Beginning at the Gordons Pond parking area, v isitors will follow a crushed stone trailsuitable for hiking and biking along the water’s edge for 0.75 miles before arriv ing at theGordons Pond Scenic ov erlook. The ov erlook, popular among bird watchers, prov ides agreat v iew of Gordons Pond. From the ov erlook, the trail continues north to theHerring Point Parking Area. Visitors will trav erse an elev ated bridge where they willexperience an upland pine forest and stunning scenic v iews of the marsh and AtlanticOcean.
This popular trail follows a section of the former Penn Central railroad connecting Lewesand Rehoboth Beach. The easy contour and crushed stone and pav ed surfaces aresuitable for hikers, bikers, and strollers. The trail is accessible from the designatedtrailheads at the Wolfe Neck Parking Area and behind the Outlets. Trail users will passthrough mature hardwood and conifer forests, marshes and open fields. Scenic v istas atthe Wolfe Glade and Holland Glade crossings prov ide spectacular v iews of the coastalmarshes, and interpretiv e signs prov ide v isitors with information about plant and animallife along the trail.Please Note: Trail access in Lewes is from Kings Highway opposite the Cape HenlopenHigh School or from Gills Neck Road west of the entrance to the Hawks Eyecommunity. Rehoboth Beach access is from Hebron Road just off Route 1. No parkingis av ailable at these access points.
