NOVEMBER 9, 2012 Update Blast...

October has provided us with an assortment

of weather from unseasonably mild to

considerably wet and windy at times.

The Gopher Dunes '2012 CMRC Sandstorm

Finale' unfolded on October 14 and although

attendance was lower than expected, it

turned out to be an amazing day with

temperatures reaching well into the 20's.

The highlight attraction for the day was the

Red Bull 'best whip contest' which attracted

some serious and daring contenders.

The best whip winner was Jeremy Medaglia

who received the biggest round of applause

from the spectators!

The Vintage Show & Shine & Racing proved

to be a successful nostalgic event attracting

many participants and drawing lots of

attention. Our local member, Ken Gilmour

pulled off 1st. place in both the Vintage and

the Post Vintage classes while our 'ol

favourite Helmut Clasen was awarded the

'Hard Core' award as the racer with the

highest number combination, that is, age of

bike + age of racer! Kudo's to you Helmut,

our well-seasoned enthusiast! And a BIG

thank you to Ann & Ron Harten for making

the Vintage Event happen. Check out the

The wet and windy conditions caused by

Hurricane Sandy during the last week of

October created poor riding conditions and

had Gopher Dunes shut down for the first

time this season for over a week. But we're

back up and running again on weekends

only for the month of November. Initially

the trails were closed, due to excessive water

and many downed trees and branches. But

with the sunnier weather and the guys

running the chain-saws for the past few days

has allowed them to open up Train #1 & #2

for this Saturday & Sunday. Hours of

operation will be from 11am to 5pm. With

the exception of this Sunday, November

11th. where riders will only be allowed

to start up their engines at 11:05am,

following a few moments silence in memory

of our fallen soldiers.

And just a reminder to our riders - those of

you coming out to ride for the day, your

rider fee also includes free use of the rc

track. So when you load up your bike, also

bring along your remote control cars and

play all day!

Otherwise use of the rc track only is $10 per

participant.

We've had some amazing artwork submitted

for our poster contest! Congrats to all that

participated for a job well done. Now for

the selected winners of our GDR Poster

Contest: for age category 7 & under goes to

Connor Gaitens, winner for ages 8 to 12 is

Seth McDowell, age 13+ is Chantelle Crafts

and an award goes out to Christine

Katona for 'most creative' GDR poster. Our

winners will be contacted to come and pick-

up their TLD Gift Pack prizes.
