Got Life

The Church That Did

No doubt every church pulpit across America will flow with words of expectations for the new year.

Some will talk about the up coming plans to expand, do more, create more, and buy more.

But how many of them will focus on spreading the Gospel? No, I’m not talking about growing church ministry, but reaching out to the disenfranchised, the diseased in spirit, those who have given up on God and the super religious lost?

There was a church many, many years ago that did that. Even though they were faced with financial hardship, persecution, and ethnic rifts, they pressed on determined to spread the Gospel.

The early church was faced with many of the same things that plague the “modern” church.

Now if I may juxtapose for a moment. The concept of “the modern church” is a nice way of saying “the unfocused church”. We have become so set on Sunday attendance, how many programs a church has, or how to market the pastor to make “our church” more attractive.

But the early church had one concern. Spreading the gospel. Paul could care less how many billboards his face was on, or how many people knew that he

personally knew Apostle Peter of the First Greater Church of Jerusalem.

They set out to spread the Gospel throughout the known world. And guess what? They did just that.

Not only did they spread the Gospel, but they saw many souls come to God. They didn’t want people to join their church, they wanted souls to be born into the family.

If the church today is to survive, we must loose the concept of Sunday attendance numbers, and get back to the desperate need to see souls born into the Kingdom. Just like the early church did it, we can do it - reach the world with the Gospel.

Happy New Year to you!

I pray that you are walking into this new year with your eyes wide open, your arms uplifted and your ears open to God’s direction.

2010 was a great year, and 2011 will be a greater year because God made it. I know there are people who insist on complaining at the end of each year, but I encourage you to, in the words of Pastor Kim Burrell, “use your happy”.

The Apostles Paul often warned us of the trials and tribulations of life. But he also let us know that “in every thing we are to rejoice”.

I remember the old Shirley Ceasear song, “this joy that I have the world didn’t give and the world can’t take it away!” In 2011, don’t give anyone your joy.

I’ve preached to myself already my New Year’s message and it goes like this, “It’s not if God can, but if I will. What 2011 produces will be predicated on if I step out on what God has already made happen. It’s not if God will provide the Seed Offering, but will I give it. It’s not if God will provide my First Fruit Offering, but will I step out and give it. God already has, so what am I waiting for!”

The miracles that will happen will not be a result of if God will do it, but if I will get in the secret place to see them happen.

If we want to make this THE YEAR, then we will have to do the work and make the move, because God has already made His move.

As Bishop has stated, yes the enemy will fight us. After all that’s his job. But just because he’s doing his job we should not shy away from doing our assignment.

Let’s grab the vision and walk in it!

Jesus is the Reason for Every Season:Happy New Year to All

By Bishop Brenda K. Perry

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulders: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

December 22, early, while kneeling in prayer, this scripture came to me so much so that I began to quote it during my prayer time. It turned my heart from heaviness to gladness and thanksgiving. Truly a Child was born and truly a Son was given. We serve such a great and awesome God, who provided Himself to bring redemption to lost humanity.

When we look at the gospel story of the birth of Jesus you see the fulfillment of Isaiah 9:6, as well as Isaiah 7:14 which reads, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” Matthew 1:21 translates “Immanuel” as “God with us”. When you read Isaiah 9:6 it clearly speaks of one God, and in His greatness He clearly demonstrated the manifestation of Himself by bringing redemption to man. Psalm 145:3 says, “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.” Our little finite mind cannot comprehend the greatness of

our God, so we continue to place Him in our world and into our box.

My thought is to express the great and mighty God we serve. It’s sad to say that many cannot see or do not want to see “His eternal power and Godhead.” We know that Jesus was all man and all God, but being all man yet without sin. The sins of the father are passing on down to the children and no one is exempt, man or woman. Luke 1: 35 let us know the Holy Spirit will come to Mary and the power

Building on the word of GOD

John 1:1

By Minister Isaac Bazile

The scripture says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD.” So you ask yourself, how can I build on the word of God when it belongs to God who created everything? The answer is we can’t, but it is the word that builds us.

Jesus said,”I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). We who proclaim Jesus Christ as our Savior, and believe in his salvation, are that church. What Jesus was saying is “Let the devil and all of his demons gather and plot as to how to stop me from building My church and they can not”. Jesus was declaring he would develop his people. Christ is about being forever in the life of every individual believer and all collective bodies of believers.

of the Highest shall over shadow her. Yes, we may celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas, but His death, burial and resurrection are celebrated as well. He gave of Himself so we may have life and that more abundantly, now and in the life to come. Jesus is the reason for every time frame of your life.

