Can we please remind you to park sensibly and safely when using Rose Meadows. Please do not mount the pavement. Thank you.

A note from Mr Hayes

What an amazing, fun packed term it has been! In

November our year 6 children went to Birmingham to

learn about life in a large city. They visited the Town Hall,

Symphony Hall, Bull Ring shopping centre, Guru Nanak

Sikh temple, Aston Villa football club and Cadburys.

The Christmas fair was a huge success, raising a sum of

£1900. Thank you to everyone who helped out whether it

was running a stall, donating an item to sell or coming

along and spending your hard earned pennies. I’m sure

you’ll agree the FROGS did a tremendous job once again.

I thoroughly enjoyed this year’s Christmas concert at

Perranzabuloe Church and it amazed me that over 70

children took part. A big thank you to the music teachers

who gave up their time to come along and especially Mrs

More for organising such a magical evening.

Wasn’t the infant nativity amazing? The children looked

gorgeous in their costumes and they sang so beautifully.

Thank you to everyone who came along and to the

teachers for the hours they spent rehearsing with the

children.

And finally everyone at school would like to wish you a

wonderful Christmas and we look forward to seeing you

in the New Year.

Cornish dancing

Thank you to those parents who showed an interest in

starting a cornish dancing club after school.

Unfortunately because there was so little interest it is not

possible to run the club. I'm sorry if this is disappointing

news to you and if you have any ideas of how we could

make the club sustainable then I would be glad to hear

your views.

Mr Hayes

The annual Christmas Fair was a great success, many

thanks to everyone involved and the fantastic sum of

£1900 was raised. A special mention must go to Grace

Rice, Jay Grieve and Jessica Commons who all made

items and spent the morning selling them for FROGS

funds. Also thanks to Angus and Mandy Wright for kindly

donating half a lamb as the first prize for the raffle. It was

won by Mr and Mrs Sanwell.

Finally, thanks to your generosity, Banardos will be

receiving a cheque for £130 from our alternative to

sending Christmas cards project. The hand print

Christmas tree is on display in the school hall.

By Helen Tellam, Chair FROGS

Class R Class R have had a very busy half term. We had a

wonderful ‘trip to the moon’ and would like to thank all

the families who helped us pack our bags and make

space suits. As a result we have written a wonderful class

book and enjoyed playing together in our rocket.

Children have enjoyed baking, writing, making, painting

and importantly preparing for our Christmas Nativity

play. Thank you again to all the families who have helped

out and provided costumes.

Class 1 'In maths we have been doing adding and taking away. I am going to tell

you a sum 3+5=8. We have been making musical instruments. It was

fun. Me and my friend made a guitar.' Izzy.

'We have been reading and writing about the Lonely Giant. We have

been doing the actions like creeping up a mountain.' Keria

'We had fun making plastic telephones out of yoghurt pots.' Poppy.

'We have been using our senses.' Finley.

'We have been painting and doing the school play. We had a 'Fancy

Dress Teddy Bear's Picnic' marble treat.' Eimear.

Class 2 We have been doing lots of work about Aborigines. We did a dance in

Music. Mr Bone helped us make Aborigine music and then Mrs Cuthell

and Miss Morton helped us do a dance to it. Mr Bone made us some

good masks. We showed to the school. We are going to do it in assembly

again for our mums and dads. We’re doing ‘The landlord’s cat’ for the

nativity. Also we’re making boats in DT out of all sorts of materials like

plastic and polystyrene.

Children of class 2

Class 3 Class 3 are still enjoying finding out about the Ancient Egyptians. On

November 10th we went on a class trip to Truro Library and museum.

First of all we went to the library and the librarian read us an Egyptian

story. The story was about a little girl who didin't want to kill the

Pharoah's cat, so she made a wooden cat and wrapped it in a cloth to

make it look like a mummy. After the story we split into two groups. One

group had a tour around the library and the others had an Egyptian quiz

using reference books to help find the answers. After that we walked

over to the museum. Again we were split into 2 groups one group went

to look at the mummy called ‘Ast Tayef Nakht' whilst the other group

were detectives and had to find clues that were buried in the sand. At

the end we all got together and performed 'The Weighing of the heart

ceremony'.

On December 9th some of us took part in the carol concert at

Perranzabuloe Church. We had some beautiful singing by the choir and

singing group. Some children played the drums, violins, brass, guitars,

flutes and recorders. There were also some Christmas poems performed

by the choral group.

We are busy getting ready for Christmas making cards and decorations to

take home.

Amelie Harris and Joshua Fairhurst.

Class 4

In class 4 we have been learning about circuits and all the components.

For example:

Battery packs Light bulbs

Switches Reed switches

Motors

In Geography we went out side and looked at the cars and the speed

they go. Then we wrote letters to our local councillor asking for help in

slowing them down.

In Maths we have been learning about fractions like ½ of 20 and ¾ of 24.

In English we have been learning about poems, we have performed them

and written Kennings and Limericks. We have continued to learn about

pirates. Their favourite weapon was a flintlock pistol.

