the Guidance

and counseling Unit cum Psychology Lab. Eighteen new tests have also been added in the lab

making a total of about five hundred and sixty.

LED television has been installed in the Educational Technology Lab. of the college.

Antivirus software was uploaded in the twenty computers of the Language Lab. The Lab also

has internet facility and is equipped with various language softwares. It aims at training

prospective teachers in effective language communication.

In the Computers Lab, Antivirus softwares were loaded in the required computers. Ten hp

make computers with TFT were purchased. Web site of the college was also updated.

Library is fully computerized with 7 computers and is linked through LAN. Libsys software

has been installed for library operations. In addition to computerized Issue/Return of books to

students, Barcodes, Spine labels, Catalogue cards and Library cum Identity card (SMART

Our college’s 24 Hrs. Helpline facilitated providing counselling to pupil teachers. Mrs.

Neelam Dhamija, Retd. Lecturer, MCMDAV College and Head of Arya Mahila Sangathan

and her team visited college and provided personal guidance along with value orientation to

each and every student of the college through her inspirational talks and individual

counselling for six days in this session.

RUSA sponsored symposium on Employment Avenues for Teaching Professionals was

Girl students were made aware of health related issues and performed Yoga-asana, Pranayams and meditation under the guidance of Sh. Balwinder Acharya, a veteran Yoga Expert.

World AIDS Day was observed on December 1, 2015. A candle light rally was organized

on this day. More than 50 girl students participated in the rally with Placards in their hands

Organisation of house examination and preparation of results were computerized. There was provision of continuous assessment of the students through internal exams, class participation/ presentation and attendance as per guidelines of Panjab University, Chandigarh. Most of our faculty members acted as Observer/ Flying Squad/paper setter, head examiner, sub examiner, superintendent and invigilators in Panjab University Exams. Our faculty members also acted as paper setter and examiners of other universities.

The college has an approved Research Resource Centre and this was the second session of this resource centre. Students who have enrolled themselves for Ph.D. in Education from Panjab University are pursuing their Pre-Ph.D. Course in our resource centre.

Professional Development of Teachers: Being a teacher education institution, our main emphasis is to develop teacher educators professionally so that they can facilitate skill development of students in a better way. To realise this objective, college organises various faculty development programs viz. Seminars, workshops, symposia, extension lectures, off campus experiences regularly. In this session, RUSA sponsored workshops on preparing innovative Lesson Plans in the subjects of Social Sciences, Languages, Science, Mathematics, Home Science and Computer Science were organised on the premises of college on December 8, 2015 and February 26, 2016. Delegates from various institutions of the region and faculty of the college attended these workshops. During these workshops, various key issues related to the lesson plans were discussed. Importance of Planning for effective teaching was also highlighted. The pivotal questions and illustrations related to the steps of lesson planning were elaborated. Model lesson plans in the related subjects were also prepared.

2. Development of civic responsibility among students: Our College takes initiatives to develop citizenship qualities amongst its students. Keeping this objective in mind, the students are made sensitive to the civic and social responsibilities such as communal harmony, gender sensitisation, environmental protection, health and hygiene, sensitization towards specially abled, respect to elders etc. College celebrates National Days, Communal Harmony Day, No Honking Day; organises visits to Old Age home, Blind Institute, Mother Teresa Home for destitute, various awareness rallies viz., AIDS control, environment protection, Girl Child, Drug Abuse etc. The college took initiative to be a part of nationwide cleanliness campaign ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ in this session to ensure organization of continuous cleanliness drives at regular intervals. STRENGTHS Highly qualified faculty, with Ph.D. in their respective areas of specialization. Thirteen teachers are guiding research (for Ph.D. degrees) in education and interdisciplinary areas. All of our faculty members are involved in various research publications, seminars, conferences and

workshops and act as resource persons at various forums. Value Education Assemblies, Tutorial Groups and theme based societies as regular weekly feature of the

college for value and skill inculcation among the students Excellent Infrastructure including ICT-enabled classrooms, extremely rich library, separate staff room,

well equipped college office with computerized operations, well equipped laboratories (Computer lab, Language lab, Education Technology Lab., Home Science lab., Psychology and Guidance & Counselling Lab., Science Lab, Gymnasium, Dispensary), separate well equipped, well furnished and well maintained Boys’ and Girls’ hostels with mess and all other facilities for holistic development of future educators. ANNUAL REPORT-2015-16

WELCOME ADDRESS

His Excellency, the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration and Governor of

Haryana and Punjab, Hon’ble Director Higher Education, Distinguished Alumni

and Academia, Members from the Press and Media and dear invitees,

  I have immense pleasure in extending a warm welcome to this august gathering

on the occasion of the 60th Annual Convocation of Govt. College of Education. I

welcome His Excellency, the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration, a man of

deep wisdom and vast experience.

It is a matter of great honour for this 61 years old premier institution of teacher

education to have a chief guest of the caliber of His Excellency who himself has

been a great teacher and a role model for his students. Having passed B.A. and

B.Ed. from Gwalior and Ujjain and M.A. in English from Jiwaji University,

Gwalior, he has served the country by actively contributing his services in the

educational and Political arenas. He has been serving as Professor at P.G.V.

