Students who were fortunate enough to attend this year's school Athletics Carnival were lucky to receive superb weather for the event. Well done to Emerald house who won the teams events (1246 points), followed by Diamond (1120 points), Mullaway (875 points) and Arrawarra (785 points). Many of the age groups point scores were hotly contested and often came down to student participation in one (extra) event. Well done to all those who competed and to Year 12 for running the outstanding food and drinks canteen for 2013.

Congratulations to Jesse Gentle being selected in the CHS team, she will
represent NSW state schools in the upcoming All Schools soccer competi-
tion on June 17-18 at the Seymour Shaw Stadium in Sydney. She will also
represent our zone side in the North Coast Championships in Touch from 4-
6 June. Well done and good luck Jesse!
The Zone cross country championships were held last week at Woolgoolga
High and the wet weather was very challenging for these elite athletes.
Woolgoolga blitzed the carnival with six age champions: Rhianna Birch,
Samuel Burke, Gemma Hutchinson, Joshua McBrien, Jesse Gentle and
Jacinta Smithers. Congratulations and good luck to all athletes who progress to the next round at
the Regional Championships to be held at Lismore.
The Back to the Eighties Musical last week was an outstanding success! I attended the Friday
night session and was very proud of all our student performances, the songs and acting was first
rate. A big thank you must also go to the producers and musical directors and all the staff who
helped in the background. Jenni Williams the Director in particular did a magnificent job, Gareth
Berglund and Meredith Drinan helped the students bring the music to life and all the students en-
joyed participating in the performance. Woolgoolga High School continues to develop high quality
talent and leadership skills in our students.
A date to put in your calendar is 20 July, our P&C and the CEX Woolgoolga are helping our
school to raise funds to support our S.M.I.L.E. program. The theme is “Christmas in July” and will
be held at the Woolgoolga Bowling Club. There will be a live band, two course meal, a silent auc-
tion and our S.M.I.L.E. team will give a 30 minute presentation outlining our successful program.
More details are found later in this newsletter.
The athletics carnival was blessed with typical north coast sunny weather. Congratulations to all
athletes who competed at the carnival and in particular the age champions: Paris Woodgate,
Humraj Singh, Tanisha Wallace, Samuel Burke, Ariat Desalegn Bekele, Izack Smidt, Emily Nudd,
Jonathon Gusman, Caitlyn Valentine, Matthew Gray, Nicole Gusman and Steven Adams.
Please keep in your calendar the NAIDOC celebration assembly on 17 June at 1.10pm. We are
very excited that Aunty Shaa Smith has agreed to paint a full wall painting in our Gumbaynggirr
classroom. Mr Hancock and all year 7 classes who are learning the Gumbaynggirr language will
enjoy the high quality artwork for years to
come.
Until next time

Year 10 Subject Selection Organisation At this stage, Year 10 have enjoyed an afternoon exploring various career options that interest them. As a follow up to this they are now completing a booklet that will give them an insight into their strengths and weaknesses. This is being done with the assistance of Mr Allen, the Careers Teacher. The next step in the process will be held during sport time in Week 8 where all year 10 students will have the opportunity to hear about all the subject choices available to them in Senior School. Following this, they will be asked to par-ticipate in an online survey which can be completed on any com-puter but they will require the unique username and password provided. It is critical that this is completed seriously as the subjects that we offer are determined by the number of stu-dents who select them. As a general rule, any subject with less than 15 students is unlikely to be available. This is the basis on which the subjects are then grouped for our line pattern. The last part of the process is the attendance at the Senior Subject Selection night, where general information will be provided to both students and parents and the final subject choice sheet will be handed out and must be returned as quickly as possible. This will ensure your child gets the subjects they want.
For any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact Helen Young (Senior Subject Co-ordinator) on 66541500.
Examination preparation afternoon's started on Thursday 30th May. These afternoons will
occur on 'T-Days' (Tuesday and Thursday) in the Library. Year 11 and 12 students need to
sign-on on the sheets provided (see Library noticeboard) and nominate the HSC exam
they would like to sit in complete exam conditions. Transport can be ar-
ranged if required. Light refreshments are also provided.
Students reading records are currently being updated for the 2013
Premier's Reading Challenge.
Don't forget to take advantage of the
Woopis4Books offer to have more entries into
the assembly draws.

With plenty of rain and blustery winds came a true test of courage and ability for the 2013 Zone Cross Country Carnival. Schools from around the district attended the event under extremely challenging condi-tions, whilst proudly representing their respective schools.