Whether you a diehard believer or not, I want you to focus on what Isaiah 9:6 says, for there are no words that can justly express who and how vast God is. If we truly believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder to those that diligently seek Him, then we must believe He will supply all your needs, physical, spiritual, mentally and financially, whatever you need, according to His riches and glory.

As we come into this New Year let us lift up and proclaim our God. I could go through each name and expound endlessly on each one. If you love Him like you say you do, let’s show more than we have ever done. He is waiting on us to show His glory to the lost and dying world. Now that He is born and given to you, what are you going to do with Him?

there would be neither death nor resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You can eliminate the stress and debt by just keeping Jesus as the main focus. The world and the devil are working very hard to take Christ out of Christmas. If they cannot “X” Him out, or “Happy Holiday” Him out, well the next best thing is to “commercialize” Him out. Christmas, along with all seasons, is about Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

Life from page 2

He used the construction of a building as an occasion to build the children of God in the faith and make them cohesive or come together in unity. When you and I first came to Christ, we were like a vacant lot with nothing on it but the ugly debris of sin. Then we realized through the word that it was Christ who purchased us by the shedding of his precious blood. Repentance took place and the debris of sin began to be removed from our lives, and the foundation of the word, through faith, began to take hold of our spirit and our hearts.

In order for God to build us, we must first have a solid foundation. Jesus is that foundation. He is the solid foundation. The reason people have such misery with life is that they attempt to build their lives on shaky ground. Their foundation is not solid.

Remember the story of the man who built his house on sand? In Matt 7:26-27, it likens this man "unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

"For we are laborers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon." (1 Cor. 3:9-10)

If we build on a proper foundation and with the proper

materials, then there will be no carnality--there will be no division, no weakness. We cannot build with wood, hay and stubble, with division and partiality and expect

God to be pleased with our work. I am glad God found me worthy enough to build me into his church by his word, how about you?

“Lessons Learned”

Throughout time, women have shared their joys and sorrows, thoughts and feelings, experiences and life lessons with one another. The tradition continues; we are learning how to embrace one another when time permits.

How many can remember growing up and your mom gave you some advice you did not follow, and the very thing she gave you advice about turned out just as she said? Did you go back and say mom you were right, or do you just keep to yourself and deal with the out come of the matter?

We are in a New Year with new and old thoughts. Some people have set goals for this year. For some reason, I had a hard time writing this article this month. I know several very good friends going through a rough time right now until it’s very hard to wrap my head around it because I just don’t understand why they have to go through this pain, from sickness, loss of employment, financial hardship, and family problems beyond their control. I am

learning you always don’t have to say anything, just be there if they need you.

You have to really be wise with the words you say to a person facing hardships. You can say you understand, but we are really not going through that pain or discomfort. When you don’t have an encouraging word, it’s good not to say anything because you can do more harm than good.

I have learned how to weigh my words that I say to others even though they smile like they agree when they really don’t. What I’ve said may even be truth, but the expression on their face spoke louder than that person’s words could ever speak.

I have learned to consider my husband feelings as well when speaking to him because they are important as well, again remembering the wisdom from my mom.

I have learned how to be quick to listen and slow to speak, James 1:19. I believe this is very important when dealing with someone going through hardship, trying to encourage or just communicating with others.

These are just a few lessons learned. What about you? What has God reminded you of this year? What changes do you think you may need to consider making while dealing with others and hardships?

Once again peace and blessing

Forget What’s Behind

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14

Perhaps more sermons have been preached on the above scripture than on any other in the bible.

It is only when we grasp and put into action this verse that we can move forward with no inhabitations. Satan spends a great deal of time “reminding” us of past mistakes and pass sins. To press into our God-given assignment, it takes “divine forgetting” of the pass. It is through true repentance that makes what we have done in the pass of no concern to God.

Couples In Unity

Giving Thanks

Peace. What is peace and can we have it in our marriage? The word peace have many definitions, but let’s just go with one. Peace means untroubled by conflict, agitation or commotion, and yes we can have this peace in our marriage. Peace doesn’t come by us just saying peace Lord, peace Lord. It takes more effort on our part.

The first thing we have to do is to let our mind be controlled by the Spirit of the Lord. If we let our minds be controlled by our sinful nature, we promote death and there is no peace in this death. If we let our minds be controlled by the Spirit, we will promote life and peace, plus we get a bonus which is bringing pleasure to the Lord Jesus Christ in which we all want to do. Now let’s check that out in Romans 8:6-8(NLT). “If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God”.