College, Gwalior for thirty four consecutive years. Making a significant mark in

the political spheres, he served as the Member of the committees for various

ministries of Govt. of India and has been twice elected to the Rajya Sabha. 

His Excellency has also been a Member of India-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship

Group and India Bosnia and Herzegovina Parliamentary Friendship Group before

joining his office as the Administrator to the Chandigarh Administration.  His

affection and admiration towards education is shown by his frequent interaction

with students during various academic occasions. 

Our Hon'ble Administrator, an educationist and a statesman himself, is a strong

believer of the concept of social service and has been actively serving the society

Government College of Education, a synonym to the quality teacher education is striving to

disseminate the new knowledge and trying to draw the wisdom our pupil teachers already

possess with our innovative teaching strategies. Moving towards the goal to analyze the

similarities as well as the nuances in imparting the theory as well as set of practical skills we are

visualizing to stay beyond the conventional boundaries and focus on the very essence of all our

actions.

EXAMINATION RESULTS

M.Ed. and B.Ed. courses of study were offered during the session 2014-2015.

In class M.Ed. 35 students appeared in M.Ed. (General) examinations held by Panjab University

in 2015 and all of them secured first division. Monika stood first by securing 81.6% marks

followed by Aashima Gupta with 80.5% marks. Lisha Mahajan stood third who scored 80.3%

marks.

298 students appeared in B.Ed. examinations out of which 296 students secured first division.

Manjot Kaur Bajwa stood first by securing 82.2% whereas Jaswant Kaur secured second

position with 82.1% marks. Arpit Sharma secured third position by securing 81.7% marks.

ACHIEVEMENTS

We take pride in the achievements and participations of our students in diverse arenas of

activities. The following are the outcomes of various participations during the session 2015-16.

During Orientation Program, ‘Talent Hunt’ was conducted on August 10-12, 2015. 46 students

presented diverse items viz. Poems, songs, speeches, dances, theatrical items etc. and 18 were

selected as the talents of the session.

Election of the student body of the ‘Literary & Cultural Committee’ was held on August 28,

2015 for the posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint-Secretary & Treasurer.

P.U. Zonal & Inter-Zonal Youth & Heritage Festivals

A total number of 45 students participated in 26 items during the P.U. Zonal Youth & Heritage

Festival held at Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh from 8th to 10th October 2015.

CHANGES IN THE STAFF

completion of their dedicated service to this institution.

Sh. Sobh Nath, Junior Assistant was promoted as Section Officer and got transferred to A.O.

(Rents), Chd Administration.

We place on record our thanks to all who have parted ways with us for their committed service

and devoted efforts for the development of this institution.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

The new academic session started with orientation programme held from August 10 to August

12, 2015. The session was inaugurated by Prof. P.K. Tulsi Dean, R&D, Prof. & Head,

Department of Education and Educational Management, NITTR, Chandigarh. She discussed

her thoughts on the qualities of an ideal teacher. She inspired the students by her great words.

Dr. (Mrs.) Harsh Batra welcomed the students. She lauded the students for taking up teaching as

their profession. She acquainted the students with the high academic standards prevalent in the

institution and wished them success for the ensuing session.

During three day orientation students were informed about the details of the scheme of studies,

time table, various aspects of placement cell, crafts, library services, co-curricular activities, skill

in teaching, NSS and Red Ribbon Club. They were also informed about services of Guidance

cum Psychology Lab. Talent hunt was also organized during orientation programme.

RESEARCH INITIATIVES

RUSA Sponsored National Seminar on Human Rights

A RUSA Sponsored Seminar on Quality Concerns in Teacher Education was organized by the

college under the initiative of Internal Quality Assurance Cell on 24-25 February, 2016, in which

62 participants/delegates from various teacher education institutions of various states

participated.

Ms Kriti Garg, SDM (South), Chandigarh Administration inaugurated the seminar with her

keynote address. Various Resource persons, who chaired the technical sessions, included Prof.

Taruna Dhall, Associate Professor- Principal, University College of Education, Kurukshetra

University, Kurukshetra; Prof. V.K. Gupta, Principal (Retd.), University College of Education,

Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra; Prof. Romesh Chand, Professor, Department of Education,

Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and Prof. Sunil Dutt, Professor- Principal, NITTTR,

Chandigarh. About 52 papers presented in the National Seminar are going to be published in the

form of Proceedings of the seminar with ISBN number.

Workshops on Lesson Planning

RUSA sponsored workshops on Steps of Lesson Plan in the subjects of Social Sciences,

Languages, Science, Mathematics, Home Science and Computer Science were held in the

premises of the college on December 8, 2015 and February 26, 2016. Delegates from various

institutions of the region and faculty of the college attended this workshop. During these

workshops various key issues related to the lesson plans were discussed. Importance of Planning

for effective teaching was also highlighted. The pivotal questions and illustrations related to the

steps of lesson planning were elaborated. The association between various parts in the same unit,

the selection and organisation of subject-matter, materials and activities were discussed in detail.

Model lesson plans in the related subjects were also prepared.

