What is Purpose? What is MY Purpose? Why am I here? Who Am I? What am I, Where Am I?To BE or NOT to BE....

Any of those questions sound familiar? OUR struggles with PURPOSE, have a lot to do withIDENTITY, VALUE, PASSION & GOALS.

PURPOSE is NOT the same thing as DESTINY - That has other implications, perhapsoverlapping...And some may not even be realistic. Perhaps much of what we think of as destiny ismore fantasy and imagined than anything else. Destiny and Goals are not to be confused.

Purpose can often be GUIDED by our roots, our wiring, our personality, our likes, our dislikes, ourbackground, our history. ANCESTRY.com - is HUGE because people want to know who they are,

and why they are which helps them determine, where they are going. Those two things becomeanchors for them to triangulate off of. Points on a Compass to help them determine, where NORTHis.

WHO STRUGGLES with Purpose? Pre-teens, teens, young single adults, college students, youngmarried couples, young mothers, mothers of teens, parents of grown adults, widows, orphans, adopted children, newly retired individuals, seniors...I WOULD SAY its safe to assume, we ALLstruggle with PURPOSE throughout life. Our lives are ever changing, and so the purpose changeswith each station in life.

NOW thats not to be a downer, thats to excite us. To help us to understand that there are CYCLES,

there are SEASONS. Keeps the ADVENTURE fresh. Because its not about striving for theMOMENT of PURPOSE but what is the PURPOSE in the MOMENT. Not waiting for FINAL GOAL,but EVERY DAY has its goal!

Remember the song from the 60s Turn, Turn Turn, right out of Eccl.3...

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:A time to be born, die; a time to plant, reap, break down, build up, embrace, lovehate, war, peace, weep, laugh, mourn, dance etc.,

    GOT PURPOSE?

HOW WE BELIEVE WHAT WE DO WHO WE ARE

The Bible is very clear as to what our purpose in life should be. Men in both the Old and New Testaments soughfor and discovered lifes purpose. Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, discovered the futility of life when

it is lived only for this world. He gives these concluding remarks in the book of Ecclesiastes: "Here is theconclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God willbring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil"(Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).Solomon says that life is all about honoring God with our thoughts and lives and thus keeping Hiscommandments, for one day we will stand before Him in judgment. Part of our purpose in life is to fear Godand obey Him.

Another part of our purpose is to see life on this earth in perspective. Unlike those whose focus is on thislife, King David looked for His satisfaction in the time to come. He said, "And Iin righteousness I will see yourface; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness" (Psalm 17:15). To David, full satisfaction wouldcome on the day when he awoke (in the next life) both beholding God's face (fellowship with Him) and being likeHim (1 John 3:2).

Without that relationship, life has no real purpose.

The apostle Paul talked about all he had achieved religiously before being confronted by the risen Christ, andhe concluded that all of it was like a pile of manurecompared to the excellence of knowing Christ Jesus. InPhilippians 3:9-10, Paul says that he wants nothing more than to know Christ and be found in Him, to haveHis righteousness and to live by faith in Him, even if it meant suffering and dying. Pauls purpose was knowingChrist, having a righteousness obtained through faith in Him, and living in fellowship with Him, even when thatbrought on suffering (2 Timothy 3:12). Ultimately, he looked for the time when he would be a part of the"resurrection from the dead."

Our purpose in life, as God originally created man, is1) glorify God and enjoy fellowship with Him, 2) havegood relationships with others, 3) work, and 4) have dominion over the earth. But with man's fall into sin,

fellowship with God is broken, relationships with others are strained, work seems to always be frustrating, andman struggles to maintain any semblance of dominion over nature. Only by restoring fellowship with God,through faith in Jesus Christ, can purpose in life be rediscovered.

    1. Hard times do NOT mean, a lack of or missed purpose. Sometimes those things arepermitted to incorporate, shore up and weave into our character aspects needed to fulfillour purpose. Any more than a STORM at Sea, means they arent on or cant get back onCourse

    2. ALL things work together for the Good of those who love God, to those who are calledaccording to HIS PURPOSE...Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus

    FOUR POINT ON COMPASS

    1. IDENTITY- HOW Do you align yourself? What is youranchor? What measurement/standard do you Identifywith? GOD Has declared HE LOVES YOU, and you areCalled to enter into a relationship with HIM. Will YOU?

you value, because where ever your heart is focused, thats where your treasure is. What do YOU Value?