If our sinful nature is controlling us, that means we are feeding it the wrong food. In order for anything to get fat it has to be fed something. If we are feeding it lust, confusion, faithlessness, hopelessness, negativity

and such like, we will never have peace and never please God. The best food for our mind and heart is the word of God. It’s positive, hopeful, faithful, and full of clarity, strength and peace. There are some nuggets in the word that we probably have not grasped yet. Like money answereth all things, found in Ecclesiastes 10:19. Scripture recognizes that money is necessary for survival, but warns against the love of it. God knows it takes money for our survival in this world and the lack there of can cause us not to have peace. We get trapped into thinking money can meet all our needs and throw it at our problems. That’s just it. We trust money rather than God to solve our problems, and we who pursue its empty promises will one day discover that we have nothing because we are spiritually bankrupt. The bible warns against the love of money many times in Matt. 6, I Tim. 6, Heb. 13 to give a few. God gives us many things for convenience, but He never intended for things and people to take His place. What we really need is to put God first again in our lives and allow him to be our supplier, and stop trying to do it our self. We cannot bring our self peace no matter how hard we try. God is the true giver of peace. If we just slow down and go back to our first love (God), and give to him that which he has allowed us to have, and do not take it back out of his hand, we will find much peace in trusting in the almighty God. Remember “He’s got this” and if He allows trials and problems to come our way it’s because He trusts us to do the right thing, and that’s to lay that burden down at his feet and give his word back to him, “…my God shall supply all my need according to his riches in glory.”(Phil. 4:19).

First it says he shall which mean he definitely will. Second he said all my need as in singular one need. People that need is Him. He’s all we need because he’s the supplier of everything. God has got this, and all He needs for us to do is to trust him, be prayerful and full of the word so we can give it back to him. He is the word and the word that has been spoken out of his mouth will not return unto him void, but it will accomplish that which he pleases (Isa.55:11).

The Lord bless you.

LIL Chocolate BoY

Praise God! We have been blessed to see a New Year, the year of 2011. In this New Year, however, we should be trying to rid of all the old things that have been hindering our relationship with our Heavenly Father. There is a television show on A&E TV called "Hoarders" that narrows in on two individual's lives. Hoarding is the behavior of saving or storing up different things for future use. Some of the symptoms of hoarding consist of cluttered living spaces, inability to discard items, excessive attachment to possessions, and discomfort letting others touch or borrow possessions, acquiring unneeded or seemingly useless items, including trash, etc.

One evening, my mom and I were watching the show and sat in awe of all the unnecessary things these different people were holding onto. Hoarders hold onto certain things because of sentimental value, decision-making, control, responsibility or they cannot let go. One of the sole purposes of the show is to get people to realize their compulsive behaviors and cease their abnormality as soon as possible because it is, unknowingly in their eyes, distancing them from family and friends and

taking a heavy toll on their social lives.

The first half of the show typically introduces the hoarder and their home. As the camera operator gets unimaginable footage of clutter and disorganization throughout the bedrooms, restrooms, kitchen, living room, dining area, and garage, the viewer sees everything. The assigned expert or professional (usually a psychologist) helps guide, instruct and encourage the individual to the starting process of getting rid of all the unnecessary junk. Though to the hoarder everything kept has a cherished value in their lives. The hard truth is that this stuff is preventing them from advancing in life. As the hoarder makes the life-changing decision to begin exterminating the useless junk in their lives, the expert/professional is there through the entirety of the show ushering the individual the correct way.

When the cleaning process actually began, the hoarder and cleanup crew started putting things in the house outside in boxes and trash bags; in simplest terms, they get rid of a year's worth of junk that the hoarder had been holding onto so dearly. We may not hoard things in our natural homes but our spiritual homes are filled with mess we have yet to let go

and clean up. Whether it is bad relationships, our hang-ups, immature ways, failure to grow up, lying, not trusting God, doing more worrying than praying, giving up when the fight has not even begun, the things that get in the way of our relationship with our Heavenly Father should be immediately boxed or bagged and thrown away. Besides, the same things we are having issues getting rid of, God, our expert/professional/guider/encourager, is constantly by our sides saying, "You can let this go" or "You don't need that as much as you think you do." He said He would never leave us nor forsake us and that is still true to this day and will forever be that way. As we start this New Year, let's hang-up our hang-ups, trash our garbage and let go of our mess.