Symposium on Employment Avenues for Teaching Professionals

College organized a RUSA sponsored symposium on Employment Avenues for Teaching

Professionals on March 21, 2016 in the premises of the college. Faculty and all the students of

B.Ed. and M.Ed. classes attended this symposium. The resource persons threw light on

employment opportunities in various areas after pre-service teacher training and Effective Life

Skills. They evinced that vocational and effective life skills are professionally-developed which

are designed to provide readily useable solutions to the vocational issues. Various work avenues

available for teachers were discussed in detail.

Research Journal in Education

The College brings out annually its own research journal in Education ‘The Educational Beacon’

which is peer reviewed and with ISSN focusing especially on the current needs and trends in the

field of Education. The goal is to promote research and its application. There is a strong need

the journal was released during 59th Annual Convocation and fifth issue is ready for release

today, i.e., during 60th Annual Convocation.

Research Resource Centre

We are proud that our college has started its research resource centre and this was the second

session of this resource centre. Students who have enrolled themselves for Ph.D. in Education

from Panjab University are pursuing their Pre-Ph.D. Course in our resource centre. Majority of

our faculty members are acting as supervisors for Ph.D. research scholars.

Research Work for Postgraduate Course

M.Ed. students are undertaking research and have taken up challenging topics for their

dissertations. Our faculty members are enthusiastically engaged in research and are guiding

dissertations of M.Ed.

PLACEMENT CELL ENDEAVOURS

1. The College Placement Cell organized a one day talk on Personality Development on

September 28, 2015. Expert during the talk was Mr. Shivinder Kang, Assistant Course

Coordinator for Personality Development Programme, R.I.E., Sector-32, Chandigarh.

2. Besides routine data collection, information dissemination of the M.Ed. and B.Ed

students has been accomplished by the cell from time to time throughout the session.

NATIONAL FESTIVALS

The National Festivals were celebrated with traditional fervor by unfurling the tricolor. On

August 15, 2014 Independence Day was celebrated. Dr. Sapna Nanda, the oldest serving

employee of the college in terms of number of years was the chief guest and hoisted the National

Flag. On January 26, 2015, Dr. A. K. Srivastava was the chief guest to perform the flag hoisting

ceremony. Both the days were celebrated by the faculty, students and all other staff members

with great patriotic zeal. Students presented patriotic songs and sweets were distributed on these

occasions.

The college has two units of NSS. The following are the details of the programmes pursued by

the units throughout the session.

Regular activities

One day NSS camp and Teachers’ Day Celebrations were held on September 4, 2015.

NSS Executive body elections and 1 Day NSS Camp to Celebrate NSS Day with various

competitions and Cleanliness drive was organized in the campus on September 24, 2015.

World AIDS Day was held with a rally flagged off by Director Higher Education,

Chandigarh Administration on December 1, 2015.

One day Blood Donation camp was organized by NSS Unit and Red Ribbon Club of the

college on March 15, 2016.

Special Camp

The NSS unit of the college organised a ‘Special Seven Day NSS Camp’ from September 28,

2015 to October 4, 2015. Following events took place in seven days:

Camp was inaugurated on the 28th Sept. by the State Liaison Officer, Mr. Bikram Singh

Rana. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Harsh Batra congratulated the volunteers for joining the camp

in a large number and wished them well for the seven days of meaningful learning

experiences during the camp.

During the camp in seven days, the volunteers performed Yoga-asanas, Pranayams and

meditation in the morning under the guidance of Sh. Balwinder Acharya, a veteran Yoga

Expert from the tricity.

The volunteers visited Govt. High School, Sector-52 (village Kajheri), Chandigarh and

undertook the survey regarding cleanliness measures to improve sanitation facilities in

this village school. They interacted with the students and imparted knowledge regarding

Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan and the need for pollution free environment and conservation

of natural resources. The volunteers also planned and executed campus beautification

drive and planted of 20 (twenty) herbal saplings in the school campus. The in-charge

teacher of the school Ms. Daljit Kaur appreciated the efforts of college NSS units for this

noble initiative and thanked the volunteers as well as NSS programme officers.

Prof. S. K. Arya, Prof. of Ophthalmology and In-Charge Eye Bank, GMCH-Sector-32

Chandigarh delivered an awareness lecture on Eye Donation in the country. He

highlighted the importance of this noble cause and motivated the volunteers for taking

the pledge for eye donation.

Heats of volleyball and indoor games took place in the evening where the volunteers

enjoyed the games.

Prof. R. K. Dhiman, Head of the dept. of Hepatology and In-Charge, Organ Donation

Cell of PGIMER, Chandigarh delivered an awareness lecture on Organ Donation in the

country. He highlighted the importance of this noble cause and motivated the volunteers

for taking the pledge for organ donation.

The volunteers also visited RIMH, Sector-31, and The Blind School, Sector-26 as well as

Old Age Home Sector-15 along with their teachers.

Mr. Gurmit Singh, Chief Fire Officer of Fire Dept. along with Mr. Navin Kumar and the

team interacted with the students on fire safety and demonstrated the fire fighting

operations in action in the college premises.

Prof. K.P.S Shante, Dean PGGCG-42 and head of the Dept. of Geography delivered a

motivational lecture and interacted with the volunteers inspiring them to work with

dedication for excellence in life. The volunteers also carried out cleanliness drive in the

college campus as part of the Rashtriya Swachchhata Abhiyana.