    3. PASSION- What do you DO, that you LOVE, ENJOY,GET SATISFACTION FROM? How could God usethat? How Might God use it?

    4. GOALS- What HOPE do you have, What outcome doyou want to see? What Dream Might you long for?

THESE FOUR POINTS have minor points and they all play into

    Define PURPOSE -

    1. The REASON for which something is created, done, or exists - - -2. An Intention - Objective, determination, intended outcome and/or result3. An Object, tangible or intangible, for which one strives, aims to achieve

MOSES - DELIVERER of the CHILDREN OF ISRAEL!Born to a Jewish family, set aloft in a raft, adopted by an Egyptianprincess. Grew up in a pagan home, with all kinds of ideologiesand gods. Raised to be a Egyptian warrior, according to Jewishtradition, he was a leader in their military. He supervised andoversaw building projects in Egypt. He was raised in the house ofa King, a god, the World power of the time. THEN He finds out hehas a different lineage. HE IS A JEW...his people are in slavery,HE HAD AN IDENTITY ISSUE! A CRISIS! WHATs MY PURPOSE?

God puts it in his heart to want to deliver the people. He sees aslave being unrighteously abused, and he kills the taskmaster. Now there is a hunt on for his life. He Flees to the backside of adesert, gets married has some kids, and raises sheep for 40years! DID HE MISS THE SHIP? Talk about an Identity crisis!

He had to re-align himself to GOD Almighty, see his value in the call of God, and theequipping of God, and use his passion for leading, shepherding and military expertise toexecute the purpose which was to deliver the people of God in GODs Name and GODsStrength.

Moses may have thought that he MISSED the opportunity, He BLEW it - when he reacted andkilled the taskmaster. He may even have QUESTIONED GOD - Why did I FAIL? I Missed it?

It wasnt until, His Identity was fully submitted to recognize who God was, and who that madeHIM....It wasnt until he saw His place/value, and valued GOD more than himself...It wasntuntil he knew how to utilize his passions for leading, delivering and action to bring worktoward the goal and in unity with the purpose of GOD for them all.

Even though He did so much, He still DID NOT see the fulfillment of the PROMISES.

IS THISPURPOSE?Here is one such story. A young woman married apreacher, and certainly with excitement, howeverhumble, knew she was to support his endeavors, his work, raise a godly family andhelp with aflourishing church - ah, ... her purpose.

As a new bride, hope and potential loomed ahead. But, few knew that hopeless conditions seemed toplague her. Many people start to loose sight oftheir own purpose the moment hard times hit.

The difficulties we face, seem to challenge ourdrive, our resolve and our focus, often calling to usto compromise

This woman, married a man who was a strongpreacher, but couldnt manage money. Theydisagreed on everythingfrom money to politics. Her husband left her to raise the children alonefor long periods of time. This was sometimes oversomething as simple as an argument. There was

little money for food or anything.

Debt plaguedthem. Her husband was once thrown into debtorsprison because their debt was so high, compounding their problems. Their home wasburned to the ground by arsons probably becausethey didnt like what her husband preached fromthe pulpit. Their cow was mutilated. Someonekilled their dog, burned their fields, and cut theircows udders so they wouldnt have milk for thefamily.

If that werent all, of her 19 children, 10 diedduring infancy, she was often ill herself trying toraise a family, mostly alone. One child wascrippled, another child was didnt speak till 6years old and one of her daughters got pregnantout of wedlock and never married the father.

She knew that one day her hard life would be overand she alone would stand before the throne ofGod and give an account of how she lived her life.

I think I would have lost my sense of purposealong the way, But she knew her purpose wasultimately to do everything she could to raise thechildren she had in the ways of the Lord. Shecommitted herself to prayer, and to the word ofGod in all things, she disciplined herself as well as

her 10 children, never ceasing to pray for them hewhole life.

TWO of those children impacted and changed thworld. Her sons, John and Charles Wesley werepowerhouses for the glory of God. John Wesleypreached to nearly a million people in his day. Atthe age of 70 he delivered the gospel message ofsalvation to 32,000 people- without the use of amicrophone! He brought revival everywhere he

traveled! His brother Charles wrote over 9000hymns, many of which we still sing today.

Sometimes our purpose is part of a largerplan. Sometimes our purpose is to initiateto be the trail blazer, the one that goesbefore others whowill widen the road.Point man in roughterrain. She wasdevoted to her walkwith Christ, praying forher children andknowledge in the Wordno matter how hard lifewas.

Another such story of Ida, a young girl whose parents arranged a marriage to their friend whowas 20 years her senior, within a year of marrying, and having twin girls, she was abandoned. The children became ill with small pox and one of the little girls died. As a young mother, andsingle, she became a low paid worker, finding her self in the cotton fields of Louisiana. Shefound herself fighting the constant battle of poverty. After many years her daughter marriedand had a little girl and took in her mother, Ida. For years she lived together with her

daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter in a 19 foot trailer. Ida helped to care for and raiseher grand-daughter while her adult daughter went to work. Ida also was a woman of prayer.Having never remarried she devoted her self to living the best she knew how as a prayingwoman. She died having seen the grand-daughter she deposited so much into, develop atremendous relationship with the Lord. During a family visit, two of her great grand daughterswere told by Ida, I prayed for you, before you were even born. She didnt get to see all theywould become as she passed away nearly 20 years ago. But Her grand-daughter Wavalynmentored many young ladies in the Lord, two of her great grand daughters run ministries, anda other great grand children are involved in various ministries. I am one of those great granddaughters.