By Katie Whitbread-Abrutat and Gerran Hawkey

Class 5 A little while ago, me and my mum came up with an idea to raise money

for Pudsey Bear (Children in Need). Me and my class made chocolate

rice crispy cakes. We sold them outside the hall on Children in Need day

(19th November). We raised £85.80 in total.

Georgiana Tregunna

On Thursday 9th December class 5 went to Perranzabuloe church to

practise for the Christmas concert. Other people from different classes

went too. In the evening we performed the concert with the choir,

brass, choral speaking, violins, recorders, flute, drums and guitars (which

we played in). We were there a lot of the day practising in the church

and it turned out great!

Class 6 We have had a really busy half-term. Our trip to Birmingham was a

HUGE success! We visited Cadbury World, the Symphony Hall, a Sikh

temple, had a training session at Aston Villa and even got to watch them

play Blackpool in the Premiership!

When we got back, our LITERACY work focused on putting together a

NEWSLETTER about the trip which we will be sending out at the end of

this term. We also used the trip for some of our MATHEMATICAL work

too. We would like to invite you to a presentation about our trip to

Birmingham which will be at 3.30pm on Thursday 13th

January.

Christmas has come around really quickly. We have been retelling the

CHRISTMAS STORY from different points of view and have produced

some really beautiful final pieces of work. We have

also been SWIMMING, which was really good fun,

composed pieces of music and have produced LOTS

of fantastic ART!

Now it's time for a well-deserved rest over Christmas..........

Football

Bishops 3 v Goonhavern 5

On Monday the 15th of November we had a match against Bishops. We

were full of confidence after our success at the previous tournament on

the astro turf at Tretherras.

This is the squad of Goonhavern primary:

Oliver Walker-Captain/Middlefield Danielle Burns-Striker

Daniel Rice-Middlefield Michael Bonner- Defence

Alex Finley-Defence Louis Emanuel-Defence

Marijka Zwozdiak-Substitute Adam Delbridge-Smith-Goal keeper

First Half was a blow with Bishops scoring in the 1st 5 minutes. But then

quickly after Oliver Walker scored a top corner shot to make it 1-1. In the

tenth minute Bishops scored again making the score 2-1, for the rest of

the first half there wasn’t much action. At half time are Coach Mr Hayes

pulled us in and told us our 1st 5 minutes were totally rubbish, but he said

the last 5 minutes were brilliant, and he said for us to wake up, and try to

get the ball to Oliver.

Second Half we got of to a much better start with Danielle Burns scoring in

the 1st minute of the second half to make the score 2-2. Three minutes

later Daniel Rice scored to make it 3-2 to Goonhavern. Bishops weren’t

giving up though; they had several missed chances with Adam Delbridge-

Smith having two do an excellent save to deny Bishops from scoring.

Oliver Walker then did a clearance from the half way line and it just so

happened that it went in the top corner the Bishop’s net to make it 4-2

Goonhavern. Then in the second to last minute Oliver Walker slotted the

ball through to Michael Bonner who hit the post then Danielle Burns

finished it of to make the score 5-2 to Goonhavern. But then Bishop’s

scored a relatively lucky goal just slipping under Adam Delbridge-Smiths

legs just squeezing in the goal making the score 5-3 to Goonhavern.

Shortly after the whistle blew, Goonhavern came from 2-1 down to 5-3 up.

We celebrated like mad and we chanted: “5-3 to the champions”. All in a

day’s work for Goonhavern Primary School.

We’d just like to thank Dianne Finley for transport and Mr Hayes for being

our Coach and for transport.

By Danielle Burns & Oliver Walker.

Goonhavern 6 v St Columb Major 3

On the 24th of November year 5 and year 6 had a football match against

St. Columb Major. First we scored 1 goal by Oliver Walker and the other

team scored 2 goals and then the half time whistle went. In the second

half we scored 5 goals by Danielle Burns, Oliver Walker again and Michael

Bonner. The other team scored 1 goal. At the end the scores were 6-3.

“We won the match!” The team line up was, Eoghan Cromie in goal,

Marijka Zwozdiak in defence, Louis Emmanual in defence, Alex Finlay in

defence, Daniel Rice on the right wing, Oliver Walker on the left wing

,Michael Bonner in midfield and Dannielle Burns was striker. So thank you

to Mr Prickett for refereeing the match and thank you to Mr Hayes for

coaching our team. Thank you to the supporters for coming to watch.

Report by Marijka Zwozdiak and Daniel Rice

Year 2 multiskills

On Wednesday 24th November we went to multiskills at Newquay Sports

Centre. While we were there we had a go at hurdles, they were hard. We

also did gymnastics where we had to balance and walk on rope which was

all ziggly and zaggly.

We had to lie down and pass a giant ball to our friends.

Class 2 had a lot of fun, we’d like to say THANK YOU to all of the Mums

and Dads and teachers who took us there.

Ella Waterhouse and Lottie Bartlett