Groups of volunteers went for door to door survey of Sector-29, Chandigarh regarding

the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) Scheme of the Government of India and the need for

Skill Based Vocational Courses of these households.

Birth anniversaries of Gandhi ji and Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated on Oct.02,

by presentations of Bhajans and songs as well as a organizing a debate competition on

the theme ‘Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shasrti for the youth of the

country in Modern Time’.

The NSS volunteers along with their teachers Dr. Sheojee Singh and Dr. Nisha Singh

observed International Day of Non Violence through the presentations of volunteers and

a group discussion on the Concept and need of Non Violence in our day to day life.

A special lecture cum interaction session was organized for the volunteers to make them

aware of traffic rules and road safety measures. The Chief Marshal (traffic) of

Chandigarh Traffic Police Mr. Gurnam Singh along with Mr. Naveen Kumar, Ms Pooja

and Mr. Paramjit Singh from the Chandigarh Traffic Police interacted with the

volunteers.

The volunteers also discussed the possibilities and challenges in making India plastic free

thereby saving the environment from further degradation.

Various cultural items with powerful social messages were presented by the volunteers in

the concluding session. Experiences were also shared and prizes for various events were

announced by the Chief Guest of the day, Dr. Anurag Sankhian.

LABS UPDATION

The Home Science Lab has been renovated with twenty five multipurpose teak wood chairs and

two self ignition four burners cooktops.

Installation of LCD Projector and Touch screen Interactive board was done in the Guidance and

counseling Unit cum Psychology Lab. Eighteen new tests have also been added in the lab

making a total of about five hundred and sixty.

LED television has been installed in the Educational Technology Lab. of the college.

Antivirus software was uploaded in the twenty computers of the Language Lab. The Lab also

has internet facility and is equipped with various language software. It aims at training

prospective teachers in effective language communication.

In the Computers Lab, Antivirus software were loaded in the required computers. Ten hp make

computers with TFT were purchased. Web site of the college was also updated.

All the labs, library and gymnasium of the college are air conditioned and fully equipped with

the necessary equipments.

CREATIVE IMPULSE

The Department of Fine Arts at Government College of Education, Chandigarh is committed to

professional training of Education in the Teaching of Fine arts. Students choose this subject from

a diverse group of electives and here we provide an opportunity to develop their skills

academically and professionally through a wide variety of educational programs, seminars,

competitions and resources. Regular interaction between the Pupil teachers and the classroom

develops critical thinking and creative growth among them.

The department's courses aim to instill an understanding of and appreciation for the art history,

Teaching methodology and their contributions to the growth and development of Present

Education system. Most of the lessons are taught with the use of smart class education system

which enables the students to access the information and communication technology tools in the

form of laptop and Projector. The presentation of various topics on a wide screen using software

like Power Point presentations, Coral draw, Photoshop, etc has motivated the students to be a

part of Art activities, seminars, attend visiting lectures, demonstrations, and exhibitions to be

familiar with and also develop competency in making a variety of teaching aids, using different

methodologies, and other teaching and learning material.

GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING UNIT CUM PSYCHOLOGY LAB

The college houses a fully functional Guidance and Counselling Unit cum Psychology lab which

is equipped with all the essentials required for the process of Guidance, counselling and

educational research. The lab witnesses up gradation in its infrastructure with every passing year

and is now fully air conditioned, has computer and internet facilities, interactive board, water

dispenser and fire extinguisher. Now lab has around 56 0 psychological tests and apparatus

available in our lab which are extensively used by the students and faculty for their academic

and research ventures. Our college has 24 Hrs. Helpline facilities for providing counselling to

pupil teachers. Every year Mrs. Neelam Dhamija, Retd. Lecturer, MCMDAV College and Head

of Arya Mahila Sangathan and her team visit college and provide personal guidance along with

value orientation to each and every student of the college through her inspirational talks and

individual counselling for six days in an academic session.

MULTIMEDIA CLASSROOM PROJECT

Government College of Education, Chandigarh has been using the multimedia classroom

teaching i.e. the latest way of providing Education through the use of technology. Most of the

lessons are taught with the use of multimedia software and films shown to students with

projector in the classroom. College has 10 fully equipped class rooms with computer podium

(CPU and VDU), Projectors and internet facility which facilitates 100 B.Ed and 50 M.Ed

students a better Teaching-learning environment. Interactive tools allow many different forms of

media – including photos, illustrations, maps, graphs, and videos to be displayed which enables

the students to visualize and understand the concepts easily.

OFF CAMPUS LEARNING

Students of B.Ed were taken to visit State Library, Sector 17, and National Gallery of Portraits,

Sector -17, Chandigarh. Students visited in a group of 50 each with their respective tutorial

group incharges. The visit was supplemented by talk and demonstration by the Librarian of the

state Library and concerned official of the national gallery.

Teaching of Commerce students were taken for a visit by their teacher incharge to the National

Insurance Company, a trading company, Punjab National Bank and WWICS Private Estate Ltd.