On Friday, 17th of May the Woolgoolga High School under 15 girls soccer team travelled to Coffs Har-bour for their 2nd Round match of the Bill Turner Knockout Trophy against Coffs Harbour High School. From the opening whistle, the speed and skill of both teams was evident, showing that this was going to be a very evenly contested and entertaining game of soccer. The ball went from one end to the other with both teams making some good attacking advances. The young fast Woopi forwards, consist-ing of Year 7 students Zoe Batty, Innogen Armitage and Tanisha Wallace were all closely marked by the Coffs defence. Woolgoolga backline of Emma Ca-hill, Dakota Rees, Gabbie Dowler, Ashlee Johnston and Rachel Murray worked well together and had solid games. The games remained scoreless at half-time due to the instrumental role of both goal keep-ers. The Woopi girls scored the first goal in the second half. Jorja Murphy stole possession from the opposi-tion and channelled the ball to Lily Wilson who slotted the ball past the Coffs goal keeper to score. Unfortu-nately Woopi’s lead was very short lived as it only took the Coffs girls a minute to hit back and level the score to one all.
On Thursday 16th May our Open Girls Soccer
Team travelled to Bellingen to play in round 3 of the knockout. During the first half, our passing was pretty good but we needed to mark up more and recognise their speedy striker earlier. With a half time score of 4-0 (to Bello) our aim for the second half was to get in front of their players and be first to the ball. With this in mind, Woopi came out firing. We were much hungrier for the ball and managed to keep Bello scoreless in the 2nd half. Although we will now unfortunately lose the year 12 players who have been in the team for many years, the younger girls also played really well and showed positive signs for the years to come.
Thanks to Mrs Bear for organising it. Woopi 2456 represent ……Yeeeewwww!

The Woolgoolga girls kept fighting with the mid field players, Lily Wilson, Emily Nudd, Kelera Marsden, Jordan Henderson-Smith, and Jorja Murphy continu-ing to pressure the Coffs Harbour defence. With less than five minutes of the game left Woopi scored the winning goal. It started with some good work from the backs who cleared the ball out of defence to Lily Wilson who advanced the ball up the sideline and then made a perfect cross to Tanisha Wallace who stretched to full capacity to knock the ball into the back of the net. Congratulations to all Woolgoolga girls on an excel-lent win always displaying understanding sports-manship. The player of the match as voted by her team mates was Woopi’s goal keeper Sophie Buller. The under 15 girls now play Bishop Druitt College in the next round of the Bill Turner Knockout Trophy. A big thank you to all the parents and grandparents for their sideline support and transporting the girls to Coffs Harbour.

Leave Pass for School Sport
Student and Parents/Caregivers are reminded that School Sport is a compulsory requirement of schooling. Students who cannot avoid an appointment on a Wednesday afternoon during sport time must follow the correct procedure to leave school grounds.
1. Students must bring a note from home and submit this to their relevant Deputy Principal be-fore school on Wednesday morning.
2. After approval for leave is granted by the Deputy, students take their note to the front office where a 'leave pass' will be given to the student stating the time they will be departing school grounds.
3. Students may leave school grounds at the time that the 'leave pass' states.
Failing to follow the above procedures may result in your child having fractional truancy on their record and a demotion in the school welfare merit system.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WOOLGOOLGA —125 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR Woolgoolga is 125 years old this year and there will be birthday celebrations in the town on the June long weekend.
You may already have noticed the Heritage Walk pan-els in River, Hastings, Scarborough and Beach streets as well as in Turon Parade in front of the art gallery. These provide interesting information about aspects of Woolgoolga’s heritage and will be officially opened on Sunday 9 June
If you want to see the parade, make sure you arrive early as Beach St will be closed during the Parade it-self, but can be accessed on foot from side streets. At this stage there are 16 floats or marching groups, plus
horses, vintage cars, fire engines and a bullock team. Afterwards at the Reserve there will be music and Maypole dancing, Mandrake the Magician will be doing a show or two, there will be heritage refreshments available and heritage games and competitions will be under way (horseshoes, boot toss, sack races). Bring the family to see the parade and have some fun.

ROTARY AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM EXPRESSION OF INTEREST OPEN
This program is designed for 14-16 year old students (in Year 9 or 10 in 2014) to experience a true “exchange” with a family in New Zealand. Local students are matched with a New Zealand student and will travel to New Zealand and attend school there during Term 2, 2014. Both students then return to Australia and attend school here for Term 3, 2014.
The student’s family hosts the NZ student and includes them in their normal family life.
This is an exciting way to experience another culture with the support of Rotary.
More information and expression of interest forms can be found at ww.ranzse.org
Expressions of interest close 30 June 2013
