Common Quiz Question Types

The following are common Quiz question types:
• Closed End – Respondent make choice from available answers
• Multiple Choice : Select one correct answer from several option answers
• True – False : Multiple choice with only 2 option answers, True and False
• Checkbox : Select one or more than one correct answers from several option answers
• Open End : Respondent write their own answer

Question Point
4
Generally, there are 2 basic ways how to give point for quiz questions:
1. Closed End (Multiple Choice/Checkbox) Questions : Point by Google Forms.
• As we have indicated answer key and set point for correct answer during question development, Google Forms can give point automatically for the question.
2. Open End Questions (Short Answer/Paragraph): Point by Reviewer.
• Reviewer to give point for open end questions after reading what was written by respondents and determine its correctness.
• Short Answer type actually provides option to use answer key that point can be done automatically by Google Forms. The issue is that what respondents write must be exactly the same with answer key to be correct, not allowing even typo error. In effect, reviewer will still need to read and judge whether to accept or overrule the automatic point.
Releasing Quiz Score
5
There are 2 basic ways as to how to release quiz score, closely related with question point:
1. Respondent can view quiz score immediately after submission.
• This is particularly useful for quiz with closed end questions.
2. Respondent can view quiz score in their email after reviewer release them.
• For quiz that have mixed question, closed end with open end/essay, score can be released after reviewer gives points to open questions.

Quiz Development

• We will skip the detail of questionnaire development as we have covered it in part 1 of the tutorial.
• One important point for with regard to questions in quiz is on question type selection in Google Forms:
• For Choice with One Correct Answer (Multiple Choice or True-False) Select Question Type Multiple Choice
• For Choice with One or More than One Correct Answers Select Question Type Checkbox
• For Open End Expecting Short Answer Text or Number or Mix Select Question Type Short Answer
• For Open End Expecting Essay Answer Select Question Type Paragraph
• Now, we focus on the menu for setting answer key and point.
Setting Answer Key and Point (1)
12
When in Setting > Quizzes > Make this a quiz THEN in highlighted question you’ll have this ANSWER KEY menu
Setting answer key and point is necessary for Google Forms to be able to give point automatically
Setting Answer Key and Point (2)

Click to get back to question For Question type : Multiple Choice with one correct answer
Setting Answer Key and Point (3)
14
In checkbox, respondent can choose one or more than one answers
Will only get point when respondent answer all correct answers. Partly correct answer doesn’t count.
For this question, select these 2 options as correct answers
For Question type : Checkbox with one or more than one correct answers
Setting Answer Key and Point (4)
15
For open end questions, where respondent type their own answer, setting key answer can only be done for “short answer” question type “Short Answer” Question type
accepts text
“Short Answer” Question type also accepts numeric
“Paragraph” Question type accepts long text suitable for essay question
Setting Answer Key and Point (5)
16
For “short answer” we can add list of correct answers after clicking Answer Key
In “short answer”, however, to be correct respondent answer have to be exactly the same with one answer from a list of answer keys (no typo is allowed)

Click to get back to question
Click to edit answer key or point
We can give feedback to respondent regarding answer key for example the formula or calculation. The feedback
can also be a website link.
Quiz with automatic scoring often is better for quiz with closed end questions only.
Setting Answer Key and Point (7)
18
With “paragraph” question type, there is no answer key to be set. We need however to set the maximum point for correct answer which can serve as guidance as to how many point should be given for a particular answer during manual review. If scoring is set as automatic, then the point for paragraph question will be 0.
Releasing Score (1)
19
Choose this if you want students/participants to have score immediately after submission. Ideal for quiz with all closed end questions and you have set key answers and points.
This page will be shown after quiz submission.Click to view score.
Releasing Score (2)

This is the score, with format of :Correct Point/ Maximum Point
In addition to score, students/participants can also view point for each question and the answer key for wrong answer.
All questions are close end (multiple choice or checkbox) with key answers and points already set.
Releasing Score (3)
21
This page will be shown after quiz submission.Respondent will receive score in their email after reviewer release their score.
Choose this if you want students/ participants to receive score in their emails only after review by reviewer.Ideal for quiz that contains open end questions (short answer or paragraph type). This is because in open end you need to look at individual answer to determine how correct/accurate their answer is .The score release choice is also good for quiz with all closed end questions if we want to have some interval between submission and score release.
Releasing Score (4)
22
Go to Individual tab. You’ll see quiz answers from each respondent
Now we are looking at quiz answers from respondent no 4. Hit the arrow button to go to previous or next respondent.

Reviewer can give feedback to a particular respondent
Reviewer can give general feedback to all respondents
On essay question, reviewer can give point based on their judgment, in this example 5 out of 5.