RED RIBBON CLUB

1. Chandigarh state AIDS Control Society organized Inter College Competition on

International Youth Day on August 12. Five Students participated in colla3ge making and

Rangoli Competition on August 12, 2015 at Govt. Polytechnic College for Women, Sector-

10 D, Chandigarh.

2.    College Red Ribbon Club celebrated International Youth Day and Oath was

administered on August 12, 2015.

3.    Speech Competition on the theme Sadbhavna Divas was held in the College Hall on

August 20, 2015.

4.     Poster making and Slogan writing Competition which was held in the College campus

on the theme: AIDS Awareness on November 26, 2015.

5.     World AIDS Day was observed on December 1, 2015. A candle light rally was

organized on this day. More than 50 students participated in the rally with Placards in their

hands and raised slogans to eradicate AIDS/HIV and take preventive measures. Rubinderjit

Singh Brar, Director Higher Education flagged off the HIV/AIDS rally from the college.

6.    College Red Ribbon Club organized blood donation camp on March 15, 2016 in the

College campus.

PANJAB UNIVERSITY STUDY CENTRE

The College is Study Centre of Panjab University Chandigarh for B.Ed. Classes through

correspondence mode. Personal contact programme was organized from October 5-19, 2015 and

another was held from February 15-29 ,2016. During these Contact program B.Ed. Semester-I

61 and Semester-III 40, B.Ed. Semester-II 50 and Semester-IV 40 Students are trained

rigorously through lectures, assignments, multimedia Presentations and Practical work. Pre-

internship Programmes and House Examinations were also held. Hannah Augusta and Deepa

Nambiar secured first and fourth positions respectively in the Annual B.Ed. examinations.

Faculty of the College is actively engaged during these Contact Program. Principal Dr. (Mrs.)

Harsh Batra is coordinator of this study centre.

CTET Coaching Classes for B. Ed. Students were held in two phases under the

capacity building programme of the RUSA.

Library visit and Swachchata abhiyan of B. Ed. Students was also initiated under

the RUSA Scheme.

Two day National Seminar on “Quality Concern in Teacher Education” was also

organized under the RUSA grants.

One Day Symposium on Employment Opportunities for Teaching Professionals

was also organized under the RUSA grants.

HOSTELS

There are 53 resident students in girls’ hostel and 38 in boys’ hostel. Students belonging to other

government colleges and institutions also stay with us. The hostel facilities include among others

library, LCD and indoor games. In this session new curtains and LED lights have been installed

in the mess of both the hostels. LED lights have also been installed in the television rooms of the

hostels. A park near the main gate of Girls’ hostel has been maintained.

SWACHH BHARAT MISSION REPORT

The college took initiative to be a part of nationwide cleanliness campaign ‘Swachh Bharat

Mission’ in this session to ensure organization of continuous cleanliness drives at regular

intervals. In light of these measures, the college organized first cleanliness drive on the occasion

of martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi on 30.01.2016. All The students participated in this drive

to clean the surrounding areas in the community nearby the college between 11.15 am to 1.15

pm. Students were divided in four groups to participate at four locations in the community

namely: Near Gurudwara of Sector-20 C, around the temples in Sector-20 D and 20-A, two

public parks in front of the college gate and The market area alongside the PNB branch in

Sector-20 C.

The college organized another RUSA sponsored cleanliness drive at the campus on 19.2.2016

and 20.2.2016 under the initiative of nation wise cleanliness campaign ‘Swachh Bharat

Mission’. All the students of B.Ed. and M.Ed. classes participated in cleanliness drives at the

college campus on both the days tutorial-wise. The prospective teachers were made aware about

the importance of ‘Clean and Healthy India’ by Dr. (Mrs.) Harsh Batra, Principal of the college

before inaugurating the drive. On the first day, all the M.Ed. students and B.Ed. students of

Tutorial groups 9 to 14 participated enthusiastically in the cleanliness drive. On the second day

of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission all the M.Ed. students and B.Ed. students of Tutorial groups 1 to 8

participated in campus cleanliness drive. Students belonging to different tutorial groups were

allotted different areas for cleaning like Labs, ground floor and first floor, play grounds, lawns

etc.

HEALTH AND SPORTS

The 61st Annual Athletic Meet of Government College of Education Chandigarh was

inaugurated on February 10, 2016 by Dr. Renu Verma, Dean of the college. The event began

with the unfurling of college Flag and releasing of balloons. On this occasion, Principal, Govt.

college of Education and other invited guests were prominently present. Khushneet Kaur, a

B.Ed. student took oath on behalf of all participants. As many as 25 track and field and

recreational events were held for students, staff and guests. The breathtaking performances of

participants were simply spectacular. The closing ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Dr.

Parminder Singh, Director Physical Education & Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The

three days Meet was concluded on 10th February with prize distribution.Dr. (Mrs.) Harsh Batra,

Organizing Secretary and Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Paul Assistant Organizer strived hard to organize

this event. Jagdev Singh and Vasudha were adjudged the best athletes among boys and girls

respectively.