After the hoarder and cleanup crew finished taking out the unnecessary things within the house, the house looked very different. The house looked new, spotless, and clean and that is how our spiritual houses are to look and appear when we stop hoarding things we do not need. It is a new year, the year of 2011, so let us all try to stop hoarding the same things around and letting that interfere with our relationships with Him! Happy New Year!

January 9

Well the hustle and bustle of the

holidays are behind us!

Not that I’m complaining at all. After all the hustle and bustle is

so much a part of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

However, now it’s time to take a seat and just breath. While other people are lying to themselves making resolutions, the same ones they have been making for the past God knows how many years - just do it for crying out loud. I’m just going to find a seat somewhere, make a pot of tea, breath in the aroma and relax.

Ah, the air smells so fresh from this seat.

Many years ago, lol like I’ve been around that long, I started doing “me time”. Even if I was in the middle of a crowd of people, I would take a mental “shut down” and just breath.

But the real “me time” would take place once a month. I would close out the world around me, go make a hot pot of Lapsang Souchong, and grab a good read or Betty Davis, followed by some Joshua Bell by candle light.

What memories...

It’s been a while since I have gone there, to that quite place. But I found those moments to be some of the most valuable moments of my life.

As I begin to make life busy, you do know we create these busy worlds we live in don’t you...anyway, I would take moments of escape where I would find a dark place, not the mental one, sit on a floor and just breath. Once I felt comfortable I would let the scripture from the day’s reading just float in my mind, or

I would just let my mind whisper a prayer.

Nope, that’s not some strange Chinese hocus pocus. The Bible does talk about meditating. It’s a Biblical principle for sanity.

In the hustle and bustle world we live in sanity is a rare commodity. Everyone’s giving someone a piece of their mind until they have nothing left to give and they just flip out.

If most people are honest, they are seconds from doing a mental backflip. It’s common to hear people say their “nerves on edge” or “hanging on by a thread”. And the tragedy is, they are not exaggerating.

Now days many people have no clue how uptight or explosive they are when under pressure. They have to come believe it’s normal behavior because they have done it so long.

While most time I want to say, “please go medicate yourself before you become combustable and do more damage to yourself than you already have.” Of course, wisdom kicks in before I can open my mouth and say that, ha!

Now before you get upset, the truth is that

life has become a pressure cooker for many people. And because we seldom acknowledge that God has given us a way of escape, we respond to the pressure in an ungodly manner. No you may not swear like a sailer or threaten to kill anyone, but the response still does not bring glory to God.

God planned for every human being to have “me time”. He called it rest. No matter how supper human you are, you are not God. And if He declared that on the seventh day he took a rest, he expects His creation to do the same.

As a matter of fact, God created REST. Say it, REST.

How many people get a day off from work and spend the whole day working. Either you are running errands, cleaning, taking care of family business, etc.

But when your body sends you on a mandatory rest, or a permanent rest, you want to blame the devil. No, blame yourself, because God gave you a way of escape, but you chose not to take it.

Did you know rest effects your worship? Not only our expression of worship when we come to the house of God, but our daily live worship that we give to God.

How can we make time to give ourselves a living sacrifice when we are wearing our body out in worship to the world and our own pleasure? By the time to give to God of our time we are worn out. So what we offer is a beat up worship which equates to no worship at all.

This year I invite you to join me in some “me time”. No don’t make a resolution to get more rest! Pull out your calendar and set those rest days. Schedule that 10-20 minutes in your day when you can get away from it all and just enjoy “the sweet quite hour of rest”.

Happy resting to you!

We believe in one eternal God; infinite in power, holy in nature, attributes and purpose, as well as omniscient and omnipresent.

We believe this one true God, who revealed Himself as Father in Creation, as Son in redemption, and as Holy Ghost in regeneration.

We believe that - in Him (Jesus) dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell.

We believe in the death, burial and resurrection.

We believe in being born again of water-by immersion in the name of the Lord “Jesus” Christ for the remission of sins, and in Spirit baptism of the Holy Ghost - speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.

We believe in divine healing, communion and foot washing.

We believe in presenting our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God.

We believe in expressions of praise with lifted hands, hand clapping, playing of musical instruments, voice of praise and dancing.

The purpose of New Life Temple Church is to instill the faith of Jesus Christ into the lives of all people, bringing them into spiritual perfection with a spirit of excellence.
