Bookmobile Librarian = White House Decorator!
Our Bookmobile Librarian, Marilou “Piddle” Johnson, was able to make a long-time dream
come true – she was chosen to help decorate the White House for the 2017 Holiday Season!
“I honestly did not expect to be chosen, but the Good Lord smiled on me with everything
from an extremely affordable airfare and hotel, to new friends, to using my talents to decorate
"The People's House", to working with people who put politics aside and focused on working
together, to the wonderful assistance I received from Congressman Rogers' office in getting
tickets for my friends and an awesome tour of the US Capitol, to amazing hot chocolate and a
renewed sense of pride in being an American, being surrounded by so much important history!
Obviously, I could go on and on, but I am so very thankful for this fantastic experience! Thanks
to everyone for your good wishes!
“A great big Thank You to Ka’ssee Burchfield for writing such a sweet story (in the
Middlesboro Daily News) about my experience at the White House! It was such a wonderful
and thrilling 5 days, words almost fail me.”
Even though Miss Piddle is known around the county for the fantastic job she does as the Bookmobile Librarian,
she used to own a flower shop in Pineville along with her mother, Barbara Grace. She developed her gift of decorating
and making fabulous bows during those years. Some of the bows you see on the 52 live trees throughout the White
House were made by Piddle! She was even seen in the television special that aired on HGTV on Dec. 10th!

“Here I am decorating a tree in the Diplomatic Reception Room (where
VIP’s have their official White House photo taken with President and/or