During the session 2015-2016 in Games & Sports, students of our college participated in Panjab

University Annual Athletic Meet held at Panjab University grounds. Our college students also

participated in various games and sports competitions. In girls’ category, students participated in

Table Tennis, Badminton, Volley Ball and Basketball competitions during PU Inter College

Competitions. In Basketball, girls secured second position and got silver medal. Volley ball and

Table Tennis team of our college reached semi finals during these competitions. The Badminton

team secured third position and got bronze medal.

COLLEGE LIBRARY

The college library is a sanctum sanatorium of learning process. The library has 40067 books

including Reference collection, Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries, Handbooks and Surveys etc. In

this session 197 books has been added till October 2016. Library subscribes to 70 journals and

newspapers.

The Library offers wide range of information services like reference, bibliographic, current

awareness, orientation and reprographic services etc. Book Bank facility is also provided to

needy students. Organization of different competitions to motivate students to use library

resources has become annual feature of the library.

Library is fully computerized with 7 computers and is linked through LAN. Libsys software has

been installed for library operations. In addition to computerized Issue/Return of books to

students, Barcodes, Spine labels, Catalogue cards and Library cum Identity card (SMART

CARDS) are generated through Libsys software. Library provides OPAC AND INTERNET

SERVICES to staff and students.

To approach e-books and e-journals ‘N-LIST programme of INFLIBNET’ has been

subscribed for college faculty and M.Ed. students.

and indexed international journal with impact factor. Dr. Anjali also contributed her paper in

Dr. Balwinder Kaur’s research paper was published in a peer reviewed and International Journal

Indian Journal of Applied Research with impact Factor. Her another paper was pubished in

journal of advanced studies in education and management published by Keharnam Memorial

Educational Society, Ludhiana. Dr. Balwinder also contributed a paper during International

conference proceedings sponsored by CDC Panjab University Chandigarh in Collaboration with

World Punjabi Council Toronto Confederation College, Ontario, Canada which was published in

the conference proceedings.

A co-authored paper by Dr. Meena has been approved for publication in the Indian Educational

Review by N.C.E.R.T., New Delhi. Another paper by Dr. Meena entitled Usage of Facebook in

Education has been published in the Journal of Indian Education, by N.C.E.R.T., New Delhi.

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar authored a research paper which was published in Online International

Interdisciplinary Research Journal with Impact Factor. Another paper of Dr. Sanjeev got

published in Conflux Journal of Education- a Peer Reviewed, Indexed, International Journal,

published by Nas publishers, Malappuram, Kerala.

Dr. Sheojee Singh contributed a research paper in International Journal of Management and

Social Development. One of his papers was also published in an International Pezzottaite

Journal.

Dr. Punam Bansal collaborated with editorial board of ‘International Journal of Educational

Policy Research’ and reviewed its manuscript. A research paper of Dr. Punam Bansal was

published in ‘Journal of Advanced Studies in Education and Management’ published by Bhutta

college of education, Ludhiana. Her another paper got published in refereed International Journal

of School of Basic and Applied Sciences’ Maharaja Agarsen University,Baddi. Dr. Bansal also

Paul was published in Indian Journal of Psychology and Mental Health.

Dr. Kusum authored a paper on Hindi Language in Global Perspective which was published in a

journal published by Kanya Maha Vidhyalaya, Jalandhar.

INTERNATIONAL ENTERPRISE

Dr. Jasvir Chahal acted as a resource person during 13th International Conference on Spirituality

and Management at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College, Sri Anandpur Sahib on November

27, 2015.

Dr. Meena presented her paper at International Gandhi Jayanti Conference 2015 on Education as

a basic right of Humankind on October 3-4, 2015 in New Delhi organized by Indialogue

Foundation, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Jamia Milia Islamia and Gandhi Smiriti

and Darshan Smiti. This paper was also published in the conference proceedings. She presented

another paper at 3rd International Conference on Booming Service Sector from Achievements to

Growth Prospects on February 4-5, 2016 at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce,

University of Delhi which was also published in the conference proceedings.

The biographical profile of Dr. Punam Bansal got published in Asian American Who’s Who

(vol.VII), Asian Admirable Achievers (vol. VIII), 2015, Famous India: Nation’s Who’s Who

and Asia/Pacific Who’s Who (vol.XIII).

Dr. Neelam Paul presented her paper at Global Conference on Scientific culture in Physical

Education and Sports sponsored by ICSSR organised by Dept. of Physical Education, Punjabi

University, Patiala on February 18-20, 2016 which was also published in the conference

proceedings.

NATIONAL LEVEL PERSPECTIVE

Dr. Mrs. Harsh Batra was the organizing secretary for RUSA sponsored National Seminar on

Quality Concerns in Teacher Education held in the college on February 24-25, 2016. Dr. Renu

Verma was the convenor and Dr. Sapna Nanda was the co-ordinator for the same. Principal Dr.

Mrs. Harsh Batra and majority of the faculty members presented their papers during this

seminar. These papers will also be published in the conference proceedings.

Dr. Jasvir Chahal acted as a resource person and delivered a talk at National Seminar on

Conflict in Contemporary India at DAV College of Education, Amritsar on March 12, 2016. Dr.

Dr. Ajay Kumar Srivastava, Dr. Anjali Puri and Dr. Anurag Sankian presented their papers

during RUSA Sponsored National Seminar on Ethics and Social Responsibility in Context of

Indian Higher Education and Research at PG Govt. College, Sector 46, Chandigarh on January

30, 2016.

