During Dr Wenk’s very informaƟve presentaƟon she appealed for parents to complete the P&C Class Parent InformaƟon Lists so that family contact details can be eciently distributed. Parents may recall that in 2018 it was brought to our aƩenƟon by the DET Legal Directorate that the “opt out” method that we had used for many years to distribute parent informaƟon for usage by the P&C and FRASC wasn’t appropriate. We were advised that in order to disclose personal informaƟon of parents/ caregivers informed consent is required. The P&C and FRASC have to collect informaƟon directly from those who want to provide informaƟon to them. Hence the P&C and FRASC seeks your assistance in providing informaƟon to complete the parent informaƟon lists that will be distributed to all parents. Dates to Remember

The Parent Teacher Informa on Evenings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings of last week were a huge success with many Gordon West parents taking the opportunity to listen to presenta ons from classroom teachers and Stage Supervisors providing comprehensive overviews of class programs for the year. Although this wasn’t a me to conduct in depth interviews with individual parents, parents are reminded that the school is completely accountable to the school community and welcomes parents contac ng teachers at any me of the year. Parents are also advised that individual parent teacher interviews will be held at the end of this term. A big thank you to Dr Elizabeth Wenk our Parents and Ci zens Associa on Vice President for filling in for the President of the P&C, Mr James O’Keefe who was absent from Sydney due to work commitments. Also a big thank you to Belinda Mark our newly elected president of the Gordon West FRASC for outlining the role of FRASC at Gordon West.

During Dr Wenk’s very informa ve presenta on she appealed for parents to complete the P&C Class Parent Informa on Lists so that family contact details can be efficiently distributed. Parents may recall that in 2018 it was brought to our a en on by the DET Legal Directorate that the “opt out” method that we had used for many years to distribute parent informa on for usage by the P&C and FRASC wasn’t appropriate. We were advised that in order to disclose personal informa on of parents/ caregivers informed consent is required. The P&C and FRASC have to collect informa on directly from those who want to provide informa on to them. Hence the P&C and FRASC seeks your assistance in providing informa on to complete the parent informa on lists that will be distributed to all parents.

beginning of another year at Gordon West and to welcome new members of the Gordon West School Community. A new feature of the a ernoon was a “Second‐hand Bookstore” which proved very popular. Congratula ons and a big thank you to Mrs Jull, Mrs Mark and their organising commi ee. Thank you to all the parent volunteers and par cipants for ensuring such a wonderful a ernoon. Events such as these are so important in bringing the school community together. It was with great sadness that we had to remove a beau ful Angophora gum tree from the garden directly in front of the Administra on Building. Unfortunately the arborists believe that the tree was struck by lightning in the recent storms and even though both the arborists that we consulted stated that the tree wasn’t dangerous in the short term we couldn’t take the chance and had it removed. We will no doubt plant a number of trees in its place. We are very fortunate to have lots of trees in our playground and the arborist commented on our tree safety maintenance plan. If you look carefully you will note that most of our trees are numbered and very careful inspec ons are conducted regularly. However given the ferocity of the storms of late even the most healthy trees can shed branches. Our long awaited landscaping project adjacent to the “Fixed Equipment” will commence shortly. Our Building Commi ee is very excited given that this project has been a number of years in planning. The landscape architect used, “iScape” were the original architects who designed the “Quiet Area” project over 20 years ago. Thank you to Mr Jackson from “iScape”. The successful tenderer was Outdoor Retreats Landscaping and work will commence shortly. Incidentally given the wonderful success of the synthe c grass project adjacent to the school hall there has been a great deal of interest in laying similar synthe c grass on the school oval. Ini ally we thought that the synthe c grass oval laid on

the area adjacent to the hall would be used for spor ng ac vi es. However given the fact that the synthe c grass is so so and invi ng the children have been using it for social gatherings as well. We look forward to the introduc on of the op on for girls of wearing shorts and slacks with their summer and winter uniform respec vely. These new uniform op ons should prove more suitable for handstand, cartwheel and a variety of gymnas c type ac vi es conducted on the new synthe c grass. Although our order was placed last year the Coronavirus has played havoc with the Chinese supplier and we s ll don’t have a definite date for delivery. Congratula ons to Mrs Sheldon on being appointed as a Learning Quality Advisor in the Department of Educa on Parrama a office. Mrs Sheldon has accepted a two year appointment with the possibility of an extension. We thank Mrs Sheldon for her wonderful contribu on to Gordon West PS and wish her all the best for the future. On Wednesday of last week we adver sed for an Expression of Interest for Mrs Sheldon’s Assistant Principal posi on and look forward to finding an excellent replacement. In the mean me Ms Coleman an excellent casual teacher will be responsible for teaching the class. Mrs Waugh and Ms Lawson two very experienced and

wonderful teachers will share the supervisory role for

Stage 3.