Hebrews 11:13 &39These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar offwere assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrimson the earth...And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receivethe promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be madeperfect apart from us....

Much of fulfilling purpose is attitude. Not to be looking at others in comparison, but for learning. To be gratefu

and self aware. To be engaged in the process rather than looking for the gratification. To be Diligent, Hopeful and

Willing. It has to do with Integrity and Faith. A person of character will have the courage to persevere and take

necessary calculated risks. ATTITUDE = ALTITUDE - Aviation terms - Is your nose up or down?

ATTITUDEThe primary aircraft angles in the state vector; pitch, roll, and yaw; (where is the nose aiming?)

ALTITUDEHeight, usually with respect to the terrain below (radar altitude, feetabove closest dirt) or fixed earth reference

OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE. FRUIT IS MORE VALUABLE THAN GIFTS.IF WE ARENT WILLING TO BE OBEDIENT, NO AMOUNT OF GIVING TO GOD, FOR GOD OR

SACRIFICES IS ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY OUR DISOBEDIENCE.

GOD WILL NOT PERMIT US TO FULFILL WHAT HE HAS CALLED US TO UNLESS WE REPENT.

WHY? BECAUSE HE GUARDS HIS REPUTATION -

    TRUE FAITH LEADS TO

OBEDIENCEBecause if we believe, our actions follow that. Actions become the evidence of what

we believe. To say we believe but do not act on it, shows a false witness, that we are

lying about what we say we believe...if we truly believe actions are the outcome of it.

Will we obey? Obedience is better than sacrifice. It is what is required of those to

whom God desires to entrust riches. Because faithfulness is produced by

    obedience, which roduces character.

and desires that we would flourish like them...The palm trees Scripture identifies are

the Date Palm Trees of the Middle East, which were amazing. During the Biblical times, there

was a 360 day calendar. And they had 360 uses for the date Palm tree, aside from its fruit, it

had medicinal value, building value, matts, medicine, salves, oils, ointments, beams, ropes, etc., aside from refreshing shade. It was a staple, and used every day! We are to be like

that. The Root system was amazing, because in-spite of the desert

surroundings it would go so deep to find under ground water

sources and draw it up to grant life. It was a symbol of

    resurrection, praise, celebration and life.

You are the planting of the LORD.Isaiah 61:3

Consider SEEDs. Do they look like the fruit they come from? Can you tell from what you see, whatwill come of it? Within the Seed is enough DNA to miraculously bring forth some of the mostamazing vegetation.

When we look at a seed, can we tell what it will produce because it looks like the end product? Not

usually, And its the same with us. We are not all that God has proclaimed of us, or all that HEdesires of us, or what we can become. The more we submit to Him, and recklessly abandon our livesin obedience to Him, the more amazing the outcome.

BUT there is a RISK - DEATH of the seed. Into the ground, and covered in dirt, humbled, and our outer shell disintegrated as we germinate in the word ofGod and the Love of Jesus Christ. Jesus spoke of this when He said, unless a seed go into the ground and die, it abides alone....but if it dies itbears much fruit...John 12:24

The righteous will flourish like the palm tree.Psalms 92:12

    One Day while going to

    Walmart, thinking, I was simply

    going toreward myself with

    some items, while shopping a

woman with a bandage on her

face walked up to me whileperusing the sale merchandise,

started talking to me and asking

if I thought the bandage on her

face was hideous. I tried to

avoid her several times but she

    persisted. Finally I was struck,

    with a moment of purpose.

To listen to her life, to minister

life to her, to pray with her and

perhaps help to orient her to

    Christ.

We prayed I left the store full,

    but empty handed.

The Highest holy day of Satanic

    worship. I cant stand halloween

but my neighbors and all their kids

    seem to love it. Completely

ignorant to the roots regardless of

    how many horror shows are

watched or evil costumes arepurchased and worn. So What do

I do now? I was struck this year

with a moment of purpose. I

considered it a giant prayer line to

my front door. With Candy in hand

I looked at the array of people

engage them in a conversation an

    ask their names. Someone asked

why, I said, cause I want to pray fo

you this year. So I wrote theirnames down, prayed for them not

just that day but for many days

    afterwards...

Satan, may get mad, who cares!

    BRING IT!

While at a church several years

    ago, the worship team had

    disintegrated. I was asked by

the pastor to lead the team, but

having no experience doing so I

refused, On three differentoccasions. I had no business

    leading worship, though I could

sing well, Ive never played an

    instrument, couldnt read music

and didnt know what a chord

or key was. After the third

refusal I was struck, with a

    moment of purpose. To

    Worship, to encourage, to equip

and engage God and others in

    expressive praise.