Dr. Sapna Nanda, Dr. Anjali Puri, Dr. Anurag Sankhian, Dr. Sheojee Singh and Mr. Lilu Ram

presented papers at CDC, PU Sponsored National Seminar at Dev Samaj of Education,

Chandigarh on January 29, 2016. These papers were published in the conference proceedings in

the form of a book with ISBN.

Dr. Mukhtiar Singh presented a paper at Bhasha Vibhag Punjab, Patiala sponsored National

Seminar on Samkali Nari Kavita organized by PG Govt. College, Sector 46, Chandigarh on

March 14, 2016. Dr. Singh also presented a parer at DHE, Haryana Sponsored National Seminar

on “Guru Granth Sahib: Vichar Dharak Paripekh” at Markanda National College, Shahbad

Markanda on February 11, 2016.

Mr. Lilu Ram presented a paper during ICSSR Sponsored National Seminar on Quality

Parameters in Higher Education and Teacher Training organized at Shree Satya Sai B.Ed.

College, Karaiwala, Muktsar on August 30-31, 2015.

Dr. Vandana Aggarwal and Dr. Vijay Phogat presented their papers at ICSSR sponsored

National Seminar on Media Technologies: A Critical Evaluation organized by University

School of Open Learning, Panjab University, Chandigarh on February 16, 2016.

Dr. Neelam Paul presented paper at National Seminar cum Workshop on Yoga, accredited and

sponsored by Central Council of Research in Yoga and Naturopathy organised by Directorate of

sports, P.U. Chd. on June 21, 2015. Dr. Paul also presented paper at National Seminar on

Quality Assurance and Quality Sustenance at GPC, Alour, Khanna on March 16, 2016.

Dr. Vijay Phogat presented his paper during National Seminar at BMCE, Sonepat on December

19, 2015.

STATE AND COLLEGE LEVEL INITIATIVES

Dr. Mrs. Harsh Batra is the Member of Committees to formulate recommendation norms for

elementary and senior secondary teachers, Deputy DEO, DEO, Deputy Director Schools and

Principals School Cadre, Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh. Dr. Mrs. Harsh Batra is also

the Member of Committees to recommend the norms for conferring National as well as State

awards for teachers; Executive District Literary Council and State Advisory Committee for

Adolescent Programme. She acted as member of various selection committees for selection of

Principals and lecturers of Education Colleges affiliated to Panjab University.

Dr. Renu Verma was designated as Dean and Dr. Jasvir Chahal was designated as Vice

Principal, Government College of Education, Sector 20 D, Chandigarh. Dr. Renu Verma is also

coordinating the research activities of Research Resource Centre.

College organized Two RUSA Sponsored Workshops in lesson planning in all the teaching

subjects taught in our college were held on December 8, 2015 and February 26, 2016. Eminent

Educationists and faculty of various colleges participated in these workshop. Dr. Sapna Nanda

acted as coordinator in the Science and Home Science category; Dr. A.K. Srivastava acted as

coordinator in the Languages Category and Dr. Anurag Sankhian contributed as coordinator in

the Social Science category. All the faculty members of our college acted as resource persons

during these workshops. The association between various parts in the same unit, the selection

and organization of subject-matter, materials and activities in the lesson plan were discussed in

detail. Model lesson plans in the related subjects were also prepared. Dr. Harsh Batra acted as

Organizing Secretary for these workshops. One RUSA Sponsored Workshop on Financial

Planning was also held on 12.2.16.

Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Dr. Neelam Paul and non teaching staff members attended RUSA

sponsored Workshop on Financial Rules and Record Keeping held at our college on February

12, 2016. Dr. Srivastava also acted as Subject Expert for TGT interviews held at Department of

Education, Chandigarh Administration on July 6, 2015.

Dr. Anjali Puri and Dr. Punam Bansal are the life members of AIAER.

Dr. Sapna Nanda is Member, School Management Development Committee, Chandigarh

Administration and Joint Secretary, Chandigarh Amateur Softball Association, Chandigarh

Chapter. Dr. Nanda has also been elected as Vice-President of Indian Dietetic Association,

Chandigarh Chapter.

Our faculty members are performing admission, evaluation and examination duties in the

college, university and other colleges. Majority of them are paper setters of various universities.

Dr. Anurag Sankhian acted as Observer appointed by CBSE, New Delhi for the All India Pre-

Medical/Pre-dental Entrance Examination at Delhi Police Public School, New Delhi on May 3,

2015.

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar is the Life Member of AIAER and IATE.

Dr. Vandana Aggarwal attended RUSA sponsored Workshop on “Financing of Higher

Education” organized under the aegis of Department of Higher Education, Chandigarh

Administration at Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls on November 05, 2015. Dr. Vandana ia

also the Member State Resource Group of Biology constituted by State Project Director-cum-

DPI(S), Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Society,UT, Chandigarh and Member State Resource Group for

training of SMDC members under RMSA for all secondary schools constituted by State Project

Director-cum-DPI(S),Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, UT, Chandigarh.

Mrs. Atasi Sinhababu presented paper at 6th Chandigarh Social Science Congress”, Panjab

University, Chandigarh on February 25-26, 2016.

VISITS BY THE FACULTY

Dr. Renu Verma acted as a judge in the painting competition at the District as well as national

level organized by Director, Human Resource Development, Bhakra Beas Management Board,

Chandigarh.

Dr. Jasvir Chahal was invited for a talk on the topic ‘Networking: Electronic & Social – The

New Age challenge to independent thinking’ at Department of Education, Panjab University on

March 11, 2016.

Dr. Anjali Puri acted as Resource person for the Course coordinators of SSA and delivered two

lectures on September 15 and 17, 2015 at GMSSS-22-A. Dr. Puri also acted as Resource person

for the students of Department of Educational Technology and Vocational Education, Panjab

University and delivered lecture titled, “Independent Thinking: Hallmark of a Healthy

Personality” on November 23, 2015

Dr. Anurag Sankhian and Dr. Punam Bansal acted as Subject Experts for the selection of

PRT/TGT Social Science and and PGT Biology respectively at DAV Public Senior Secondary

School, Mohali during April, 2015.

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar acted as resource person to deliver the lecture on Bloom’s Taxonomy at

Navodaya Vidayalaya Training Institute. Dr. Sheojee Singh contributed as a judge for the

International year of Light and Light related Technologies at Carmel Convent School during

November 2015.

Dr. Vandana Aggarwal visited Indo-Global Colleges, Abhipur for a PTU sponsored Faculty

Development Programme for Technical Teachers and delivered a lecture on Effective Teaching

and Learning.

Dr. Punam Bansal delivered a talk on undertaking Action Research to cluster resource

coordinators under SSA at GMSS, Sector 10, Chandigarh.

Dr. Kusum acted as a resource person in One Day Training cum Workshop on Guidelines of

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India organized on September 30, 2015 at

Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, Chandigarh.

CURRICULAR CONTRIBUTIONS

Some of our faculty members are acting as guest faculty at RIMH, Sector 31 in their respective

teaching subjects. Various faculty members acted as subject experts for the revision of Panjab

University B.Ed. and M.Ed. curriculum for the session 2015-2016. Faculty members are also

engaged in the coaching classes for CTET course and Personal Contact Programme classes of

B.Ed. Correspondence course of Panjab University.

ACADEMIC ATTAINMENTS

Out of faculty of twenty one, twenty are doctorate. Majority of our faculty members are acting

as supervisors for guiding M.Ed. and Ph.D. research work. Six students of Dr. Renu Verma

have been awarded Ph.D. One student of Dr. Sapna Nanda has also been awarded Ph.D.

degree.

IN SERVICE TRAINING

The following are the details of Refresher Courses undertaken by faculty members during the

session. Dr. Sheojee Singh attended NSS orientation programme for NSS programme officers at

Centre of Development and Communication, sector-38, Chandigarh in September 2015. Mr. Lilu

Ram attended short term course for Assistant Professors grade III-IV organized by UGC-HRDC,

Panjab University, Chandigarh from September 22-28, 2015. Dr. Neelam Paul attended

Refresher Course in Physical Education from Punjabi University, Patiala from May 23, 2015 to

June 13, 2015 and secured ‘A’ grade. Dr. Paul also attended RUSA sponsored seven days

training workshop on Research Methodology held under the aegis of Dept. of Higher Education,

PANJAB UNIVERSITY ASSIGNMENTS

Mr. Lilu Ram is acting as Member of Senate of Panjab University from November 2012 to

October 2016. He is also acting as Member of Faculty of Arts, Science, Education, Business

Management and Commerce.

Dr. Mrs. Harsh Batra, Dr. Sapna Nanda and Dr. Anurag Sankhian are acting as Members,

Faculty of Education, Panjab University. Dr. Sapna Nanda and Dr. Sanjeev Kumar acted as

Members, Academic Council, Panjab University. Dr. Harsh Batra, Dr. Sapna Nanda and Dr.

Punam Bansal are the Members of Board of Studies, Education, Panjab University. Dr. Harsh

Batra is nominated member, Board of Studies, Mechanical Engineering and Yoga and

Ayurvedic Studies. Dr. Harsh Batra is also Deputy Coordinator for B.Ed. Admissions of

Panjab University and the Member of Selection Committee for the selection of lecturers and

principals in the colleges affiliated to Panjab University.

Dr. Jasvir Chahal was nominated as Co-ordinator of joint B.Ed. and M.ED. admissions to the

colleges affiliated to Panjab University for the session 2015-17 by Vice-chancellor of the

university.

Dr. Neelam Paul acted as Elected Member, P.U. Sports Executive Committee for session 2015-

16 and Chairperson of the eligibility committee for the smooth conduct of the All India Inter

University Netball (M&W) Championship at Panjab University from March 14-19, 2016. Dr.

Paul also acted as selector for selection of Volleyball teams (Men& Women) of Panjab

University for All India Intervarsity Competitions 2015-16. She also contributed her services as

an observer for Volleyball Inter College Competitions for Men & Women 2015-16.

EDUCATION FOR ALTRUISM

1. Most of the teachers made sincere efforts to solve the problems of the students in the class.
